damn that lead singer/ guitar mo' fo hits them notes. commented not but a month ago. cant help for a second pat on the back. love these dudes. jealous as all hell on this cover.
Great version of this ... love the 3-note undercurrent repeat. Was looking for popular versions of this and almost flew right past yours. Glad I didn't. I think I'm a fan!
@callumholly67 First, you should know that I play this "wrong", meaning I don't play it the way Dave Matthews does. I think he plays it with bar chords, and stretches his pinky to add the "D" note to the C chord.
I play essentially the same notes he does, but in a different position. I'm playing an open C chord, then I add the D note with my pinky on the 2nd string, 3rd fret. That should be enough info for you to figure it out. Good luck.
This is a great cover. However, Dave Matthews masters this song. I like this version second only to Dave's. I will say that Mike should have a record deal and should WITHOUT QUESTION be playing music FULL TIME. Your covers of CREEP and THE SCIENTIST are better (or just as good) as the original performer's BEST PERFORMANCES. You are an incredible musician and talent
The absolute BEST version of this song anywhere - PERIOD. I love Johnny Cash, but you fellows even outdid the original. I would buy this one on CD! Excellent job guys - as usual.
Actually, it was a cover for Johnny Cash too. Danny Dill and Marijohn Wilkin originally wrote the song and it was first recorded in 1959 by Lefty Frizzell. We didn't hear Cash's version until about 1965.
@walkwithitraining if we're getting technical, it's not a Johnny Cash song either. It's a song written by Danny Dill, recorded by Lefty Frizzell, made famous by Johnny Cash and then performed live to critical acclaim by Dave Matthews and Emmylou Harris. This particular version is done more in the style of the Dave Matthews performance.
Don't try to be a know-it-all, unless you actually do know it all.
Awesome job. The band version of this song is very good too!
