@gisforgillett There KIND of is. He is not using a vocoder, which is what is usually used to put effects and make the singer sound better, rather he's running his mic through an effects pedal. It's kind of the same, but with a pedal it doesn't alter the voice instead of making it sound cool. It's like flavored water vs. sparkling water. flavored water is not real water, it is more of a juice, there is corn syrup in it. But sparkling water is just water with carbonation. Ya dig?

They're a bunch of hipster fucking graduated arts students in cardigans, signed to XL Records, incorporating world music instruments into their decidedly indie pop music. They are whiter than the snowy mountains of Switzerland. That doesn't make them any less awesome, however.

@ParsecSix I think the appeal is exactly what you just described. It's almost the antithethis to countercultures like Punk or Grunge. They're not rebelling against anything, and by some of the lyrics (not this song, however, which are the best I've heard from them) they make it painfully obvious that they embrace their whiteness and 'squareness'.
