Hi rockboy. Yes, you can see the tape cartridge under the metal cover. You can easily change the cartridge if it breaks or finally wears out.

There is no effects loop. We are running the Strat into the Clyde wah, then into the OCD overdrive, then into the TTE, then into the mid-60's Fender Princeton amp.

Yes, we were using a Fender Princeton, which is a tube amp.

The fact is, the Fulltone OCD and Tube Tape Echo make ANY amp sound a whole lot better than it would have otherwise. ;-)

You wouldn't need a pedal board with the TTE It's got onboard gain! Add a tuner and you're good to go! I perform with the Fulltone OCD and Distortion Pro regularly and could see getting my board down to:

Tele>Boss TU-2 Tuner>TTE>Fat Boost(for leads)>amp. I could even perform with just a tuner and TTE and be done with it!

O.K., for those early Clapton/Hendrix sounds, maybe add my Vox 847a Wah.
