In the full concert, which is also here: youtube .com/watch?v=aX7KkVanSEo , we can clearly hear that Humph names musicians in the beginning of the show. And - yes, this is not Scott.
It's Israels and Bunker. LaFaro and Motian were Evans first regular trio, though he recorded with the unrelated Joneses that played on the Bud Powell album, Time Waits. Not sure who played on the debut album. There's no live Evans footage with LaFaro.
Who is the idiot that wrote Scott LaFaro and Paul Motian in description?!? This is obviously Chuck Israels and Larry Bunker!!! Next you will be saying that Freddie Hubbard was Lee Morgan's GODFATHER!!!!
Hey! That's not Scott LaFaro! It's Chuck Israels! Hey! That's not Scott LaFaro! It's Chuck Israels! Hey! That's not Scott LaFaro! It's Chuck Israels! Hey! That's not Scott LaFaro! It's Chuck Israels! most beautiflu melody i juss cant get enough of it strange musik shuld always b simple that makes it more cuz it comes in the way u play those notes with expression and not juss to much crazienss cuz then u dont feel the true meanin of the artist like a poem its not too much but the artist makes it much with the way they recirte it....
@lealtadperonista Despite the info for this video, those are neither Scott LaFaro nor Paul Motian - the bassist here is Chuck Israels and the drummer is Larry Bunker
This might be my favorite video on Youtube. What a gorgeous melody and performance! Bill Evans was maybe the most expressive jazz pianist to come along.
The info text is confusing.. In this video the trio is with Larry Bunker on drums, and Chuck Israels on bass.. Also, I can't see why you tagged the video with DrThiMarques, John Coltrane, Stanley Jordan, and Bebop... Those are the kinds of tags that make YouTube a mess...
I suggest that you tag it with the real name of the players...
@mjulio71 I agree Larry bunker was very underrated, his brush work is amazing and his hand and foot coordination fantastic. he has influenced me,as a drummer for many years I only wish I had had the opportunity to thank for his great work before he passed over,he is a great study for any young drummers coming up.wonderful.thanx Larry.
Never knew this song originated with Bill Evans. I liked Earl Klugh's version (from years ago) but it doesn't show up on YouTube. Came here and enjoyed this version very much. Actually it was Ana Vidovic's "Cavatina" that most recently made me think of this song. It's on my faves if anyone might be interested in the comparison. I'm not a musician, so could be way off, but they sound similar to me.
"aFaro died in an automobile accident in the summer of 1961 in Flint, New York on US 20 between Geneva and Canandaigua[3], two days after accompanying Stan Getz at the Newport Jazz Festival. It was also just ten days after recording two live albums from the same performances, Sunday at the Village Vanguard and Waltz for Debby with the Bill Evans Trio
Jazz tunes are performed and recorded many many times. This video seems like a recording session after Scott LaFaro died. Of course this tune is best known with performance by Scott LaFaro, the bass player playing here in the video is Chuck Israels.
That qoute doesn't mean anything.. In this video the bassist is Chuck Israels.. You can go and check his homepage for pictures and will see. Also, check for Scott Lafaro.. he doesn't look like this. Nor did he sound like that, either.. The lines on the arrangement where his, though, but Israels learned all the lines when he joined the trio.. (you can read some Bill Evans bio, as well)
Please don't take me as arguing.. Just want to let things clear..
its really not man do know how lafaro plays and sounds. Some people are confused as they have heard of Lafaro as a great bassist and this clip the bass playing is great however its Chuck Israels not the same tone and touch as Lafaro. and on another note this is video. There are pictures of Scott and he doesn't look like this, this is however Chuck Israels, he sounds like him and looks like him.
Either way its great playing, but you are misguiding people here, with your description.

Yeah...this version is actually from 1965 in London. Four years or so after Scott LaFaro passed away. Chuck Israels is a fine substitute on bass IMO.
This is a fantastic version of this tune. It swings more at this slightly faster pace.
stretch54 8 months ago
@stretch54 Isreals was in no way a "fine substitute on bass" because this is indeed Scott LaFaro in the video!!!!

bill and scotty.... Bill was never the same after 61. chuck israel is perfectionist. scotty is more repulsive ramdom, almost out of control beauty.
I do not think scotty was ever recorded in film with bill.
this waltz for debby film was recorded on London 1965.

Nope this is Scott Lafaro. Quote Wikipedia:
"aFaro died in an automobile accident in the summer of 1961 in Flint, New York on US 20 between Geneva and Canandaigua[3], two days after accompanying Stan Getz at the Newport Jazz Festival. It was also just ten days after recording two live albums from the same performances, Sunday at the Village Vanguard and Waltz for Debby with the Bill Evans Trio
