I'm very sorry but the singers were way off key and their intonation was very poor...however.......I give them kudos for singing this song...... I have to agree with Fighting re; the tenors....sorry.....Dont 'mean to be critical.
THank you for your criticism. By the way, I am a music major and a chorus director if a major well known choir, and I"m also a member of AOG!!! The last thing I need is a negative rude comment from people like you sgabriel! Remember: If you dont have anything nice to say, keep your pie hole shut! THank you. Happy Holidays!
I don't undertand where you're coming from, tenor175. Why are you "thanking" me? What criticism?
I've criticized no choir here, nor have I criticized any person. I said nothing negative about anyone, merely corrected someone's description of a motet as a song. Were you involved with this choir, or with the conversation on this page up to now?
Again, I don't know where you're coming from, in both senses..
Yes you have....I still say if you dont have anything nice to say keep your mouth shut!!! And yes, I was involved with the choir!!!!!!
As far as I'm concerned this matter is closed and the discusion is finished!!! DOn't bother me no more or I"ll report you for harrassment!!! Thank you.
i think you might have got that impression as soprano voice were actually sung by male children and it seems to be a counter-tenor singing alto voice...
I have to agree with the shrillness of the tenor intonations. Being a tenor myself, you must open up to sound like men rather than boys. The overall intonation suffers because of it.
It is probably best in this song to sing in falsetto as it is a chant. However, singing in falsetto doesn't mean shrill and juvenile sounding. I am a tenor and I have performed this work many times, you have to open up as if the notes are coming out the top of your head rather than your mouth.
This reminds me of the Cardinal Fareeman Village in Ashfield Sydney Australia. Nice piece. Anything in this period by Gibons, Palestrina, Tallis , Victoria , Byrd to name a few makes me spellbound. Thankyou.
What a beautifully executed performance! I remember doing this song in my high school choir back when...this choir beats us by miles! It must be so cool to sing in a place with good acoustics.

That wasn't "critical".. it was merely negative.
Incidentally, this is not a "song".

The women sounded a little childish at moments and so did the tenors but over all, I'd say it was pretty good.

What do "women" sound like in your country?
sgabriel 2 years ago
Ouch. Too fast. Embarassing intonation problems. Did you go a full tone flat? Just saying. I'd be embarassed by this performance.

No, it doesn't. It is in the third note. "Ce-"

Everybody knows that Palestrina's metronome was inaccurate.
Right?

This sounds great! So spiritual and such soul... Bravo!

lol.. what poor intonation! most singers are totally off for their first notes.

It's the men who are struggling, the tenor(s) have to open the vowels! They're singing through their noses and chins.
They have good ears, and are keeping up the pitch, but they are struggling with the blend because their vowels are not even close to uniform.
Still, thanks for posting! Talented choir!

do the tenors have to use falsetto?

A very commendable attempt, especially with young boys as sopranos and altos. Yet this gives the piece the purity of the sound that it should be !!!!
Bravo!
