  • @ObiWahnKnobi thats why he looked over to blokey and had a little laugh :P its all good though :)

  • Recorded in Finland 1976

  • Ronnie Drew reckoned only Luke could sing this properly.

  • Awesome. For some reason, the new imitators don't have that edge, that raw electricity. Irreplaceable!

  • Hell yeah! I want to listen to this while I jump rope in the morning. Practice some hearty jigs.

  • Where's the Love button

  • they don't have gray hairs

    when was this? 1865? xD

  • Best thing about this version, if you listen closely, Luke sings the second verse twice without even realizing it. It's unbelievable how good this guy is that he can sing this song so well and even add an extra verse to it.

  • @Krios61

No he realized it lol they all looked at each other like "oh shit"

  • @streetgangtm I know. I love the look, but he's like fuck, and they just smile about it. They sing the song better than any other.

  • Thumbs Up for all of us who knew the song before this Sherlock Holmes

  • Wow, they are great!

  • the man

  • class

  • sweeeeet

  • Four people never got to Dublin.....

  • This dude breathes like a goddamn whale

  • @bbdskateboardingfan if you've never tried to sing that song at the tempo he is, you'd be breathing like that, too, it's fucking hard, and part of it is he doesn't breathe enough, but he's still a phenomenal performer nonetheless.

  • Luke's survey of the others' faces when he's accidentally repeated the 2nd verse is priceless.

  • I love it such a great song

    Greetings from Macedonia

  • Do they say June or May

  • the rare ould times luv it

  • Ryan's Fancy does a wonderful version of this song

  • liam clancy is the only man who come close to lukes version

  • el pibe valderrama con chivita!!!

  • How did he do that?

  • I somehow find this version better than the one by The Chieftans and The Rolling Stones...!! Though i heard that one first.!! Who was the original artist who sang/composed this song..!! Youtube has soo many artists singing this song..

  • @PhantomVedvrat It's an old traditional Irish song well over a 150 + years old.

  • @PhantomVedvrat These are the original artists! Luke Kelly and the Dubliners. Thats why its the best. no one sings this song like luke. You prob saw sherlock holmes and now heard it for the first time.

  • @pinstripes74 You are right! Second time I listen this song. I like it very much!

  • @PhantomVedvrat The Dubliners were the first to make it famous internationally, but the song goes back maybe 2 centuries.

  • Listen to LUKE AROUND 2:09

  • @macarain1

    Wtf is thatt??

  • @macarain1 i don't get it...what'd he do that's got you so amazed?

  • @TheLordOden Wrong song and wrong time lol...

  • Damn it! i read on wikipedia he passed away. why the hell all good singer i like have to die prematurely.

  • I will remember this tune till the day i die !!!

  • Screw American folk singers Irish folk singers like Kelly are awesome

  • LMAO bono...

  • Love how he says the same verse twice and they look at each other and he's just like

"DAMN IT!! I CAN'T BELIEVE I DID THAT AGAIN!!!" hahaha then they're like "Whatever, just keep singing...."

  • I am obsessed with this song I love it so much.I think this is slip jig. Not sure though.

  • @924Lolo Yeah, its a slip jig. I dont know the difference between a slip jig and a regular jig, but its a slip jig.

  • BRODUIL AS GAEILGE!!!!

  • there used to be a band called 'the seven kevens' who did the best version of this song.. anyone remember them?

  • Thumbs up if you knew this song before the Sherlock Holmes film! xD (no, don't, I don't want to have a top comment! xD)

  • @tonyborbony First time I heard this song was back in the early '70s when I was a child. Always loved it, but to this day, can't seem to keep the words straight when I try to sing it. LOL

  • @splarnacus Hahah, the only part I can sing along is the chorus. And that took a few tries! I've set a new goal for myself as a non native speaker; I can't speak English properly until I can sing along to this song (with or without lyrics)

  • @tonyborbony LOL. That is a lofty goal, I wish you success

  • @tonyborbony if ur irish and didnt know this song before sherlock holmes ya shud be shot haha ;)

  • @dominatingbudgies123 HAHA, Agreed.

  • Just ........amazing, I am listening to this song for one month every morning when heading to work...Imagine I am currently trying to learn English...I played this video to all my colleagues, this man is simply amazing......Hi to all Irish, love Ireland,.......from Algeria

  • This song is sooooo gooooood !!!!!!!!:)(:

  • this is a badass song

  • ill take the risk of being called an idiot and ask where ronnie drew is? in the record version you can hear him sing backup during the chorus

  • @matte218 Ronnie left the group in 1973 to go solo but returned in 1979. This recording is from 1976 and the record version is an earlier one

  • just another bit of Irish culture that i find completely fascinating -

I'm not Irish myself, i'm Assyrian, but i've come to enjoy some of the more mainstream, Irish exports such as Dylan Moran, James Joyce and well, now some of their folk music.

  • Luke Kelly the best singer/performer to ever come out of Ireland

  • best ever to come outta this world

  • @pluckdaduck me 5

  • @pluckdaduck Bono also came from ireland but your right luke is better

  • he accidentally sings one verse twice and they all look at each other after they notice. i found that when i was stoned by the way

  • so did i ha ha

  • @yeahdude77 he doesnt do it accidentally he does becauseof the brain tumar he had and didnt know about which killed him in the end.

R.I.P Luke Kelly greatest musican that ever lived

  • @owenj678 I think its a bit of a strech to blame him repeating one verse on his brain tumour, which im not even certain he would have had at this point.

  • @yeahdude77 He was dying when this was filmed. That's why he sang it twice. He had a brain tumour.

  • @bredaahern Or perhaps hi just slipped out...
