@WintersShadow Go to Amazon. com and search for "The Transformers" in "Movies & TV". They have seasons, the movie or a box set of the complete series (searching for code B004NJC0JI will locate the box set at $40 off).
@x3r0k4i Call of the Primitives is unique among season 3 episodes, as it was not produced by the season's regular animation studio, AKOM.
Abominus, created from the Terrorcons, appeared suddenly towards the end of season 3, and the Autobots acquired Computron, formed by the Technobots, in response.
It wasn't canceled, it just ended. This is from season 3, of which all episodes aired, in the U.S. and other countries (tho I can't speak for wherever you are).
For season 4, they had ideas and structure for a full season (the Quints and Unicron's head would have teamed up), but Hasbro looked at the declining interest and instead opted to finish up with a mini-series to showcase some new toys; hence Rebirth.
In Japan, Headmasters ignores Rebirth and continues from The Return of Optimus Prime.
@AeonMagnus: Regarding the possible direction season 4 might've taken, do you have any sources that mention any details (however scarce)? I've Googled my eyes out and never found anything except [often contradictory] hearsay. For example, I once read that, for some legal reason or another, the writers couldn't touch the Quintessons. The same fellow said Starscream would and his team of renegade Decepticons , including Shockwave (!), would feature prominently.
@senatus I've never head of that about the Quintessons. Not saying it's not true, just I've never heard of it. Google: Flint Dille interview Unicron's head
@AeonMagnus: Many thanks for the information. Fascinating stuff.
I figure the Quintesson legal issues bit is nonsense -- something that was gradually distorted from one netizen to the next. But I do wish I could find something about the Starscream/renegade 'Cons rumor. Given Galvatron's penchant for mistreating his troops*, it'd follow that various "traitors" and willful defectors would rally behind someone else.
*Some claim the Hate Plague cured his madness. Seems reasonable (con't)
... given that he, a'la Megs, ceased hostilites, shook hands with Prime and said he'd "earned Galvatron's respect." Typical S3 Galvy would still go apes**t :)
That's also loosely corroborated by how effective a leader he was in "The Rebirth," whatwith his troops overwhelming -- and momentarily reclaiming (?) -- Cybertron.
Point being, Galvs grew far less apt to beat up his own peeps, so the idea that any number of 'Cons would suddenly decide to follow Starscream in S4 is ... kinda dumb ;)
Still got these guys all Decepticon combiners(thru 3rd season) except Menasor. Abominus looks great here, the purple helmet does wonders. The toy had a gray helmet, yellow eyes, and light purple face.
For the 80's, this was incredibly good, almost as good as the movie's animation. Considering all the other episodes I've seen of G1, this looks spectacular.
I think Akira Toriyama (DragonBall Franchise) did this one. I still say they could've re-done G1 from Season 1 to ReBirth (which looked good) like this episode.
@MrDCWood Rodimus Prime: this is becoming a very BAAD experience!! LOLOLOLOL The only thing I liked about Rodimus is that he would say stuff there no way OPtimus would say. You should see scene when Trypticon and Sky-lynx come in, the dialogue between him and Spring is cartoon history to me
I agree. And I just found out what animation studio did this episode. Its a japanese animation studio TMS Entertainment. They did alot of japanese anime and movies like Akira and aswell many foreign productions like Real Ghostbusters, Galaxy Rangers, Ulysses 31 and Sonic X. Just to mention a few. Man if season 3 had stick with that studio the show would have stayed abit longer. Ofcourse decent writers are important too. Yet somehow they didnt got the deal to do more. Thats sad
I had a feeling this episode was unique! Througout the 80's, intro's were done by an anime studio which rocked the crap out of the episodes themselves.
Very strange: graphycally speaking, TF cartoon was very poor, but the picture of Abominus from 0:07 till 0:11 is very good, similar to a japanese robot cartoon!
yea i do agree. transformers dealt with alot of quality issues in it's run. mostly though during the first two seasons. characters were frequently off model or almost comedicaly disproportionate
Piranacon/King Poseidon, Monstructor, Landcross, Liokaiser, Road Caesar, Raiden, Dinoking, Battle Gaia, Guard City, and the Micromaster combiners of Sixbuilder, Sixwing, Sixliner, Sixtrain and Sixturbo.
Beast Wars, which is part of the G1 continuity, included Magnaboss and Tripredacus.
I prevered the predacons in both series and comics. Especially the comics. True Decepticon bountyhunters. They hunted down Optimus and almost killed him. Battled the Dinobots, their arch rivals in the comics. And defeated a demented Megatron
I dunno man. Predaking couldnt beat Sky Linx during their battle in the 5 Faces of Darkness episode because he appeared to lack speed/agility. As a group I'd rather have the terrorcons alongside me in a battle because they look bigger and stronger than the predacons soo I guess that means I favor Abominus
I like both Predaking and Abominus, but judging from their tech specs, Predaking would win, as he doesnt think like a normal G1 gestalt (clunky slow and dumb) bbut acts with animalistic killing instinct. Not to mention Predaking's Toy version kicks ass too. Die-cast metal, a lost art.
Predaking is the strongest of all the Gestalts created, Autobot or Decepticon. You need to see the "bumper" for Predaking at the end of the episodes of season 3 where it gives you the character profiles. It states the Predaking is the strongest there is.

This was before the show was cancelled in the U.S., I'm guessing? Unless it aired in other English speaking countries. I don't remember this!
I need to get season 3 part 2 of my Rhino collection.
Then I want to find headmaster episodes once the show was canceled in the U.S.

Here are all combiner teams:
Constructicons - Devastator
Aerialbots - Superion
Stunticons - Menasor
Combaticons - Bruticus
Protectorbots - Defensor
Predacons- Predaking
Terracons - Abominus
Technobots - Computron
I only listed that appeared in the american Transformer series. Season 1 to 3. The japanese series and US / UK Marvel Comics had alot more
Jagticon 2 years ago 2
There were at least two more proper combiner teams in the G1 toyline after the show's cancelation:
Seacons - Piranacon
Pretender Monsters - Monstructor
