That is possibly one of the most touching videos I've watched on youtube, and I don't think that was its intention! Bravo, Elmify. The process of watching your whole back catalogue of videos has begun...
So I was driving today, and at one point found myself mumbling "loneliness is like a polyester sweater, da da DA DA da da da da, and I wear it we-ell, I wear it we-ell"
*does a kermit the frog arm flail / john green giant squid of anger portrayal*
Ah! Jealous! I wanted to go see How to Succeed in Business, but it opened like 3 days after we left! And I live on the West Coast, so no hope of going there anytime soon :/
your lonliness song is like a cross between an early nineties 'they might be giants" song and a shakespearean sonnet. i think i just heard the awesome scale snap.
You are so wonderful. I am a New Yorker, and I weirdly find myself agreeing with everything you say about New York. It's weird because we all have our own ideas about it, but you are really smart.
not related to this video specifically, but just wanted to say that your basically my idol, I love your videos, and I MISS YOU! your videos make me happy and I wish I knew you in real life. I feel like we'd be great friends. :)
i love love love when you make videos about the city. the flow of your voice that streams together your poetic words is so inspiring and can lift my heart to new heights, really quite magnificent. <3
I really like coming to your page. :) its so nice to read all the nice and thoughtful comments. There are rarely trolls, which is unusual for someone as popular as you.
This made me think of a Thoughts From Places video from the Vlogbrothers. I've seen you on a TruthorFail video (thus meaning you must be a nerdfighter :) so I know you'll actually understand how much of a compliment that is. DFTBA
I don't know why but the following sentence reminded me of the voice over in 'American Psycho':
We went to see 'How to Succeed in Business' that eventing on Broadway and it was higly enjoyable. Fighting our way back through Times Square after the show I can't say I had any particularly deep or profound thoughts...
I love your videos :) I went back and watched all of your videos in order and now that I'm caught I'm sad cause now I'll have to wait for your updates -3
i need to be rowed back by a friend - this guy i like confused me and our conversation was basically: him: "how was it?" (reference to the "piggyback wars" we have at lunch) me "fine ... how was ur day?" him: "i meant the piggy back wars! i dont give a sh*t about your day."
I'm glad you got some awesome friend time; truly, it's what has always made me feel better as my routine of school-homework-boyfriend falls apart. Thanks for always being so awesome :D
As of late, thinking about New York has made me pretty sad. My college just outside of NYC ended up offering me the bare minimum of financial aid so I can't attend school there. Watching your videos about the city reminds me that I can still get there, no matter what. Thank you for that.
I'm travelling to New York early next year and this video is making me very excited! I'm from Australia and I've never been out of the country so I'm exceptionally excited...maybe too excited seeing as it's still 6 months away but yeah...anyway the point of this comment was, are there any places you suggest I go? Any resteraunts you suggest I eat at? etc. :)
I too was dumped at the end of my school year. Also, I was brought back from my depths of sorrow by my close friends. Without them I really dont know if I would be moving out of my bedroom, let alone getting a new job or going to the gym etc etc. It's really weird how these things happen. And when they are happening you cant imagine anyone else going through them as well, while in reality they are happening all the time.
Loved it. Especially how you were honest about how nothing deep or profound was going through your head, but in the end you still managed to make a really good point about life and friendship. awesome! :)
What's awesome about this video is that I quite literally am going to do the same thing next weekend. Visiting a good friend in NYC. Going to see How to Succeed. Likely getting up to mischief. Hopefully this is an indicator that my trip will be as stellar as yours :]
I always love your videos, and this was no exception. I was just in NYC myself recently, although I saw Catch Me If You Can instead of How to Succeed. I gotta say that I'm a bit jealous that you got to see Dan Radcliffe in action - how was he? Oh, and P.S. I would definitely buy your "Polyester Sweater" song off iTunes.
MEN, can't live with um' and can't live with um' - Yes, I know what I said. Where most break-ups would stunt a writers ability, you've only become better for it. I've only been to NY a few times but I completley understand it's pull. Please keep these videos coming. I so look forward to them.
my heart uses the same amount of blood to love this video as it does for the vlogbrothers' thought from places videos. I discovered you yesterday during a boredom spasm and I will admit, its almost shameful knowing that I've wasted time on youtube watching people talking nonsense and doing tireless stupid stuff instead of watching your pretty face make videos like these.
Ah I cant believe you got to see how to suceed in business lucky duck!. when I was there on a school trip we were riding a bus and we passed a huge crowd of people outside of the theater they all had cameras and papers turns out they were waiting for daniel radcliff to walk out we begged the bus driver to stop for just a second but barely missed him :( one of these days
