The Ryokan & Minshuku are a wonderful way to experience Japan. Believe me the pleasure of staying in one will stay with you when ever you think back and remember Japan. Not cheap but good value that's for sure. As they say 'quality is it's own reward'.
Anyone please help! I am eleven and my best friend and I are saving up to go to japan. How much will it cost for the flight, a hotel, and money for dining, sights and shopping? (were going to Osaka, Kyoto or Tokyo not really sure)
@tweeniegirlz MESSAGE ME AND ILL TELL U, KAYAK.COM FOR THE BEST AIRPRICE AND THEN GO TO TOKYO, 1,500 DEPENDING WHERE U ARE IS THE TICKET PRICE, HOTEL, GO TO EITHER SAKURA HOTEL JIMBOCHO IN TOKYO, OR TAMA RYOKAN, SAKURA IS 30 A NIGHT AND TAMA RYOKAN IS 50 A NIGHT FOR A SUITE RYOKAN, PLZ REPLY FOR MORE DETAILS
@LuchiaPinkPrealVoice If you have a Japanese-national friend, offer to pay their way around the sites if they serve as "when-needed" translator for you. Or you might just ask if they'd like to go on vacation with you, first, before offering cash. ;)
@LuchiaPinkPrealVoice Everyone learns basic english in school, but it might not be enough to help you. some times you get lucky and someone will know some english in more urban areas.
It's interesting to hear standard American with correct Japanese. Ryo-kan, with a nearly silent R. And not rye-oak-on. It's also not koney-che-wa. Kon-n-echi-wa, dragging a double N sound. Right?
I just realized how comfortable Japanese people are when it comes to nudity. So...I guess all the men just bathe together with their balls and cocks hanging out and the women just bathe together with their vag and breasts out as well. I remember showering with my mom or aunt when I was young but I never really did it again once I hit the age of 9. No wonder they're so good at making H manga and anime.
Just because other nations are okay with nudeness doesnt mean its ok lol, pervs are u stupid or something, if everyone started killing people tommorow would u say we just have to get used to it? All it means is that were the only ones with the right thing down, decency, its not like britain or france are all nude.
if you dont like it dont do it but it is part of the culture of japan and it is not like there are mixed , now comparing nudeness with killing people is overreacting
there are thousands of these in all over Japan excpet very middle of big town like Tokyo, Usually have big spa (onsen). And dinner...ryokan stuff carry one after another like traditional crusin style. They will also place your futon on tatami floor.
Since there are thousands of there, it all depends on which one you pick....very cheap one start 70$...expensive one start 400 or 500$ per night. Good thing is that you will always get dinner and breakfast including the these price.
There are way cheaper alternatives like YMCA hostels, which basically offers u a bunk bed and public bathroom. Maybe on your last day in Japan u can go to a ryokan.
I was in Japan last summer. They cost on average $200 a night for decent ones. You can get some that are $100, but they're sort of crappy. The top ones can cost up to $800.
They're not all like that. Some are more luxurious than others. The one in the video will definitely cost over $400 a night minimum based on my experience.
I suggest you to stay at what we call "Business Hotels"...it is from 50$ to 100$ per night and usually come with breakfast. And you can find them near railway stations everywhere you go in Japan. And there are plenty bed and breakfast accomodations if you go country side.
Always try to stay at one if I get the chance and have the time. Took my wife to one in Kyoto this last Obon when visiting my family in Japan. LOL it rained at night but it was still nice to watch the gardens and pool from our room. She loved it, just a little uncomfortable sometimes. But she would probably get use to it in time.
im staying at a ryokan for a week when i go to japan and i was told u must be naked when u go into the bath , even if u are a westerner. of course this will take some getting used to haha
As for the topic of getting naked when they take bath, I think US is unusually sensitive about it. Do you know in Scandinavian countries, people go in the sauna all naked and they are surprised at how American's have problem with it?
Go to public bath in Japan called "Sento", all the strangers take a bath in a big tub and people have no problem with it. It's just a matter of getting used to it.
and plus, those rules are not "necessary" if you dont want to follow it, it's just to make you feel the japanese traditional, you dont have to sit like that if u dont want to, its all good
I think the rules are necessary , you are going to a place like that because you want to experiment traditional Japanese hotels also it is a matter of respect
You left out what you do with the slippers in the toilet. You take off the slippers that you are wearing and leave them outside and change into the toilet slippers provided.
I'd have a hard time there. I phisichally CANT sit like that with the legs crossed.

It's prety good vidio. The reporter seems to be faminilar with not only the language but also the culture; the way of eating, greeting etc...
It' strange that many Japanese are interested in laxiourious western-style hotels rather than traditional ones even in this country.
