  • Do u still presently lecture at Hull university?

I am thinking about universities to go to, and u sound like a great teacher. Thanks for the vids aswell :) great help.

  • Yes, I am a lecturer in Digital Design at the University of Hull's Scarborough campus, and we offer an excellent range of Digital Media degree programmes. 'Design for Digital Media' and 'Digital Arts' focus on the creative side of digital design with a good foundation in technology. 'Web Design and Development' concentrates on sophisticated web theory, technique and practice along with some design instruction.

  • All of the Digital Media degrees are described in detail on the Hull University website, and my e-mail address is at the end of the Maya videos. Contact me if you have any questions.

  • Fantastic tutorial! Straight and to the point! The other video tutorial taught me this in 10 minutes.

  • thank you so much!!! im subsribin!

  • Oh thank you so much, although this is very similar to Blender 3D but it's UI is so simple!

  • well done .thanks

  • You're a great teacher. You put things in such simple terms which makes it so much easier than a manual. If I could be guaranteed that I would get a lecturer like you at Uni, I would definitely spend a few years studying animation etc.

  • THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! I cant wait to get started I have been looking for this for a LONG TIME! YOU ARE THE MAN!

  • you rock!!! I love your idea!

  • many thanks, I was really lost and had no experience with Maya or any other 3d software. your videos are a big help and I appreciate what you have done to help us newbies.

    thanks again.

  • I think it's excellent. It gives you a place to start and encourages you to tackle the immensity of the Maya programme

  • THANKS!!!

  • Hello, wondered if you could help. You know when you hover the mouse over a tool icon. It tells you what it does. Well now for some reason when i hold the mouse over the tool icon, nothing. Now i dont know what tool is what. I was not aware that I had turned it off, was wondering if i did it by mistake with the keyboard.

    Hope you can help.

  • are there a lot of features present in 8.5 that older versions dont have?

  • The manufacturers are always adding new features, especially in the rendering area. Also it is sometimes difficult to open older files in new versions of the software.

  • Wow, is this for real? Free tutorials by a Maya Guru online? Just like to say a big thank you for your original and easy to follow system of teaching. I have no experiance with 3d graphics or the software to create said objects. But as a complete novice, I will follow these lessons and rate each one as I go.

lesson 1. Good intro. Well laid out and wets your appetite for the main course. Music a bit too thrash rock for my taste but, what the hell.

  • umm so when i goto create-> polygon it makes a polygon i am not able to drag one

  • Make sure that you haven't already set numerical values for your polygon in the menu sets on the right hand side of the screen.

  • Ah man many thanks for this. My brother and I are just starting to get into Maya and we'd probably be lost without this. When I first looked at all the buttons and tools, I felt completely overwhelmed. Are you gonna make an advanced tutorial as well?

  • The point of this site is to get you started in Maya- where you take it from here is up to you. Maya is great but it is only a tool. What's really important is what you choose to do with the software, and how you choose to express your ideas. That's what the new lectures are all about.

  • is amazing tanks a lot!

  • thanks for the help!

    i just started using maya

  • Many Thanks, i cant wait to start..

  • hi,i have the demo version of maya 8.5 and i want to know what to do to get all my original toolbars back if i have mistakenly erased them, basicaly i want to reset everything and the delete button dosent work

  • I had that same problem but I figured it out just now. Go to the top menu bar that should be the only one still there and go to display which is just right of create. Go down until you see UI elements, click on it and go down to "Show all UI elements" and there you go. You can also edit which menues you want displayed with the top group of UI's like help or command line. But for the sake of the tutorials so far (That I know of) just keep them all on. I hope it helps!! =)

  • it does that because its a non commerical free version and its to stop you selling your work, you also cant use the work youve done in the learning edition to swap it over to a normal maya.

So unless you PAY for the coomercial version there is no way to get rid of it.

  • I need help please, When ever i go on smooth mode i always get "Maya personal learning edition" as faded writing. And it gets very annoying when i realise i may be the only person with that problem... Please, do you know what's happening?

  • Maya's Personal Learning Edition is watermarked as you have noticed. If you purchase and install an official version of the software there is no watermark.

  • This is the kind of direction I need with this seemingly insanely-complex program. Many thanks!
