  • From what i´ve read, the poison itself isnt life threatening, however it is dangerous for swimmers etc due to the immense pain it causes. If im not mistaken, the poison was also paralyzing. ¨

It Does look like the man-of-war, but who am i to judge? :)

  • Wow ur lucky dat u did not die...........

  • Extremely dangerous hobby you have there - in a boat quite a way from shore - the tentacles from these things can be as long as 30 metres and can spread out in all directions - and can kill. Don't play with them ok?

  • @googeju I picked one up, nothing happened to me, well by that flab thingy it has.

  • if one of its tentacules touch you will burn your skin like acid

  • eeeeeeeee, get out of the water D:

  • OMG UR SO BRAVE THEY CAN KILL SO FAST

  • Actually, no. Their sting hurts, but it is completely harmless, So it cant .

  • LOL, people get knocked out and killed from this sting mate.

  • it cant kill me XD?

  • To awesor your question it really is a man-of-war also known as blue bottle.

I live in portugal and today i just got stung by one of those fuckers.

God it hurts so fucking mutch but deaths are extremelly rare.

But it really does hurt as fuck.

I got stung about 5 hours ago and im still in horrible pain.

In my beach alot of people are geting stung right now.

  • Well it can but not usually

  • that guy gots some balls to get that close to one.

  • Yeah, they are from a group of animals called sinophores, a colony of dozens of animals working together as different parts, such as the tentacles, float, mouth, stomach, reproductive organs and such, not just 2-3 organisms, Phoenixblazr.

  • Dude your wrong.

I studied these cretures for along time and even conducted experiments on various specimens .

The man of war is only 4 organisms working together not dozens.

  • wow u studdy them me 2 can u tell me soemthings about it plz

  • Ok .

The man o war is 4 organisms working together as one .

    1 for the stings.

    1for the digestion.

    1for reproduction

    1 for moving.

But they lack strenght and so they relly on the wind to move them.

Also many people say that these things can kill you but it rarely happens.

This summer i got stung by one and it seriously hurt like hell but wasnt life trethning. And ive still got the scars to prove it :D

  • thx!

  • No problem.

Also if you want to know more check wikipedia. Its has alot of simple and quite usefull information abou the things. Also has some good ways to reduce the pain from wen your stung by one.

  • yes, portuguese man o'war... wow you are brave to get that close. pretty shot

  • the portuguese man o' war is a 'colony' of myriads of polyps, each one with a specific function for the colony....

  • itz a portuguese man-o-war alright but the person who says itz a by-the-wind-sailor may also be correct but u stated it had all itz tentacles

portuguese man-o-war is actually made up of about 2-3 organisms that work together and the marine biologist up there should know too :P quite interesting and yes it is very poisonous mainly it'll paralyze u and u'll drown :) so be careful :P

  • neat

  • in response to hurricane: while we were in belize, someone found one washed up on the island we stayed on (glover's reef). perhaps they are common. for martha: this one had all its tentacles either retracted or missing. i wonder why this was...

  • @ramadi111 maybe a turtle did eat all its tentacles

  • that is definitely a man-o-war. VERY poisonous. (I'm a marine biologist, so if you have any specific questions, just ask :)

  • This is definetly a man o war, by-the-wind sailors are small and blue. Are they common in Belize?

  • sure looks like one. id say yes.

  • off of glover's reef, belize. it's a coral atoll about 30 miles off the coast. neat place.

  • Looks like a man o' war. By the wind sailors don't have the pink coloring. Where did you get the footage?
