@X0nnatan According to the album notes, Kaempfert was a fan of South African tribal music so that is most likely the word's origin. Indeed this whole 1962 album has an African theme. Similau's meaning? Someone out there may know.

It was in Los Angeles, it was a surf band and it was never recorded. But there is a nice surf version done by a band called The Finks in the early 90's.
