Wow ROPdude, Dennis Kucinich is a "real democrat", and is for Unions!
We need a unionized work force with good pay and benefits,,and a not for profit health care system for all Americans who can not afford health care! Peace!
Quick lesson in American economic history: those who achieve in America understand you need to sacrifce, learn how to use money, keep educating yourself, and above all stay focused toward your goal.
Do surgeons, lawyers have unions? Is Wall Street unionized?
Does Bill Gates belong to a union? Robert Rodroguez & George Lucas LEFT their respective unions, yet Hollywood is constantly begging them to make movies for thier studios.
Okay, the fact that you actually called me a free market neocon, and believe that unions actually have a thing to do with the standard of living in this country tells me all I need to know about you.
Good god, I'm sorry your parents raised you this way.
Bush has been redistributing the wealth upward for 7 years now and he has practically bankrupted the country in the process.
You old school propaganda is illogical. Investing in people will build a stronger country and economy. The idea that we have to exploit people to build wealth is not only outdated it is also immoral.

Dennis Kucinich is advocating a not for profit health care system.
The problem is the 100's of billions of dollars of profits going to insurance companies and hmo's. That money should be used for actual health care.
If anyone actually thinks this country can't afford national health care just think of the 100's billions being spend on Iraq, a complete waste of money!
Arguing with neocons who think money should be used for war not people is pointless.
Here in lies the complete perversion of logic: re-distributing wealth in a free market economy. Even amature economists would shudder at your post.
We're borrowing almost $2 million a day to fund the Iraq war.
National healthcare?
Forget it. Since no one will change your mind with reason and logic, I'll just state that it's thinking like this that will eventually bankrupt our country.
I enjoy saying I told you so as much as anyone else.
One last comment ROPdude, on the "they'll be socialising everything else next" - presumably you'd like to see the opposite happen and schools privatised next? As one doctor said in "Sicko", "I wouldn't want to work in a system where we turned away people needing treatment because they were too poor or had the wrong insurance"
Don't get me started on that transparently biased diatribe. I know you guys love Moore, but take my word for it: he does anything but tell you the whole story.
By the way: there's tons of proof that we Americans have been dumbed down BECAUSE of our public school systems.
I know he doesn't tell the whole story, but I thought that his conclusions were less under dispute in this one than previous films. F911 was a political diatribe, but Sicko is much more about ethics and morality where I think there is much more common ground whichever party you follow. Have you watched the film? It is unethical to have the decision as to what treatment your dying family member gets made by a loss assessor who gets bonuses for declining that treatment.
Geologism1 I'm from the good old USA just like you. But I have been around enough to know that England has had SOCIALIZED MEDICINE since the 1940's and it would be politicial suicide for a politician in the UK to advocate getting rid of their socialized health care system.
Getting rid of socialized medecine in the UK would be like wanting to get rid of our interstate highway system it just would not fly.
Kudos to DK for nabbing a good-looking wife that is willing to participate enthusiastically for his cause. Most men are not so lucky to have a wife so jazzed up about what they do. Unfortunately, it's neobolshevism on the road to a new-world socialist order, but thankfully, we can still legally express our political viewpoints under the First Amendment.
Most unfortunately for us, most Americans (especially today's democrats) don't understand how the system of economic liberty in this country gave us the standard of living we enjoy / take for granted. The fact that we're even talking about socializing medicine is sound proof.
Socialized medicine exists over most of the civilized world through extraordinary taxation, and it does not perform very well. Social welfare states tax up to 50 to 60% of income to provide health care, and other programs, to citizens.
Socialized medicine is the carrot dangling in front of the nose of politically ignorant potential voters to persuade them to elect socialists. Socialist political power is proportional to the extent that the population becomes dependent on the government.
3) Both socialists and non-socialists support the socialised healthcare system here. Any party that suggested dismantling it would lose votes.
Corporate greed and political corruption provides americans with a system that incentivises those responsible for determining treatments to decline those treatments, while those same citizens spend more on healthcare than most other countries.
Since it's been institutionalized in your country for decades, of course no one will dismantle it. You all depend on it, it's become your countries norm.
You do however pay much more in taxes, don't have the same amount of choices, nor the same kind of freedom to choose what type of care to get.
I completely agree about the corruption, but there's a reason people come from all over the world to get treatment in the U.S.
"You all depend on it, it's become your countries norm." - and families having to get out a begging bowl to get their loved ones life-saving treatment for cancer is your country's norm. The only reason this is the case is that enough people have been persuaded that systems that work all over the rest of the world (in poorer countries than the US) would never work in the US. Why?
Whew! Thanks for your response here, mi1house. It's all very cool.
Truth be told, "getting out the begging bowl" actually isn't this countries norm.
It limits our choices, our freedoms to choose. Our system certainly needs fixing, but at the same time has just as many innovations in medicine than anywhere around the world.
I agree that lots of medical innovations come out of America, but is no thanks to the insurance companies. As long as patents are protected drugs and medical technology companies have an incentive to innovate, and a socialised healthcare system doesn't extend to governments owning pharma companies (although being a near-monopsony helps to keep downward pressure on prices against companies in a powerful position)
Re-establishing a doctor / patient relationship gives the option for both parties to negotiate the cost of any given treatment. Plus, will stand as competition for the corporations that have inflated prices so much.
And if we Socialze medicine in the US, that's 15% of the entire economy. Once that door is opened, surely more "free socialized things" will follow.
People are too lazy or just down right incompetant to function in a free society. Or, the democrats try to guilt us into believing we should depend on government "for the greater good."
Forget individual rights, achievement, or responsibility. That's exactly where this country is going due in large part to this kind of nonsense.
And we do pay more taxes than you, but less of our National Income is spent on healthcare. There are no insurance companies involved in the NHS, so no profit motive and every penny goes towards healthcare. People can still choose to get insurance for better healthcare (the system isn't perfect) but most find the NHS sufficient.
Every fiscal year, billions, not millions, but billions of tax dollars go undeclared. Meaning we pay our taxes, the money goes into the government... then disappears. Literally.
No one in their right mind would depend on our government to sustain the medical bill for 300 million people year after year, decade after decade.
Agreed on the first paragraph. On the second one, the more people you're covering, the more are paying into the system. I'd trust the government to allocate the health budget more than insurance companies. Especially if you can get the diagnosis and treatment decisions made independently of those paying the bill.
If the poor can't pay for insurance, they're certainly not going to able to pay into the system (at least as much). That could cause even more resentment between us, as the working men & women, and the wealthy have to support them even more.
I'm still hoping for the third option I mentioned in the first reply.
But if it comes out of general taxation then everyone pays if they earn. I don't resent people getting healthcare whether or not thay've paid in, as long as the pot is big enough to cover everyone. Look at the individual cases in Sicko and say which one's you'd turn away from the hospital?
I understand where you're coming from, of course this country is a lot bigger than yours; its much more complicated in keeping the pot big enough for everyone.
Most States already have state-funded healthcare. Here in California (los angeles county), about $7.5 billion ends up paying for illegal immigrants.
"Socialized medicine exists over most of the civilized world through extraordinary taxation, and it does not perform very well" - please explain how it doesn't work very well? Particularly, how its worse than a system that sees hundreds of thousands being refused vital treatments in the interests of profit?
What has happened in America is actually a subtle form of fascism: Gov't in bed with health insurance companies. I'm not sure where you've read that "hundreds of thousands" are being refused; that's way blown out of porportion.
Generally, in socialized medicine, the standards are lower, less choices, availibilty. Some countries do it better than others. The best way is have a personal doctor patient relationship.
I made that estimate myself. I've no idea how accurate it is, and I'm not that bothered. If it's 1000 people, that's still a worry. If 50m Americans have no insurance, and lots of others have their treatments declined, then healthcare is likely to be underprovided. My American in-laws have worse teeth than me because they don't go to the dentist as often as they should because they couldn't afford to.
Sorry to hear that. Again, I agree that the health insurance companies are dispicable. This country's government was designed to repair itself: we need to return to the way it was before things changed in the 1970's, not implement a system that warps our individual rights.
But unfortunately the ethic of self-reliance has been lost on us as Americans.
We'll see what happens in 2008. I just want Bush out!
The media has already elected Clinton, and she is not much better than Bush. She will just continue his wars and keep redistributing the wealth to the rich people who put her in office. Just like Bush!
No Geologism1, he's not from the mountains, are you? Just pretty popular with beautiful women. I know, I'm very jealous too, but its best just to get over it and see him for the great candidate he is. Maybe it's the maturity that makes him so appealing?
What do mountains, beautiful women, or jealousy have to do with my question? I'm not sure if you are even responding to my comment. I am just curious as to how his daughter has a British accent.
Geologism1,if people don't react well the first time you tell a joke, repeating it isn't as good an idea as it might seem to you. It isn't funny to keep pretending you know nothing about presidential candidates you watch on Youtube and so just have to keep asserting foolish misconceptions about their families.
Actually, Miss Manners, I honestly mistook DK's wife for his daughter, and when I looked up DK on Wikipedia, I realized I was mistaken. Dutchoven, I appreciate your brief objective reply. Thank you.
queny, please excuse me if I need sensitivity training. Can you give me a referral?
Completely plausible explanation Geologism1. You realized as you say only when you looked up the Wiki. That being the case, I of course must apologise unreservedly.

I like Ron's strength better and campaign abilities. I like Dennis personality! I wish his campaign had more momentum. May be he should do a 50 state tour to raise visability and chatter. I don't know why the other lesser known candidates has not used this tactic.
This weeks, Kucinich Campaign update 10-22-07, has Dennis Kucinich meeting with musician, Michael Franti, and has Dennis Kucinich, as I have heard him say it before, with Michael Franti, the musician who wrote the song, 'Bomb the World', repeat the famous line from that song, "You can Bomb the World to pieces, but you can't Bomb it into PEACE".
By the way I have Posted a video of that song, Bomb the World, sung by Michael Franti, in the Video Response Section.
XD Kucinich rules! If he can bring out tea for Colbert from his citizen coat just imagine what he can do with a president one.
I want a copy of that book. It would be so useful for american history courses plus it makes good conversation piece (Every bit helps.) especially with Kucinich signature in it because people would want to ask questions about him. Knowledge is improtant, especially this coming election.
Hmmmm.....I think I like this guy slightly better than Ron Paul. I gave money to Ron Paul but I fear his "Freedoms" will lead to more corporate abuse. You see the playing field IS NOT FAIR RIGHT NOW. Heavy regulations need to be re-instated to get back to pre-Reagan anti-trust laws. Less regulation will only mean more Wal-Marts....Sorry Paulies!
What's wrong with Wal-Mart? :( I don't know about other areas of the state... I do know the Wal-mart around here actually is beneficial for us. We still have mom and pop stores. Sorry no matter how big and strong Wal-mart will get people will always go to the mall,Home Depot, family owned 99 cent stores, the man who sells churros, drinks, fruit and flowers
Their are exceptions but the vast majority of Wal-Marts decimate local businesses. They are predators in their appetite for prime real estate and pay their workers crap. It's emblematic of a business model that has been adopted by most major corporations. This results in slave labor in both America and China!
WAY WRONG!! Ron Paul doesn't even come close to Dennis! WHY do you Ron Paul supporters seem to think Kucinich supporters would switch to Paul?? Other than the war in Iraq, they are almost completely opposite on all the issues! Ron Paul is a Liber-publican!
Switch to R.P.?Let me think...R.P. is against U.S. military adventuring around the globe. That's a good thing...Unfortunately,he is also a religious fundamentalist that yearns for the dominance of "christian" rights and "values" over the rights of the state and anyone that doesn't buy into his vision of the world.Hmmmm...Swithch to R.P.?...I don't think so.
Happy Birthday, Elizabeth Kucinich! Best wishes, and next year on your birthday, may you be less than THREE MONTHS away from beginning your tenancy in the White House as First Lady.
It took me awhile to find it, and I'd ALREADY contributed! It's a tab at the top of the page, next to the "Dennis YouTube Group" tab. They HID it from us, right in plain sight! Lol! Thanks for contributing, if you have any money left in this economy!
Happy Birthday Elizabeth! May peace, love, happiness, compassion, respect, and all good things be with you today and everyday! :-)
Go Dennis!! We NEED you to take us through this upcoming evolution of consciousness! Change the thinking of all and help to unite the world with Peace and Love.
This man, Congressman Dennis Kucinich, supported by, Stephen Colbert, Michael Franti; and most importantly, 'YOU', you who know, know that he is the one who is able to be a President, unifying the people of America, and the World.
You know this life is meant for, Life Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness; which Presidential Candidate do you know that most truly wants that to happen?
Dennis, a visionary of a governance, of by and for the people!
This is a great idea. If the media is afraid to cover Dennis, just start your own program.
Also, happy birthday, Elizabeth! Maybe you can run for office yourself one day. We'll work on allowing foreign-born citizens to become president in the meanwhile...
Good job putting together the concert footage so quickly. Interesting choice not to post the San Mateo straw poll results. I thought it notable that Kucinich came in second, in front of Hillary and Obama, even if Edwards came in first. I still think the opening pan feels a bit long, though it's appropriate to have a title card of some sort. I also still think these shows would benefit from lower thirds.
We need a President like Dennis Kucinich. He knows what our rights are, and how they have been violated by Bush. Dennis will get us out of IRAQ and is for a single payer healthcare plan. You do not hear statements like these from other Democratic canidates
where's the site? lol

Arguing with neocons who think money should be used for war not people is pointless.
nowellian 4 years ago
Here in lies the complete perversion of logic: re-distributing wealth in a free market economy. Even amature economists would shudder at your post.
We're borrowing almost $2 million a day to fund the Iraq war.
National healthcare?
Forget it. Since no one will change your mind with reason and logic, I'll just state that it's thinking like this that will eventually bankrupt our country.
I enjoy saying I told you so as much as anyone else.
ROPdude 4 years ago
One last comment ROPdude, on the "they'll be socialising everything else next" - presumably you'd like to see the opposite happen and schools privatised next? As one doctor said in "Sicko", "I wouldn't want to work in a system where we turned away people needing treatment because they were too poor or had the wrong insurance"
mi1h0use 4 years ago
*laughs*
Don't get me started on that transparently biased diatribe. I know you guys love Moore, but take my word for it: he does anything but tell you the whole story.
By the way: there's tons of proof that we Americans have been dumbed down BECAUSE of our public school systems.
ROPdude 4 years ago
I know he doesn't tell the whole story, but I thought that his conclusions were less under dispute in this one than previous films. F911 was a political diatribe, but Sicko is much more about ethics and morality where I think there is much more common ground whichever party you follow. Have you watched the film? It is unethical to have the decision as to what treatment your dying family member gets made by a loss assessor who gets bonuses for declining that treatment.
mi1h0use 4 years ago
You might not believe this, but I live and work in Hollywood. The Weinstein Company is one of my clients, and I help put the Sicko DVD together.
Anyway, yes I know that movie like the back of my hand!
ROPdude 4 years ago
Geologism1 I'm from the good old USA just like you. But I have been around enough to know that England has had SOCIALIZED MEDICINE since the 1940's and it would be politicial suicide for a politician in the UK to advocate getting rid of their socialized health care system.
Getting rid of socialized medecine in the UK would be like wanting to get rid of our interstate highway system it just would not fly.
Vote Kucinich!
nowellian 4 years ago
...and I apologize if I offended anyone.
May God bless America!
Geologism1 4 years ago
Most unfortunately for us, most Americans (especially today's democrats) don't understand how the system of economic liberty in this country gave us the standard of living we enjoy / take for granted. The fact that we're even talking about socializing medicine is sound proof.
Oh well. America was fun while it lasted.
ROPdude 4 years ago
Socialized medicine works all over the civilized world, ROPdude, why shouldn't it work in the US?
mi1h0use 4 years ago 2
Socialized medicine exists over most of the civilized world through extraordinary taxation, and it does not perform very well. Social welfare states tax up to 50 to 60% of income to provide health care, and other programs, to citizens.
Socialized medicine is the carrot dangling in front of the nose of politically ignorant potential voters to persuade them to elect socialists. Socialist political power is proportional to the extent that the population becomes dependent on the government.
Geologism1 4 years ago
1) I don't pay 50% taxes for my healthcare.
2) I don't pay anything when I go to hospital.
3) Both socialists and non-socialists support the socialised healthcare system here. Any party that suggested dismantling it would lose votes.
Corporate greed and political corruption provides americans with a system that incentivises those responsible for determining treatments to decline those treatments, while those same citizens spend more on healthcare than most other countries.
mi1h0use 4 years ago 2
Since it's been institutionalized in your country for decades, of course no one will dismantle it. You all depend on it, it's become your countries norm.
You do however pay much more in taxes, don't have the same amount of choices, nor the same kind of freedom to choose what type of care to get.
I completely agree about the corruption, but there's a reason people come from all over the world to get treatment in the U.S.
ROPdude 4 years ago
"You all depend on it, it's become your countries norm." - and families having to get out a begging bowl to get their loved ones life-saving treatment for cancer is your country's norm. The only reason this is the case is that enough people have been persuaded that systems that work all over the rest of the world (in poorer countries than the US) would never work in the US. Why?
mi1h0use 4 years ago
ROPdude 4 years ago
I agree that lots of medical innovations come out of America, but is no thanks to the insurance companies. As long as patents are protected drugs and medical technology companies have an incentive to innovate, and a socialised healthcare system doesn't extend to governments owning pharma companies (although being a near-monopsony helps to keep downward pressure on prices against companies in a powerful position)
mi1h0use 4 years ago
I completely agree about health insurance companies. I'd like to see them disappear, myself.
They're like "the middle man"; and these days doctors don't know if they're going to get paid & patients don't know if they'll be covered.
I'd like to see us have a third option, and independant savings account that we can keep for our own use on these matters.
I'm dreaming though; Americans don't like all of that responsibility.
ROPdude 4 years ago
That's Ron Paul's suggestion. What I don't get is what happens if your medical savings plan doesn't cover the treatment you need?
mi1h0use 4 years ago
Re-establishing a doctor / patient relationship gives the option for both parties to negotiate the cost of any given treatment. Plus, will stand as competition for the corporations that have inflated prices so much.
ROPdude 4 years ago
And if we Socialze medicine in the US, that's 15% of the entire economy. Once that door is opened, surely more "free socialized things" will follow.
People are too lazy or just down right incompetant to function in a free society. Or, the democrats try to guilt us into believing we should depend on government "for the greater good."
Forget individual rights, achievement, or responsibility. That's exactly where this country is going due in large part to this kind of nonsense.
ROPdude 4 years ago
And we do pay more taxes than you, but less of our National Income is spent on healthcare. There are no insurance companies involved in the NHS, so no profit motive and every penny goes towards healthcare. People can still choose to get insurance for better healthcare (the system isn't perfect) but most find the NHS sufficient.
mi1h0use 4 years ago
Every fiscal year, billions, not millions, but billions of tax dollars go undeclared. Meaning we pay our taxes, the money goes into the government... then disappears. Literally.
No one in their right mind would depend on our government to sustain the medical bill for 300 million people year after year, decade after decade.
ROPdude 4 years ago
Agreed on the first paragraph. On the second one, the more people you're covering, the more are paying into the system. I'd trust the government to allocate the health budget more than insurance companies. Especially if you can get the diagnosis and treatment decisions made independently of those paying the bill.
mi1h0use 4 years ago
If the poor can't pay for insurance, they're certainly not going to able to pay into the system (at least as much). That could cause even more resentment between us, as the working men & women, and the wealthy have to support them even more.
I'm still hoping for the third option I mentioned in the first reply.
ROPdude 4 years ago
But if it comes out of general taxation then everyone pays if they earn. I don't resent people getting healthcare whether or not thay've paid in, as long as the pot is big enough to cover everyone. Look at the individual cases in Sicko and say which one's you'd turn away from the hospital?
mi1h0use 4 years ago
I understand where you're coming from, of course this country is a lot bigger than yours; its much more complicated in keeping the pot big enough for everyone.
Most States already have state-funded healthcare. Here in California (los angeles county), about $7.5 billion ends up paying for illegal immigrants.
ROPdude 4 years ago
"Socialized medicine exists over most of the civilized world through extraordinary taxation, and it does not perform very well" - please explain how it doesn't work very well? Particularly, how its worse than a system that sees hundreds of thousands being refused vital treatments in the interests of profit?
mi1h0use 4 years ago
What has happened in America is actually a subtle form of fascism: Gov't in bed with health insurance companies. I'm not sure where you've read that "hundreds of thousands" are being refused; that's way blown out of porportion.
Generally, in socialized medicine, the standards are lower, less choices, availibilty. Some countries do it better than others. The best way is have a personal doctor patient relationship.
ROPdude 4 years ago
I made that estimate myself. I've no idea how accurate it is, and I'm not that bothered. If it's 1000 people, that's still a worry. If 50m Americans have no insurance, and lots of others have their treatments declined, then healthcare is likely to be underprovided. My American in-laws have worse teeth than me because they don't go to the dentist as often as they should because they couldn't afford to.
mi1h0use 4 years ago
Sorry to hear that. Again, I agree that the health insurance companies are dispicable. This country's government was designed to repair itself: we need to return to the way it was before things changed in the 1970's, not implement a system that warps our individual rights.
But unfortunately the ethic of self-reliance has been lost on us as Americans.
We'll see what happens in 2008. I just want Bush out!

Geologism1,if people don't react well the first time you tell a joke, repeating it isn't as good an idea as it might seem to you. Actually, Miss Manners, I honestly mistook DK's wife for his daughter, and when I looked up DK on Wikipedia, I realized I was mistaken. Dutchoven, I appreciate your brief objective reply. Thank you.

By the way I have Posted a video of that song, Bomb the World, sung by Michael Franti, in the Video Response Section.

JuciShockwave 4 years ago
and the list can go on and on. The place people really have to worry about is eBay. EBay will pwned everyone at the end for them even lower prices.
JuciShockwave 4 years ago
Nothing to worry about. Most people want to feel and touch an expensive product before purchasing.
beatbaker 4 years ago
Their are exceptions but the vast majority of Wal-Marts decimate local businesses. They are predators in their appetite for prime real estate and pay their workers crap. It's emblematic of a business model that has been adopted by most major corporations. This results in slave labor in both America and China!
