children need human rights laws passing before they are killed or maimed, its the same world wide, kids cant speak for themselves so are easy targets for abuse, depending on age or disability how they going to tell, if they can talk they are threatened by the bullies to keep quiet, there should be specific very harsh laws for anyone who commits a crime against children, there is no excuse that can justify abuse of any kind not even restraining a child .

omg my heart bleeds for his family...what a beautiful child he was...my 11 yr old grandson is austic and I always worry about him getting abused in the public school he attends..You certainly cant educate people that still live in the ice age and think everything should be solved with violence..these people should of known better then anyone how autistic children are and how to treat them.they're no less a human being for having autism, they're beautiful and more perfect than us in my eyes..

OMG I am crying...poor little boy.  I think he had a syndrome, I have seen a face like that before...perhaps Russell-Silvers disorder? If it was RSD then their withholding food could have damaged him further. Poor child!! Monsters...I am hoping that the school is now closed. I would imagine it is (??)

That is so sad I cryed my head off. Who would do that to a little boy who has a disability and has so many things to offer the world. I don't understand why some one wud kill him because he had a disability of why they wud abuse him like that? It just shows that the devil is taking over the world. @shortiilove212 In some schools they do restraints but the staff need to be trained and have a certificate in training but aparently this people who killed this boy did'nt have enough training.

i have an autistic child & when i saw this it made me cry alot it's sad to know that you send your child to a special school thinking it's best for them & things like this happen...i think 5-15yrs is little for taking away an innocent childs life!

That's Terrible! Those schools for the disabled need to be inspected reguarlly to make sure these things don't happen. I hate how cases like these get over looked.

This is horrible! His parents sent him to these schools because he needed special care. The staff wouldn/t even give him that, they just killed him for no reasnon at all. At least nobody can hurt him anymore.

they could have at least tagged other felonies to the manslaughter e.g. child abuse etc. to prolong the sentence.

5-15 years for taking a life (the act of which was the culmination of prolonged abuse) is NOT justice served. the perpetrator needs to serve a sentence which is equivalent to third degree murder, starting at 25 years. if it was proven that he systematically abused the victim then the judge should add onto that accordingly.

those people at the school knew exactly what they were doing they simply decided they were going to abuse the easiest target a handicap child who cannot defend himself, it's discusting yet true and worse yet others work with the abusers to hide what they are doing and little Jonathan payed the price. as i write this my son who is 3 and has cerebral palsy sleeps in the next room. i pray for you guys im am so sorry your angel was so cruley taken from you..may God be with you.

I am so sorry, this must be beyond the words of grief or pain for the parents. Conditions for kids with a need for care need to improve FAST; each life this costs or even damages is one too many.

being autistic I feel more than most I felt all my life I understood special needs children I knew they wanted love even if they couldn't show it the same way as others they didn't know how. I always hurt 4 them I was badly bullied didn't fight 4 myself but I stood up 4 my friends I always told others stop they want what we want they hurt as u hurt

Watching this is painful. Concealing inhumane treatment, sadly is still widespread within most facilities. Most people are not aware of the horrible abuses. Can't understand the evil that still goes on and all in the name of caring. It's unbelievable that there is any tolerance for this kind of abuse, yet there is and these people who are to be the caregivers are protected. When will it stop.

Sadly things are NOT better for the disabled now. Disabled children, especially are abused daily in facilities and public schools. There is a MENTALITY that needs to change. Yes, the death penalty would be some retribution but rarely do these abusers even get reprimanded.

How very sad....such an obviously happy little boy with a very loving family. Not very long ago I was told "things are MUCH better for children with mental disabilities today."  Stories like this show that is not necessarily the case. There may have been some improvements......but there are still MANY that need to be made.
