  • It has gone? Has he replaced it?

  • @richardfeeling

Yes with an M18 Hellcat very fast on the Belgiun hiways

  • i remember this one well , i was driving it . at welland steam fair upton on severn

we used to do 3 cars over the weekend show great fun they didnt stand a chance with 30 tons

The engine we put in was a cummins tubro diesel with 600 hp through an auto box driving original sherman gearbox , tank was owned by mike phelps sadly now sold i do miss the old girl had great fun with it over the few years we restored and ran it here and belguim

  • Solid engine or not. A shot from that 90 mm would have sent that piece crap flying back to Deutchland.

  • solid engine? you bet! (your #s!) (besides probably a rather light tank! i dont think 70 tons nearly!?) (i still hold this "german" product from that specific "brand" the best for buck from that era! modern wagens pretty much suck not only to benzes...)

furthermore i think regarding all the circumstances shermany was pretty close to "winning" a world war for the first time ;) (especially that type xxi, allied convoys? nope, none after "feierabend" ;)

  • Most people who are not tank fans would call this a tank. Only the U.S. ground forcescommandered by General Lesley James McNair believed in the "tank destroyer doctrine" MAcNair was an artillary man with no Armored experience. The tank destroyers were crewed by units detaile to the artillary. The open top justified the fiction that these were not tanks. A tank is a Tank no matter. Any child would see this and know it was a tank. The open top and weak armor were a result of a faulty concept.

  • snyp0r65 ...Germans weren't that araid of this tank because most of them didn't even know about it of this tank...Also it didn't have any impact on the war...

Well actually the German Army was afraid of the M36 because its 90mm gun could knock out or destroy German Panther and Tiger tank tanks, bunkers, pillboxes, etc

It was first used around July 1944 and it help boosted the morale of US troops and they were better able to take on the German army and defeat them in battle

  • These tanks were used during the war in ex Yugoslavia (1991-1995)

  • The M-36 shows that it would have been possible to mount the 90mm on a Sherman Chassis earlier if there had been the will to do so.The politics and indecision in the US command structure allowed Army Ground Forces to stall modifications to the Sherman suggested by Ordnance and armored force. Later the decision to go with the M-26 also slowed down any upgrades to the Sherman.

  • @scottduncan44 There were, in fact, some Sherman's modified with the M36 turret (M36B), which totally proves your point. A modified, enclosed turret could have been manufactured for the Sherman. The British also proved this, by arming Shermans with the 17 pounder. With the speed and reliability of the Sherman, having a 90mm gun would have made a huge difference!

  • the m-36 was considered a boot and scoot. hit the target and run . my uncle said he didn't think any tank we had could take out a tiger. until he saw one peeled open by a jackson.

  • Fab Video

  • A concealed well aimed German mortar or cocktail can hit the open top to kill the crew, at lease flush them out with panic. I was confused with the up-gunned US tank destroyer from 3 inch gun M10 to 90mm gun M36 without much incease of weigh, the M10: 29.6 ton; the M36: 29ton!? The German JagdPz IV with L/48 Pak40 gun : 24 ton increased to 25.8 ton after up-guned to L/70 Pak 42, keeping 75mm calibare.

  • Ok, it's high velocity gun gave it some impressive firepower, but it still had less armor and was very vulnerable against all german tank guns so it had to be very carefully. Germans weren't that araid of this tank because most of them didn't even know about it. The M36 was very unknown because only a very few were built too late in the war. Also it didn't have any impact on the war, the outcome of the war has already been changed long time before this tank reached the battleftront.

  • this tank could destroy any german afv through'n at them

  • Yeah - the Germans were afraid of this model - very much so...

  • M36 was introduced in 1943, and had an impact on the war. Performed quite nicely against german armor.

  • Actually this was a SPH. In the Yugoslav army there was a model named S-36, it's the exact same kind of vehicle, but it had a different engine (T-55 tank engine), and it was used until the Yugoslav wars...

And, yes... It had a 90mm gun!

  • the M36 comes very Late, so he cant be the best tank destroyer. JAGDPANTHER was awesome, but the best Tank in WW2 was the PzKw5 Panther

  • The best tank destroyer was the JAGDPANTHER with his 88mm gun.

  • argueably yes, although not very relible

  • @UBIQUEROL BS! The Jagdpanther was one of the most relible tank destroyed of WW2 duh!

  • @panzerchris88 @panzerchris88 Erm, well the JAGDPANTHER was certainly . . . heavier than the M36.

  • Best tank destroyer of ww2.
