I miss faldo's rythm. With all the power golf that's around nowadays it's unusual to see a player with his silky timing and reliance on control and accuracy over power.
Greg was awesome in his day too and as said both would have found a way to beat eldrick tont woods in their prime.
I know some don't agree but really Greg Norman should have won no joke maybe 4 times the amount of majors than he really did. Whether it was because his game wasn't on during the 4th round or his opponent would make a miraculous shot and snatch the title from him for some reason the last day of the majors never went Greg's way. Norman is probably the most under rated golfer that there has ever been
Faldo and Norman went into the 3rd round of the 1990 Open tied at 12 under. Faldo walked off the 18th green on that Saturday 9 shots in front of Norman (I believe). Norman chose to choke in the 3rd round this time instead of the back 9 of a major.
Baker-Finch went out early that day and was in front and then went on to win the following year.
No one could have beaten Faldo in 1990 - he was relentless.
I watched this round and it really set me off wanting to play golf. Faldo played unbelievable and just killed Norman off.Massive swing by the end of the round. One of the best rounds Faldo ever played.
I was there that day and Faldo had the ball on a string that week. I think he was 20 under. He won the Masters and the Open that year and missed getting in a play-off for the US Open by a whisker on the last hole. A pure striker like very few before or since, a great golfing brain and immense dedication. Nice to have seen him in his prime.

NICK, now that you do tv talk for golf, how is it that you think WE want to HEAR you TALK during a players swing! SHUT UP! you above all people should know its lame to hear people talk when someone is swinging, yes even when we are watching on tv, you doltz, how can we get a email protest going???
Sometimes I think that every day (about the modern breed). Say "boo," they shoot 73 to Tiger's 69.
Nicklaus had Trevino, Miller, Watson, Casper, Palmer, Floyd--multiple-major winners. Tiger's competition, beyond maybe Phil, is more on the order of Orville Moody, Lou Graham, George Archer, etc. Fine players, guys who won a major or two--but not at the level of Palmer or Watson, or even Casper.
But then, adolescents always think nobody ever did anything well before they did, yeah? ;-)
Nobody knows this now, but Faldo at his best was pure beauty. Man, I loved watching that guy play.
Same could be said of Norman, by the way. At his best, he was as good as Tiger or anyone else. He may have been #1 for only a year or two--but is that so bad? He reached the pinnacle, as did Faldo, and he found out what it was like. He still knows. His detractors don't, but he does.
Hate to say it, but great golf really was played before 1996.
This may not be an argument you want to be in. Statistically, factoring in changes in equipment and conditioning, looking at average iron hit into green, etc., the fact is that the idea of the modern players being better is a complete myth--no matter how badly the Tour office wants you to believe otherwise.

Not to discredit other parts, but Greg Normans long game was amazing. Especially with a wood made of wood in his hands.

danic18: This is about the 1990 Open. Seve missed the cut - that's why he's not shown here.

great words emncaity...
for me the world golf scene is far worse off without, faldo norman and seve.
all three would have given tiger a run for his money.
sometimes i think the modern breed of player is totally beaten to death by tiger before a shot has been played!
