The real way the "Fair"Tax works is to increase the effective taxes of the middleclasses and lower the effective taxes of the wealthy. This is very clear in their own research at tiny url 593htl, page 30 on ( pay particular notice to Table 13, years 7-8 and 15-16 to see how they fudge it), and they state clearly that those who make from $15k to $150k a year "would lose because the FairTax would impose a relatively higher tax rate on them." Go read their own research. This tax is a very bad idea.
@Piscivorus No corporate taxes! Watch what happens to the economy when those go away. Call me cynical but most likely corporate savings will wind up in offshore banks while employees get the same wages, base prices stay the same & the "fair" tax makes the overall price higher. Now you're paying 30% on the most expensive new goods (cars & homes). Watch the US auto industry crumble. To top it off you STILL have to pay local taxes (income, property, state sales taxes etc) Yeah, that a real winner.
Congressman Linder hits the nail dead on & drives it home. Yet our president wants to create a new "jobs" bill. NO need! HR 25 / S 296 is that bill. The Fair Tax. Call your reps & demand it.
I'm a big supporter of the FairTax. It'll eliminate enough wasted overhead costs of the current system to provide like $1800 for evey person in the country, counting compliaince anf filing costs. The poor would still pay zero in taxes, without even having to wait in lines. The tax burden would be spread wider, because illegals and crimanal would finally be contributing.
