  • Hey man! You're GREAT! World will always simile with musicians like you! A real enjoyment to hear you! A huge clap from Argentina

  • very nice

  • u like dire straits dont ya? hahahah

  • I know why people call you Jimi Knopfler, heavy gauge strings = tone (Knopfler )

    song = Jimi

  • Reminds me of Mark, Mark Knopfler...

  • Beh, questa è una cover, non una copia, ma un' esposizione personale...BRAVO!!

  • shit... this is mark knoplfer playing on a jimi hendrix's song.

  • Which tuning is it?

  • Very nice. Way better then I could. It just is a little bit overcrowded with notes, with a couple of well played rests this would become a very relaxed and fitting solo.

  • Omfg i watched this vid like à 100 times. U switch soo nice from scales...

  • Hero

  • chords????

  • @mrpoere Em,G,Am,G,E,Bm,B#,Am,G,F,C,D

  • gooood felling

  • you are a brilliant guitarist and mind blower fantastic.

  • your a fender guy. i love it. thats all i own. i have a squire strat and a p bass. the bass is one of the best basses i've ever had.

  • very great i dont think people should follow jimis notes on this song. just play the song with you own feeling

  • Nicely done, Jimi Knopfler ;-)

  • dude.. you got some sick skills

  • you impress me man... you took a god's work and turned it into something just as beautiful, and for that, im going to buy your book twice

  • Kirk,

Do you do anything to keep your nails together?

Mine return to nubs if they get the least bit long.

    thanks,

    suits

  • This totally makes the panties drop...

  • 1:00-1:25 Best Part

  • Where did you get that backing track?

  • Telling a story with the guitar, these are the kind of executions I love.. Great play.

  • This is Fucking awesome

Do you have tabs for this ?

  • Beautiful playing dude.

  • Well.... What to say? When someone comes here is to judge... but, this is just a good result! I feel Dire straits and Pink floyd together, here. And a bit of Jimi of course. Eventually: I like it. ;)

  • a little too twangi for my taste... but not bad i suppose

  • I'm never gonna get this.

    =(

  • reminds me of satch, in his newer ballads and stuff

  • do you mean that this is an arpeggio?

  • @666bafos ... sort of ... not in the true sense of the word, but I'm creating lines based on chord tones, so you could say that.

  • Great improv, cheers

  • I,you're a best artist man! sorry my cuestion,i'am a beginer,wath scale you used in this improv?tanks a lot

  • What effects/amp are you using to get that sound? Sounds like the Eric Johnson sound, which I have yet to figure out how to recreate.

  • Ive learned a whole new outlook on the guitar from this one vid.

I may even have a Youtube vid ready soon ... showing his influence on my playing.

  • Hi, i'm learning your improv, I think it's a great piece !

but, i'm a beginer and I cant find what chord you play on 0:33

could you please let me know ? which string and which "compartment" :S (sorry i'm french) thanx !

  • @superpatatte ... that's a D chord. I'm holding the D note on the E string. I have a G# note on the B string bent up to A, then I release the tension down the G#.

  • @superpatatte don't learn improv, feel it man!!!

  • I want to ask you a question. I can't exploit the pentatonic boxes as they should, I can only improvise always the same melodic lines and this make my improvisation boring. How can I exploit it better?

  • Very well played!

  • Finger plucked to perfection, it floats man and dats the truth. Tone for days just the right whammy and jazzy soft inetrepation. Good job.

  • sounds really mark knopfler ish

  • Cool...

  • Today it came to me.

I now understand what you said about avoiding scales and playing to the chords.

Its amazing how simple, yet complex your approach to the guitar is, and it opens up a whole new aspect of play style.

You should make an instructional DVD

  • @SquierCV60s ... I did! PlaneTalk is a book/DVD/Slide Rule package that comes with an extra CD lesson called 'The Chord Tone Blues' that looks specifically at the blues. 99% of players use the blues scale, but why restrict yourself to a handful of notes when there in fact 12 to play around with? I got bored with that in about 1975. It ain't cheap, but it's the last book you'll ever need to buy. You should go to the site and read the testimonials. The link is above in the info panel.

  • I love the harmonizing notes that you use.

I have the same approach in improv as you, except that i'm a bassist ;) People think that when you know scales you know everything, but learn how to play first, love the music, know the progressions, and act solely on your feelings and then these kind of solo's come out before you know it =)

  • I was hoping for a TAB to get me thinking how you do. Though, after listening and playing while "inspired" I am starting to understand your approach to the music.

I cant say enough good things about you and this tune, it (and you) have broadened my musical horizons far beyond where I was at.

Anyway, thanks for the improv, you are truly a visionary ... and a master of your craft.

  • @SquierCV60s ... thanks for the nice feedback. :-)

  • Inspired me to play this type of improv ... NICE.

    Worked very well.

    Thank you for the inspiration

  • @SquierCV60s ... I'm glad to have inspired you! There is no tab, by the way, why tab out an improv? I play it different every time.

  • Comment removed

  • That is one of the most original improvs I have seen in a long time. Very well done!!

Any chance of finding the backing track and TAB online? Id love to try this, it would definitely be thinking "outside the box" as far as how I usually play.

  • man ; its so good..

i need to ask something... do you used some scales? or only 1??

  • @MrMakore ... Thanks, mate, glad you like it. I don't think scales. I was never able to juggle them around and I got sick of the Pentatonic thirty years ago at least. I just follow the chords as they come and go, basing my lines and phrases off the chord tones. You never go wrong then, so long as you remember the progression. You should buy my book PlaneTalk!

  • @planetalk ty; maby i wil buy your book.. but now i play this song on some scals and its good sound..... but i think to start leraning about solo on chord!

  • daaaaaaaamn.....thats awesome...well done

  • I must've jammed over this tune a thousand times, seen and heard a thousand other guys do it, too. Never heard it done so sweetly as this. Most guys try to sound too much like Jimi. Thanks for a totally new statement on a tune that had gotten a bit worn to me. It's all fresh for me again.

And yup, I'm goin' round to all my jammin' buds sayin', "Hey, you gotta check out this guy's take on Little Wing!"

  • @IFY0USEEKAY ... Thanks, IYSK ... I appreciate the feedback.

  • nice..

  • This is way cool bro, I felt like i was hearing a little knopler with a cross of clapton and maybe a touch of gilmore. Anyways i really enjoy your style of playing.

  • easy? lol...you are nub ^^

he is not playing "just a pentatonic" or something likt hat..he is doing an improvisation playing on the chord..not so easy like you think :D

ive been playing for 3 ytears and i still cant do it ^^

  • @PLUGBAYONET No worries, just happy you get my point... I am sorry though if I have upset you. It was not my intention.

  • this bloke obviously has not had been told about manners and courtesy. He cant be bothered to reply to me for some reason even though he replies to other people

  • @PLUGBAYONET He doesn't have to reply to anyone... Perhaps he simply missed your comments (I'm sure he's flooded with quite a few). Your attitude definately won't help your cause... patience and understanding is key.

  • patience and understanding ????? Courtesy is the key. AND what has it got to do with you ?

  • @PLUGBAYONET What has it got to do with me? Well you decided to leave negative comments amongst many positive ones on a completely open and public comments page to slander his character. I am completely within my rights to question your attitude. It annoys me that you think you demand something of someone who has already provided you with free entertainment and learning resources. I think it would be courteous of you to simply be thankful for what you have been given; he owes you nothing...

  • @ballagie you are without doubt peculiar !!!!!!

  • I am very disapointed that you are not responding to me, you are responding to other people. I left you very nice feedack and feel offended that you have not allowed me the courtesy of a reply

    Bob

  • Hey this is great! I very enjoy hearing a version thats not only in Em pentatonic. What scales are you using over each of the chord changes?

    Thanks

  • @Sydetrakd ... thanks for the nice feedback. I don't really think in scales so I can't help you there. I just see each chord as one long shape that takes up the whole fingerboard. I then just connect the dots ...

  • sounds to me like you have alot of gilmour and knopfler influence?

  • how long have you been playing? ive been playing a year and i cant improvise really well any hints?

  • Where can I find the backing track?

  • Man, that was amazing.....

  • HI Its me again, I would still like to buy this backing track, please get back to me

    Bob

  • very, very nice. I liked your other video with the slide also. And for the folks that asked... I believe basic (you can embellish of course) chord progression is Em, G, Am, Em... Bm, Am, C, G, F, C, D...

  • I would love you to send the backing track to me please. I am happy tp pay any reasonable fees. I would be proud and honoured to try and play like yourself. If you could send it to me, Bob

  • This is without doubt the best interpretation of little wing Ive ever heard and I sure Hendrix would approve. You have produced a very haunting rendition which will stay with me for ever. Level of skill is excellent and I wish I could play like this. Thank you

  • Mark Knopfler!

  • what is the chord progression in this

  • great!

  • check out my channel for more vids on chord progressions and melodies.

  • this thing is super easy to do but its aloso pretty cool and relaxing...

  • Would you like me to send you the backing track so you can do your own? I'd love to hear it. You can show us all how easy it is.

  • This tongue in cheek reply had me LOL X2. Great playing BTW, and I'm still wondering why if it's so easy I can't seem to play it yet? Just subscribed, I've got a lot to learn. Keep posting.

  • man that is one amazing strat. YOu play well. Are u part of a band?

  • @planetalk can you send me the backing track??? its a very awesome one and i cant find any good ones online

  • ma è bellissimo *.*

  • sounds like jerry garcia! nice work

  • I wish I could play like that!

  • this is calming

  • Nice stratocaster, i live by she

  • even one wrong note!!!

  • :x great playing

  • Very like mark knopfler. Liking it a lot.

  • Plucking the strungs with your fingers!

    Cool..

    Is that "the claw" ?

    .

  • Amazing, goose bumps everywhere.

  • if this werent jimi's song, i'd say that you're playing pink floyd.really:)

  • i just creamed my pants

  • its hendrix....

  • Reminds me of Pink Floyd....

    anyways, great playing.

  • yes, a little bit like David Gilmour ^^

  • was just thinking that :)

  • @MAJ0RM1KE ~ more like a mix between David Glimore and Jerry Garcia.

  • Man Squeaky, your way off on this one thats digital reverb, so there goes the crutch.

  • nice playin buddy

  • envidioso!

  • HAHAHAh oh.... hardly.

  • upload a video then you chump.

  • you dont even know what tone means. you are a 19 year old clown who has been playing for 3 years. post a video of you strumming your g chord and singing hotel california you poser.

  • Oooo. someone is angry. I prefer tones that sound more like Hendrix. Late Cream, Jeff Buckley, etc. But whatever, it's all opinions. I think digital delay, especially for tunes like this, is a crutch.

  • wow dude you have really eclectic tastes... you're practically the only guitarist i know who likes Hendrix's sound. and rythemguitar4life is right about you being the butt end of a mop compared to this dude.

  • So quick to judge. sigh. If only you weren't some mid-20's person on youtube.

  • I am 16 and i have been playing guitar for 5 years and i play fairly well, but i do not agree with SqueakyWaffle. Using effects can make a piece even more beautiful. And lets face it this guy could mop the floor of any of us with his taste of notes.

  • hey kirk can u tell me the softwares u use to make de percusion?

  • You are also a vodoo doctor of music, but I think your medicine is better than hendrix.

  • Oh I like hendrix. He is a the vodoo doctor of music.

  • I think improvised music is a scam, but they can't scam me because I read music, not quack musician.

  • love this.cool

  • Where is a solo Hedrix ?

  • It is one long solo basically...

  • but first 4 the tacts of solo the hendrix are exquisite

  • Awesome Strat.....Beautiful haunting sound......Smooooth playing.......and yes the tasteful use of whammy is an Art......Solid performance thanks for putting it up I think Im gonna listen to this little Gem a lot!

  • need more feeling

  • Sweet!

  • This is awwsome, good job dude.

  • I love the subtle use of the whammy

  • I think it's Inca Silver

  • i love this. this is awesome. gud job man

  • very good jaob man!!!i like it

  • great!

btw, whats the colour of that strat? it looks fantastic

  • It looks like a classic Shoreline Gold to me, but that's just my best guess. Great color.
