another reason for haitis being poor is language and education. 95 percent of haitian people are black,while about 5 percent are mosty mulattos. most black haitians speak french creole(mix of african/french tongue) mulattos speak french which is the official language of haiti. Being able to speak the official language can open up doors to a better education.

If you want to see two countries that are predominantly African and buck the trend toward failure, then look at Botswana and Barbados. Both have relatively small populations. Botswana has a substantial percentage of the world's diamonds. Barbados is driven by tourism and is not impacted by hurricanes as much as other Caribbean nations. It should surprise nobody that foreign aid works no better than the American welfare system when it comes to making blacks independent. It is due to the failure of the Haiti goverment that the country is such a mass. They only finished paying that in 1922. The US occupied them for 19 years and then put the Haitian Guard for the next few decades. They financed, militarised and supported the Duvaliers (father and son), the most vile dictators. Learn some history. Haitian officials now work for US except for Aristide (ousted).

I made my comment that colonialism ended in1804 to indicate that the Haitian goverment is to blame for a lot of the country's missery. Practically the country is still in the former colonial state: a very rich small community with a huge percentage of the population living in misery. I do not agree with the debt had to pay to France, but I'm tired of people blaming colonialisme for the countries current miserry.
