what the question is is maturity! you can say that the movement away from dictatorship was giving more responsibility to people and these ideals will give even more responsibility to the individual. This will have to be transitioned well because unfortunately this psuedo democracy is probably the center of gravity of the population and demanding more maturity could be choas if not handled well at first.

so hes saying that we should eliminate public education. Well not everyone can pay for education for their kids. What about the large percentage of working class poor who earns minimum wage with kids? How can they afford to pay for their kids education along with other expenses like rent, food, and healthcare(since this guy wants to eliminate medicare also). Is he saying that the kids of poorer parents do not deserve education(the chance of social mobility) because their parents cannot afford it?
@ironmantis24 I don't understand what you are saying. Are you saying that if your parents can't pay for your college, then you can't go to college? I may be wrong, but it seems your parents are able to pay for your college education. The reason I say that is because if they didn't, then you would know about student loans that people take to pay for college. People who's parents can't afford to pay for their college still attend college. So if I understand what you are saying, you are incorrect.
public education is in the crapper. i hear about teachers that raise their students grades so that they don't get funding spent or have their jobs in trouble which just encourages lazy education and intellectual growth in students. yet people say we need to spend more because good education is not available for many people. yet public spending is a big part of this. its a vicious cycle. the true cure is students taking responsibility for their studies and teachers for their teaching
@biglu30 what do you think about public higher education? Ron Paul mentions that he thinks the federal government should stay out of education. I personally think our higher education system fairs pretty well; we have state and local institutions competing with private ones. There are some pretty reputable state and local public universities. I also believe that public schools are ok, but should be decentralized and like Paul says the federal govt. should stay out.
@RocknCorruptrepublic well for one universities have a greater degree of freedom in choices and curriculum than high schools.
i would say that i agree with you on the public schools though. i have no problem with government, its just when it gets as huge and as powerful as our federal government is. i really think we should see more charter options though.
@biglu30 yeah we should see more charter options. Yeah, true about universities. Well, they have more freedom b/c the federal govt. is less involved :P
@RocknCorruptrepublic yeah and the whole goal of college vs high schools are different. in high school the fed is making sure that students "succeed" and pass even when they put virtually no effort into it. in college, if you don't do the work then no one is going to care. there is a much greater level of responsibility.
yesterday when i was in college, my teacher was talking about the the ultimate objectives of college vs. k-12. it shocked the hell out of me... k-12's objective was to socialize students into the "culture" and to make them obedient of the laws and the government. EXACT WORDS! i was shocked, i thought that schools exist to teach people about sciences and facts only
PLEASE run in 2012! You are my hero. You are what this country needs!! Please brings this country back to their senses! I voted for you from the very beginning and I wish you were the candidate I want to win in the first place. THIS COUNTRY NEEDS YOU!!
Funny how republicans criticize a democratic president for addressing school children, but dont make a stink when republican presidents do (Regan and Bush).
Seems to me that Ron Paul must think that the American government is more incompetent that other governments. Most european nations have public school systems that are run by the government (same in Canada where I live) and all have better education than in America. Why is that?
