I came across this " Homesteading" series looking for " how to grow blueberries" Homesteading in my opinion is the most rewarding way to live.Really and truly enjoy the fruits of your labor.Home schooling is the best. Your children are so happy, joyfull and are very healthy looking. As for Lucy, she knows what she's supposed to do, she just looks confused as to when to do what. You can't just keep calling the dogs name without a command to follow.Border collies are meant to herd sheep & cattle.
@rislam10 There are schools nearby but we choose to homeschool them. We appreciate the family intimacy homeschooling helps to maintain and the freedom to explore and dig deeper intellectually that schooling outside of an institution provides. Also it is very important to us that our children have the time and opportunity to develop very strong life skills, i.e. homesteading and natural living skills and knowledge. Plus homeschooling is fun! Thank you for your question. Leslie
Ok wow, this looks fun, I'm going to watch the whole thing :)
I think homesteading would be hard but to rewarding...two questions from this first part...one, how does the cow know exactly where to go?? I find that very cool...I mean I know animals can learn habits but it's just neat to see the cow listen to you and just walk right over to where she gets milked :)
And two, are the kids home schooled or do they go to public school, which is the traditional way when living on a homestead?
Thank you for your comment. Cows are fairly routine orientated and are mostly cooperative. They are also highly motivated by food which awaits them in the milking barn.
America is very lush in most areas with good soil and lots of water so it is a good place to homestead. The problem now is that the system is no conducive to homesteading. Also our training and habits make it hard to adjust to eating what is available locally and seasonally But with rising fuel prices and other factors being inevitable I think homesteading will become completely necessary. This will create community support making living 100% of the land easier.
Thank you for your comment and it is good to hear you are about to homestead yourself. Our Homestead produces anywhere from 10% to 25% of our food and we are currently not really making income off of it. Eventually we want to work completely from home for various reasons including that homesteading and the corporate world are disharmonious.
OH MY GOSH I MISS YOU GUYS!!!!what are you singing?...it sounds pretty...I MISS YOU GUYS SOOO MUCH!!!:)...*sigh* how are you guys?...*sigh*anyways...I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!

Love your videos. I have a question. Where is this place and why do the kids have to be homeschooled. Isn't there a school nearby? Thanks.

Your Border Collie would love to go gather your cows for you. You can tell she is dying to do it. With a little training she could.

Our 4 younger kids are home schooled.

The song is from the movie "Babe". It's fun to find good songs to sing while milking so if you have any ideas...
