Average income on a reservation 5,000 a year.The government sends thousands of dollars for food,land managment,and health centers. With out the government there is no financial support for NDNs. @PathlessReality the government tried so hard to destroy our identity and the almost accomplished that. However a culture must adapt to its current environment in order to sustain. So just look at it as NDN's being in a transition. So many think that since we say we are native that we have to dress traditional and walk around hugging trees. I am a traditional modern day native. i know my history, my people, my land, and etc.
The Native Americans are a conquered nation. Just like any other country that gets invaded and taken over the people must suffer for its countries loss. Now the United States saw it fit to let the people remain and live other wise thier would be no indian nation of today. I am tired of hearing about wrongs done to one another. Just forgive and forget. Turn the other cheek. Love thy enemy as thyself. Its in the past there hasnt been a massacre in about a hundred years. There are now free schools that you can learn to speak a native language. Its not like people are being arrested for speaking it. Average income on a reservation 5,000 a year.The government sends thousands of dollars for food,land managment,and health centers. With out the government there is no financial support for NDNs. No government.No NDNs.Which is alright but dont act like NDNs just survived with out any help from the government.I am just stating fact not opinion.

@purtyblackfoot I dont know anything about that I know what I know because I have mingled with the grassroot people of the reservations I have been to.Worcestor vs Georgia was a big case if was between Cherokees and the state of Georgia but i bet it had something to do with lands being taken or the right to practice tradition.This case got recongized but the government so atleast it was taken to court.Now here something you find in the history books.Who was John Collier? So just look at it as NDN's being in a transition. So many think that since we say we are native that we have to dress traditional and walk around hugging trees. Casino's is the only enterprise in america that gives a large lump sum of money back to the local cities, state, and federal government. ANd they didn't allow us to exist. We sustained and survived. I'm honestly sick of people from India getting mad that we were misnomered "Indians." Nobody is trying to correct that more than us. But it has new meaning...OVER HERE. Get over it!

I have always heard that the people who live in India are called, "People of India", but in America, there are the "American Indians". Nonetheless, regardless of what people call you, you should still be proud of your heritage.
