  • Somebody is a GREAT pilot.

  • I want freelancer just for this mod, what can you do in freelancer (and this mod) besides space battles? trading? mining? logistics stuff? thats what I do in eve online and I heard this was like a mini eve so I though I would check it out. And is there any singleplayer mods? (sometimes my internet and multiplayer in general can be mean to me...)

  • the truth is that this ultra hi-poly Star Destroyer looked much better than the low-poly new one, which has the details added by shaders instead.

  • i've always wondered where the 100+ lesser turrets are on the Imperator I and II classes. All you ever get to see are the barbette on either flank,

    its a 2001/2002 game called Freelancer. But this is a mod for Freelancer, unfortunatelly its multi player only... how I wish they would re-do the entire X-WING / Tie Fighter games using this engine!

  • nicely done, ripped the model from Star Wars Galaxies I see, can't wait to see it with the guns blazing.

    I hope you don't make those globes shield gens (a common mistake with Star Wars video games, especially flight sims)

  • @Perion Ya, still took over 40 hours to convert it to get it working into freelancer. As for the radar globes, no we won't :)

  • thank you, I used to be a tester with the swg emulators and I know how hard it can be to work with the models, reminds me I should check up on them again, see how they are coming along.

    also it's nice to hear you know they are sensors XD

  • @Perion Actually, according to Ep. VI, scene just after Ackbar says, "Concentrate all firepower on that SSD," two Awings come in and destroy one of these globes. immediately after, a bridge officer on the SSD says, "Sir, we've lost our bridge deflector shields!" Based on this, I'll always believe them to be just that, deflector shield generators. Can't get more canon than that.

    The "Bridge" between these two globes, I believe are the sensors.

  • If you look at ILM behind the scenes they routinely refer to the globes as sensors, and they are labeled as such on the model blueprint, The A-wings came in as the shields were in the process of collapsing, They destroyed the sensors at the very moment the shields failed,

    That's why it's a common mistake, The battle was large with multiple things occurring at once, but the shields were brought down by Ackbar's ship and the surviving mon cals.

    The "bridge" is the tractor beam targeting array.

  • @Perion indeed but all star wars games have the radar globes as shields, from fan games like battle of yavin/endor to lucasarts games like rogue squadron, empire at war (including mods), xwing alliance, etc...

  • @currican the A-Wings couldn't get in to destroy those globes if the bridge deflectors weren't down. Only the relatively small (compared to the size of the entire SSD) bridge shields were brought down, by the entire rebel fleet, and if not for those 2 A-Wings, the should would be back up pretty quickly.

  • @currican Thos Globes ur talking about i think that is the Sheild Generator.

    Everytime I played Empire side on Star Wars Empire at War the sheild Generators were near the bridge of the ship

  • @Perion accually it hink the balls on the top are sheild generators because when the awings in episode 6 of star wars blow up one of the shperes on the executors bridge y does the guy say "sir we`ve lost our main bridge deflector sheild" ?

"At Endor, pounded mercilessly by the capital ships of the Rebel Alliance flotilla, the ship's shields -equivalent to the total power of a medium star- fail. At that moment, the Rebels are able to strafe the command tower - and with the Executor's navigation suite in ruins and defensive guns losing coordination, a careening A-wing destroys the bridge."

  • @Tankbuster1138 yeah that's where the misconception came from, however as the book quote I provided states, the two occurred simultaneously, the A-wings destroyed the globe as the shields were collapsing. Most games keep the shield globe thing only as a game mechanic, to make it possible that rebel players in fighters can get the thrill of taking on an entire Star Destroyer all by themselves. This is fine for single player, arcade games. Multiplayer sandbox however, not so much.

    But I have the feeling that the TIE Fighter is too big.

  • Trust me, it's not. Freelancer has a very strange way of changing perspectives on proportions. You'll see around 2 min as I get closer to the model, the scale becomes more apparent. It's hard to see unless you're 1m away from the larger model.

  • So in other words: If you're more than 1 m away from the SD, your TIE doesn't fit into th hangar bay.
