this one of the few tones I have heard and said... this is it, it's perfect.. I haven't said: it's nice, it's useful, it's gritty, it's fat, it's warm, it's chimey... no it's just perfect..
i agree. i've done quite a few amp demos and this is one that ranks way up there, both for accuracy based on what it sounded like in the room, and exactly what i'd want that amp to do sonically! danny is a great player as well and was the perfect candidate to showcase those tones.
if you have a "warm & fat" sounding amp like the Two Rock, I strongly suggest to match it with a hardwood cab, not plywood or similar. Sound will change dramatically. Thanks.
Damn. I keep coming back to this video. The tone is *exactly* what I want in an amp. I have a Two-Rock and I wonder if I can get it to dial in like this. Mine is more liquidy. I would describe this as "chimey" if that makes sense.
i can relate--this is the exact tone i want from an amp going after chimey blackfaced cleans and footswitching in to that tough texas SRV grunt while retaining the spank from the clean side.
remember two rock used to load these bad boys from the factory with NOS glass to seal the deal. major factor.
@TheRealRayJ I'm using a two-rock classic type 3 with a suhr badger 1x12 cabinet with a celestion alnico gold 12" @ 8 OHMS. It will produce the liguidy as well as great chime. I'm playing a Cp Thornton Fusion with Lollar pups. s/s/h set-up.
no two rock is worth the price unless you just have the cash sitting around burning a hole in your pocket, if you do buy one - i would- . you can get the fender supersonic and get the same if not some better gain out of it and save thousands.
Is there any amp that sounds as good as a two rock that is affordable? please dont say any fenders because i have played alot of them and they dont. I looked at the two rock site and they are like 5000 to 8000 just for the head and on ebay they dont go under 2800 to 3500.
Do two-rocks sound good without the reverb? I have never heard one of the run with the reverb off. I kinda get the impression that they need the reverb to compensate for a kind of dry tone. What is the deal?
Try TopHat amps, obviously you are wanting something in the Fender/Dumble/Mesa/Soldano/Two-Rock american-amp 6L6 camp. Seriously, two-rock is just copying the Dumble amps and adding some more gain and spring reverb. A blackface Fender Deluxe is what the original Dumble was based on, and a Two-Rock is based on a dumble. Best value is probably a Fender Blackface Deluxe Reverb reissue.
I have an opal amp. Have you changed the tubes or are they the one that came in it? It seems brighter and punchier than mine. It could be the cabinet. I am using a 1X12 Two Rock with a G1265. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Could also be the mic that he's recording with that has an a effect on the sound.
Youtube videos are always a less-than-perfect indication of what an amp or anything really sounds like.
Bring your amp to your local music store and see if they'll let you try some different cabs (they want your money, so I'm sure they will). I've tried the whole "it sounded good on Youtube so I'll buy it" thing... it doesn't usually work out.
If all else fails, try a graphic or (even better) parametric EQ.
@Shufflekings Yes it comes from your cabinet i guess. The G1265 is not punchy and not very dynamic, and on that speaker the treble end is rolled off a lot... hope this helps !
ahh that's what i have now but it doesn't sound anything like this! I'm thinking about a Ceriatone OTS because its a dumble clone and so is the two rocks but idk
I got a blues deluxe too man, if you mess with it enough, maybe add a dube screamer and some delay to it you can make it sound pretty close to a two rock. it's just a matter of how much you wanna mess with it. it took me like two months to get my tone right.
Well, i just watched a Fargen demo before this one. The difference in tone quality is huge. Obviously these 2 guys know what theyre doing too. I know which one i'd rather have, by a long shot !
I don't quite understand what makes these amplifiers worth 4 grand for just the head. Yes, they sound absolutely amazing but come on, 4 grand? Heck, the John Mayer signature Two Rock amp goes for almost 9 grand. Insane.
because its a boutique amp, if you want a unique tone that no one can easily duplicate then you will pay for it.. if you dont want that then buy a crate for $500 all day
in all honesty i think the guys who build these amps deserve that much money, but you're right. if everyone could afford it then they wouldn't be so great.
Not to say that these amps aren't maybe a little higher quality, but I don't think there is really that much to be gained by spending that much more money.
A good in-the-ballpark tube amp, combined with well set a parametric EQ (or two), an overdrive, a good power attenuator, or even a noise suppressor could match these "boutique" tones fairly easily, in my opinion.
Who cares if the resistors and capacitors don't have fingerprints on them?
@TheGatheringStorms I concur. I was thinking about getting a TR.. demoed like 4 of them and wasnt that impressed. The cleans are really really nice but seriously 5 g's?
Excellent rig, perfect playing. But mostly i loved the songs you played, I'm a boy from the new ages, but I love the style of 70 - 80 guitar masterpieces :)
Just look around dude...Check out some of the Fender amps for example. There are tons of videos on this site alone. Maybe add a tube screamer and your away :) Still works out cheaper than one of these bad boys but If you've got the money then hey...
while i love fender tones as much as the next guy, they're no excuse for a two-rock tone... these amps are like dumbles, except more with more bass-rich, buttery tones.
awesome but not sure it's worth the price. I saw Brad Whitford of aAerosmith using one about 3 weeks ago, I sat about 30 feet from the stage, his tone wasn't noticably better than any of the guys with amps that cost half that price.
These amps are heavenly... but I heard a rumor that they can cost up to 10,000 bucks. If thats the case, Mesa Boogie or vintage Fender valve is a much smarter choice. But I suppose if I had the money a professional musician had, hell I'd have one of each.
DSL 800 came out in 2000 and would not be considered vintage by guitar geek definition. Gear heads know that when I refer to vintage marshalls in comparison to a bassman they know I'm talking about the 60s and 70s era marshalls. Sorry if you didn't get the memo
Well, I could see the Bluesbreaker being compared to a Bassman, that's about it. In reference to the DSL comment, the amp I had in mind was the JCM 800, I apologize for the confusion. The JCM 800 came out in the early 80's.
Actually the "bluesbreaker" amp was pretty much designed, circuit wise, almost if not exactly the same as a Fender Bassman. The bluesbreaker amp is just a smaller version of the jtm-45 which clapton wanted so he could easily put it in his trunk for gigs back in the London marquee club days. Yeah I figured you were talking about jcm800 but the DSL caught me off guard. Respect

too bad you don't know much about what they actually cost...
there's no two-rock that costs $20k. The closest is the sterling or overdrive special at about $10k... go do some homework.
