While I agree that Pit bulls are a wonderful breed, the owner of this dog (and any dog) should still pay attention to the stress signs the dog is giving. Shaking (while not wet), licking the lips, ears down, looking away, are all indications that the dog is not 100% comfortable with what's going on. It's uneasy. ANY DOG of ANY BREED, really shouldn't be allowed that close to a baby, especially when showing signs of anxiety or insecurity, as this dog is doing.

A pit will most likely do more damage if it bites someone but someone is more likely to be bitten by some other breed is my point. Just because they can do more damage does not make them the most dangerous breed. I can't remember where i saw the statistics but chows bite more with more damage.

i have had a baby pitbull and got her at 4weeks(about) and she never bit unless she was teething , but she was nice and acted like all dogs, she was calm , since we live in kind of a city town, we cant walk her............ she acts like a cat kind of because she would claw atthe couch like a cat, (she grew up around 3 cats)

For a pit bull to turn on humans takes either really bad breeding (done by irresponsible and greedy breeders) or terribly poor ownership. I have never met a breed that loves children so much. My Staffordshire loves roughousing with me, but when my four and two year old nieces come over he is so careful and gentle around them, and while he usually is running all over the place, he will sit still and allow them to put hats and necklaces on him while playing dressup.

And even well brought up pitbulls have been known to just "snap" for lack of a better word. It's just back to what they we re originally bred for. Just like shepherds herd things. It's just what they are. Though you can train away a lot of what they are there is still no way to know that they wont go back to their basic instincts.

@arianne149 I know from personal experience. Two people I know have been either horribly maimed or killed by pitbulls. One was a 2 year old toddler that was killed by a pitbull that the owners had for years and "They never thought anything like that would ever happen". The other was a friend my age who got one as a puppy. When it was almost 2 it attacked him and he had to get skin graphs on his face, neck and chest from where the dog bit him. Pitbulls give pitbulls a bad name.
Most of the time, it is the way the owner treats the dog that causes the dog to do bad things. Just look at the Michael Vick dogs and follow up on them. The majority of them have been placed with families that have children.

He's one of the sweetest dogs we've ever had, and I'm pretty sure he was raised to be a fighter (we adopted him). He's great with my cousins and sleeps in bed with my mom every night. He channels all his energy into begging.
Pits are very loyal and they doesn't attack kids they are like a nanny my 5 year old brother is a cruel little shit and he takes on my dogs earns and he makes my dog cry ='(but the dog just goes from him into my room and i just go out and smack my shit brother in the face >=)

In various dog training vids I watch here, whenever someone is talking about how they 'behaviour modified' their aggressive dog, it is without exception, a Pitbull which has been allowed to make its own rules until the point comes when it's almost beyond redemption: a result of no handler skills.

Not all breeds stay to their intended purpose over time. Mastiffs were originally bred as dogs of war, as in specifically to kill enemy soldiers in ancient roman times. Dogs, just like people, have certain prejustices associated with them. While yes, there are some pitbulls (just like there are some beagles, other terriers, and labs) who are unproperally bred and treated that will attack, most pitbulls are gentle and just have nasty reputations.
Do your research before you open your ignorant mouth. I would much rather have a pit bull terrier around my kids than any other breed. The american pit bull terrier has been scored as the #1 dog with the most patient temperament and they are an extremely smart breed. It's thanks to people like you, and the idiots who raise these sweet dogs to fight, and improper breeding is the reason these dogs have the rep they do!
A dog's mouth is far cleaner than a human's in most cases. They have enzymes in their mouth that humans don't have hence why they don't get illnesses like humans.
This isn't a question about pitbulls in specific but about dogs in general, is it safe for a baby to be licked by a dog? (again not in case it gets bitten, but maybe it's not safe because of the germs, etc found in a dog's mouth?)

A pit will most likely do more damage if it bites someone but someone is more likely to be bitten by some other breed is my point. Just because they can do more damage does not make them the most dangerous breed. I can't remember where i saw the statistics but chows bite more with more damage.

For the people that r saying pitbulls r more likely to snap then other dogs, guess what ur wrong. The # 1 dog to bite someone is a lab. There r way more dog bites from other breeds. Pits do more damage so everyone thinks that they r so... Bad. I have never been bitten by a pit but have been by yorkies more then once. I guess since they r small they don't count.

i have had a baby pitbull and got her at 4weeks(about) and she never bit unless she was teething , but she was nice and acted like all dogs, she was calm , since we live in kind of a city town, we cant walk her............ she acts like a cat kind of because she would claw atthe couch like a cat, (she grew up around 3 cats)

For a pit bull to turn on humans takes either really bad breeding (done by irresponsible and greedy breeders) or terribly poor ownership. I have never met a breed that loves children so much. My Staffordshire loves roughousing with me, but when my four and two year old nieces come over he is so careful and gentle around them, and while he usually is running all over the place, he will sit still and allow them to put hats and necklaces on him while playing dressup.
Great dogs, bad publicity.

And even well brought up pitbulls have been known to just "snap" for lack of a better word. It's just back to what they we re originally bred for. Just like shepherds herd things. It's just what they are. Though you can train away a lot of what they are there is still no way to know that they wont go back to their basic instincts.

@arianne149 I know from personal experience. Two people I know have been either horribly maimed or killed by pitbulls. One was a 2 year old toddler that was killed by a pitbull that the owners had for years and "They never thought anything like that would ever happen". The other was a friend my age who got one as a puppy. When it was almost 2 it attacked him and he had to get skin graphs on his face, neck and chest from where the dog bit him. Pitbulls give pitbulls a bad name.

Most of the time, it is the way the owner treats the dog that causes the dog to do bad things. Just look at the Michael Vick dogs and follow up on them. The majority of them have been placed with families that have children.

He's one of the sweetest dogs we've ever had, and I'm pretty sure he was raised to be a fighter (we adopted him). He's great with my cousins and sleeps in bed with my mom every night. He channels all his energy into begging.

In various dog training vids I watch here, whenever someone is talking about how they 'behaviour modified' their aggressive dog, it is without exception, a Pitbull which has been allowed to make its own rules until the point comes when it's almost beyond redemption: a result of no handler skills.

That's a lot of dogs to die at the hands of a couple people's bad decisions. A better solution is to educate NOW about not only pit bulls but how to actually raise and handle a dog. People are only starting to get a grip on how much goes into having a dog, and training a dog. There is no "bad dog", only bad owners.

Not all breeds stay to their intended purpose over time. Mastiffs were originally bred as dogs of war, as in specifically to kill enemy soldiers in ancient roman times. There now one of the mellowest breeds around.

Dogs, just like people, have certain prejustices associated with them. While yes, there are some pitbulls (just like there are some beagles, other terriers, and labs) who are unproperally bred and treated that will attack, most pitbulls are gentle and just have nasty reputations.
