That's incorrect. Kamina is written "カミナ" which is completely unrelated to the word for deity (神).

カミナ uses a set of phonetic characters called "Katakana" which strongly suggest a non Japanese name. The Japanese language is notorious for it's homonyms. The word "kami" itself has 5 different meanings depending on how you write it (deity, hair, paper, seasonings and a few others I don't remember).

Fun fact: "kamina" is actually a real word in Japanese. It means "hermit crab".
