Love me some steampunk :) but I've been having trouble finding good sources for parts. If anybody knows of any good places in the Houston area please pm me :)
What I find interesting is that it's only been considered an aesthetic unto itself for, what, maybe 20 something years... is that long enough for somebody to be a "legend?" :P
@jjobie Well, I guess it is, if pretty much everyone in a world-wide movement has seen his work, knows his name, and aspires to someday make something as cool as his work? Plus he's been around for a while?
I know what you're saying, but I don't think the usage here is ENTIRELY erroneous... ;-)

man if only i had that sorta money to get all those power tools to make that stuff god id make soooooo much stuff dude someone tell him to build a SP styled tv that would look so amazing have like green glowing tube and stuff on the side like plasm
This really makes me want to get much more involved in the steampunk community. I am staring at my notebook (laptop) trying to figure out some cheap (on a college student's budget) conversions. Rwar.
I think steampunk is a really interesting style, but I don't understand how a community can be formed around it... Maybe just artists who have the similar interest in common...
@StationaryTransient You'd be surprised. I'm part of the Toronto Steampunk Society. I don't do metal arts - nor do I make costumes. But I'm a wicked researcher with a creative edge. If I want a costume, I design it and get it made by a steampunker who costumes. It's like buying hockey equipment, really.
@StationaryTransient Even in that sense, then it would be a community of artists who have the similar interests...in steampunk. So a steampunk community. It's not difficult to figure out at all :/
@StationaryTransient Steampunk already is a scene. It is for those who like the style, are interested in the Victorian era and also Fantasy and SciFi fans. It combines fashion, history, technical things and all kinds of art. The people who like that meet at convention etc., can make a role play, exchange about fashion or history and watch steampunk artists. So all in all it is already a community. Not only artists can have fun there :)
@StationaryTransient Its just like sports, when a sport gets big society starts to reflect it, the arts work the same. If you hang around a bunch of artists/performers who act and believe in similar things ideals and such begin to develop.
@StationaryTransient You don't need to understand how it is a community, it just is :D its people that love steampunk coming together, its a very valid community
@StationaryTransient The same way there's a stamp-collecting community: people who share similar interests tend to congregate. It's just that with Steampunk, the interest is an aesthetic overlay--an artistic way of approaching everything else in your life.
