I know who Brzezinski is, and I too am a little worried about his hawkish attitudes. But remember 1.he opposed the war against Iraq and 2.he is only one of Obama's defence advisors and is by no means guaranteed to be Sec of State or Defense: I don't think he is "behind" Obama in the sense which you imply. At the same time, I think it's crucial that, faced with McCain, Obama shows that he isn't weak on defence if he is to win, and having Brzezinski on the team is no doubt part of that strategy.
Thanks for the compliments. Obama has gone "centre" and "hawkish" in order to win over undecided electors and counter McCain's claim to be strongest on national security. Many of us could wish for more radical than Obama, but I don't think American society is ready for someone more radical. But I still think there is a wide gulf between McCain and Obama. If you think they're just the same, then don't vote.
OK, but now the realistic choice is not between Obama and McKinney, Kucinich, or Paul. It's between Obama and McCain. If you prefer McCain, vote for McCain, unless you want to make a pure protest, in which case vote for Paul (though I never would) or Nader. But don't forget what happened last time a lot of people voted for Nader.
waken up,first your a brit, yanks couldnt care less! second most brits were killed by yank "friendly fire"!third he is black,no i'm not rascist! if he gets through the door,i'll give it 3 months and he will be assasinated. hey did you get that old fahioned scratchy sound? you should have made it in black and white and wore an old 1940s suit,oh and maybe smoked a pipe! fourth, you really do go on to much, your view means nothing at all.
i agree with you this guy is a tool! he calls you an idiot! his head is so far up his arse,i'm amazed he can breath, and yes he sounds like an old scratchy record, going on and on and on.....
From what I've seen of him, Obama seems to have modelled himself almost entirely on Tony Blair, from his mannerisms right down to the empty soundbites. Between him and McCain, the US is going to be screwed.
I've observed Tony Blair since the early nineties and I disagree. In terms of political economy they may be on the same wavelength, but I think that Obama has far more substance to him i.e. he isn't willing to throw ALL his convictions overboard. But we'll see who's right (if, that is, Obama wins).
I don't think it's justified, on the evidence, to call Rev Wright a racist, even if he has made some foolish comments. We all have older relatives or mentors who become embarrassing with old age, and it's the same only worse for Obama, since he has the spotlight on him. We should show a little indulgence.
Obama has clearly rejected Wright's more extreme comments, and it's nothing more than the tactics of desperation to suggest that he has any sympathy for such views. Oven chips McCain has zero charisma or ability to enthuse the young - his rallies attract about 20 people - and nothing to offer other than "more of the same" and a fine mess that is, whether you look at the economy or foreign policy! My faith in the American people is a little shaky, but I think this time they'll have more sense.
All of the candidates have a few embarrassing acquaintances. The fact of making such a big deal of them only proves that the person doing so is worried that their champion cannot triumph on the issues. Let's talk about those rather than distractions.
To be honest i do not know much about politics except that it comes from the greek word for "city". I do like what you said about american politics in the sense that it effects the rest of the world, and i am sure this guy you mention is the right guy that should become a president one day.
Haha that was just a happy coincidence! On the main point, there have been great political leaders who have acted in the public interest in the past: Lincoln, Gandhi, Roosevelt, Churchill and many others. I understand people's scepticism given the recent dearth of great political leaders, but I see no reason in principle why there should not be others. I used the word "promising" intentionally, as we can never be 100% certain of how this or that person will fare under the pressure of office.
You're right, I made a crude generalization when what I might, or should, have said is that I have misgivings and suspicions specific to Obama, and am deeply pessimistic about contemporary US politics generally.
Thank you for your kind comments and your video offering. I agree with you completely about Barack Obama and our hope in him. The bad thing is that no matter what he wants to do, he will still have to go through our corrupt Congress which will stop him from achieving all he wants to do. However, I think he will stop the war, restore our standing in the world, will unite us as a country and will try his hardest to make this country a better place. Thank you again and God bless Great Britain!

Did you purposely put on your New York City sweatshirt because you were planning to blog on US politics, or was that just a happy coincidence? =)
I suppose an Obama presidency would be the most interesting, but I don't trust him any more than any other politician.
