  • Yeah... I'm always creepin' round some gravestones when it's full moon... NOT! That's so cliché. But you cannot stop people talking shit or making themselves (and others) look ridiculous.

  • David it a great guy!

  • Not Fading Away!!!

  • That Sean Cronin guy's style looks cool! I think my brother would good with his hair grown long and with those receded hair sides instead of his usual skinhead look......

  • LOL AHAHAH This is SO FUNNY!!! Do they even know what the story of Dracula and it's true roots?!? Aha I love media fails and the people who exaturate 'goth' in the media. . . :D . . . too funny.

  • Yeah, I remember Wilf and his girlfriend doing the cloakroom at the Electric Ballroom too, and Screaming (Shaun) walking about the Ballroom with his walking stick :-)

  • These goths were far too over dramatic. I wish they'd picked someone else to interview.

  • I like sisters, bauhaus, nephilim and all that. BUT I don't see why goth rock is called its own style of music. It's just post-punk and new wave bands with a certain fashion statement, right?

  • @MithrasAtDusk

    exactly

  • The Wilfred guy and his witchy girlfriend used to do the cloakroom in the Electric Ballroom on Friday nights and if im not mistaken she used to read Tarot in the market (long gone now) near Victoria station. She frightened the fuck me !

He looked like an oldy worldy undertaker and she just looked like garde A Witch :)

  • Wow, it was just as much of a joke then as it is now. The Damned were better when they were punk.

  • My area of where I live REALLY needs a gothic rock group, even a fledgling one! I'm tired of gangster-rappers, R&B fans, pop fans, emos, scenesters, skaters, and hipsters!>_<

  • I hate it when people confuss Goth/Gothic with Emo or Heavy Metal. Heavy Metal is alright, but Emo music is just a dipressing ear sore in my opinion..........

  • @Jakegothicsnake

Seems like I read somewhere that what people now call emo acutally started out as some kind of sub-genre of easy listening back in the eighties. Why don;t I research it more? Becasue its just not that interesting-lol.

  • @ThornUvDaath777 I will be honest, it would make me very happy to see people no longer dressing in tight jeans, hoodies with horizontal stripes with black and either a neon or a dull color, tigh v neck shirts, fedoras, and beanies over moptop sideswiped hair.......To me, that is not the image of a rocker.

  • Anyone know where Wilf is these days?

  • It was 1987 & filmed by ITV for their London Plus evening show.

  • Finally found this!! Thanks for posting it!!

  • OH FUCK! I forgot i did this! I was very drunk!

  • ROFLMAO at this lithping guy at 4:50!

  • medienhuren.

  • classic...

  • This is real goth not metal head's.

  • this is a very good reference, i keep coming back to it. thank you allfear.

  • riiiiight

  • @darksyfe Appreciated greatly. :)

  • I used to be into the whole goth/darkwave/deathrock thing but man this reminds me of Goth Talk ... that one guy talks with a lisp and the vampire queen is just too fuckin funny.. this I'm sorry to say is hilarious LOL...

  • wow that was 2nd ugliest thing iv seen

  • goth and loving it too btw any guys want a gothic date

  • God, I really wish more people dressed like this and were gothic rock enthusiasts in my neck of the woods...I live in the Coachella Valley and it's basically the heart of Gangsta and Emo/Scene in all of southern California!

  • @Jakegothicsnake

Hajajaja I know exactly what you mean.

Im in SoCal area too, I see that too.

  • My friend, you really need to brush up HEAVILY on your goth research.....

  • @artmonkid II have been a goth for 20 years. I can assure you that no devil was what inspired me. Mostly it was the isolation of my teenage years and being raised in a Christian household. The mythical devil doesnt even come into the equation. How many goths do you know really? How many real goth songs actually reference the devil as not a metaphor?

  • @twilightsol it's hard to find ANY bands that do not use the devil merely as a metaphor. Mainly because actually believing in the devil is quite silly.

  • i am totally into the goth lifestyle btw any guys want to meet up with a goth girl like me

  • Love the Trad Goth style baby! WHOO!

  • why it seems a bit poser to me?!

they are trying to much sometimes!....like they only want to scare people:p

    I know it's old,so maybe that's why it's strange for me!

  • @CarpeNoctemZise I have the same feeling. I like gothic for it's beauty ... and for some thoughtful part. But I like the intellectual parts, not the rebel parts.

  • @CarpeNoctemZise Its really not about fear. either you understand it or you dont. Its a form of living art.

  • @twilightsol generally I agree,i was just talking about those guy:)

  • whats with the black metal being cut off?

  • Black Metal is Mostley band in the uk on Tv and Raido that is its to controversial lol

Metal 4 Life i wish RnB was Baned

  • i wish it was too...lol

  • That dude on that right at 4:15 to 4:20 looks alot like both Robert SMith and SImon Gallup of The Cure!:)

  • Is that Jonny Slut at (4:15)dancing??!!

  • I thought so too ^_^

  • 1987! The true goth scene was way over by then. This is so lame. It was meant to scare the same parents who were afraid of The Sex Pistols 10 years earlier.

  • this is such a trip, i love it. tooo funny

  • hahaha thats hilarious no wonder the actual goth bands distance themselves from the term

just imagining carl mccoy in a cape shouting "blarrrrrg im a vampire!"

there is another hilarious cnn video somewhere, where a black clad teenager proclaims that she was assaulted by an older man with a knife in a cemetery and since then has been a member of the undead.

ha! kids these days, dont know their born(literally)

the media has soiled their minds

  • "kids these days, dont know their born(literally)

the media has soiled their minds "

I wouldn't necessarily call these people "kids these days".

  • Ahh, when Gothic was still new, and the media still ignorant enough not to know what the fuck it was all about, so they go and ask a gay as fuck vampire.

"Well, you see this is a Vampire, aghhh!" lol.

  • @ChicagoMixes

    No, no, its "Accchhhhh!" :)

  • if u guys didnt realize "goth" and "gothic" is different lol

  • how so? Please explain.

  • well goth is of course the style that grew from the 80s but before that there was only gothic witch was old castle sorta ruins and stuff but 80s came then they cut the ic and called the music culture goth

  • oh I see, that's very useful information for this thesis I am making about different ocial grooups, thank you very much. I only have one more question left... what about Gotham City?

  • ahahah

  • @disgorge1234

    No it's not...

Though goth is A Germanic tribe an gothic is A style of Midevil cathedral an Victorian Architecture both goth an gothic is the same sub culture an it refers to the germanic tribe an the kind of Architecture...

When Talking About Sub Cultures goth is this short for gothic.

  • as far as i know it's still alive :) this culture :P

  • I think for the most part the true side of it as died out a lot, but like you said it's still alive but I think more hidden.

  • Sean Cronin was also the lead sing of the band The Marionettes!

  • "WELCOME... TO THE HOUSE... OF SHADOWS."

And to think, this was the time of Bauhaus and Sisters of Mercy. :P

  • What is the name of the band in this video?

  • Another huge problem I see with the goth scene of today is all this horrid elitism. To those people who are so discriminate as to what is and isn't goth, get this: Goth has grown! Its branched out into many, many subcultures, and it still growing. Some believe that its merged with the Industrial/Rivethead culture as well, even though the two had quite separate starts. I say, as long as you have a penchant for the weird and slightly (or very) creepy, welcome.

  • This isn't true. The subcultures Goth supposedly branched out in actually have little to do with Goth. The musical genres that get wrongly associated with the Goth subculture are in no way descended from it. Industrial for instance precedes Goth by at least 10 years. Nobody has any right whatsoever to change what Goth means if the original subculture is still alive and well. We have plenty of new bands and plenty of young Goths who are into them. If your not one of them is your problem.

  • Completely missed the point and became exactly one of the people i was talking about.

  • No I didn't miss the point. You' re calling people who are aware of the true definition of Goth closeminded cause they don't throw every dark themed subculture on the Goth pile. While your average Metalhead or Cyber doesn't even want to be associated with Goth. Why can't you respect the individuality and independence of musical subcultures? Does everything have to be the same? Should we call donkey's rabbits from now. They also have long ears, not doing this would discrimination wouldn't it?

  • I understand your point alex but the truth is, gothic postpunks don't own the label goth or gothic, its been around far longer than the "pure pristine" genre you're talking about. Anything that is dark can technically be called gothic. The problem is that "true" goths need to come up with a more objective label for themselves than "true" or "real" if they want to distinguish themselves from emo's, metalheads, and trip hoppers.

  • Truly I agree.

Personally I hate being mistaken for a stupid metal head or emo, people come up to me talking about band I don't have a clue about..

I still listen to the old school goth/punk, so I have decided to go with the old school goth look from now on, I use to dress in the new stuff but screw that, I'm going old school.

  • Well don't to check out some new Goth stuff as well. Goth didn't change in Metal or Cyber after the 80s but it didn't dissapear either. I don't know if your familiar with bands like Cinema Strange, Eat Your Make-Up, Frank The Baptist, Scary Bitches, Bloody Dead & Sexy,...

  • I will still listen to the new stuff along with the old stuff, like I do now, I just want to go with the old school look a little more, mix it up a little.

  • @Scialpsychotics

"Personally I hate being mistaken for a stupid metal head or emo"

Thank you for your casual prejudice. As a metalhead, I hate being mistaken for a stupid goth.

  • I think thats really something to do with metalheads....since there are a lot of people who listen to stuff like gorgoroth, dimmu borgir, mayhem etc etc who think they are goth (and nothing even romotly gothic)

and get really pissed off if you tell them that they arnt.

Metal heads who know what they are talking about are usually pretty awesome tho.

  • goth 4 life ;)

  • AAAHAHA, I love it when goths lisp like that.

  • Why do they utilise the adjective "Gothic" for a noun "Goth"?

  • I love Goth so Fucking much because I am Gothic!

  • @da644 well I love being a Cat because I am Human - a silly argument...

  • Ahhh, that lisping goth is hilarious. <3

  • Comment removed

  • that is a very intelighent observation thank you.

  • That is a very good observation I'm with you 100%

  • I like it when people tell it like it is straight up. Kudos

  • Amen.

  • Your fucking right.

  • @DocktorHelena311 sadly true, growing seeing what you described (known as mallgoth's) almost made me derived into their wrong means, but once i discovered real goth I thought to myself this is the sound I've been waiting for my whole life, as if i already knew (I'm serious) as long as history is preserved this sub-culture will not die for a very long time, possibly centuries, life is all about moving forward but history repeats itself, and history will be remembered not by all but some :)

  • @killforfiend thast kinda what happened to me.

  • @ThornUvDaath777 yay! nobody is alone, i noticed something, either mallgoths grow out of if or they grow into it. I've seen mallgoth's turn either preppy, hipster, metalhead, ghetto, and few like you and I either turn goth, punk, cybergoth, rivethead, etc. my friend jessie used to like alternative rock, metal, pop-punk, and black metal and now he is a cyber-raver, I havn't seen other people evolve into goth tho, I would consider myself goth, punk, rivethead, new waver, beatnik :)

  • @killforfiend

I jsus do what comes natural, and since Gothic rock is one, if not my favorite musical genre, and the things I like can most easily fit under the embrella term of "goth", I identify as such when it suits me.

Don't get me wrong, I go to clubs once ina while and the scene can be pretty fun, but I'm not some kind of "goth father", lol.

  • The Marionettes RULZ!!

  • You dress and and hang around graveyards a rather stereotypical view...

  • the first of our KIND !!!!!!!!! :D

  • It's just something about the old gothic look, it's just awesome.

  • sweet......like me.........

  • Loved the Goths emerging up from behind the gravestones. Clever and funny. :)

  • The vampire though...not so much. :/

  • I absolutely love it too. Its over the top and silly, just the way I like it!

  • The beginning was so hokey pokey I loved it! If you know what the old scene was like youd understand and laugh and know. If not youll be lost in the shadows. haha

  • siouxsie sioux started this as in iouxsie and the banshees

  • I, myself, am Goth. But that first scene of them creeping from behind the tombstones had me cracking up. It's no wonder the mainstream make fun of us, with such cheesiness...

  • tongue in cheek. it's not meant to be taken seriously! the visual effect of the goths emerging from behind tombstones is quite clever actually.

  • I love the cheesiness, Even without the cheese they make fun of us :-p

  • nice video you got here. if this is how it started to get around then how did emo somehow get into being gothic? Emo should die a slow painful death

  • Haha I agree!

  • the marionettes suck they were a terrible band but the damned now there you have an excellent band and i hate that dudes lisp

  • I wonder what happened to that guy The Screaming Master. Wonder if any of these folks are bankers now?

  • No Sean is now an Actor, has even been in a Bond film!

  • WTF?! HaHa. That is great.

  • No wonder we got laughed at... *blushes*

  • man there just people who wish they were in the medievil days they think like there some black saint or something

  • The guy who does that hissing stuff is really gay lol.. I kinda think this is gay but I do love the clothes and Dave Vanian... lol.

  • Ahhhh, isn't Dave Vanian cute?

    "Get off my neck Dave!!!"

  • haha, that's funny.

    1. " The gothics" WTF?

    2. Strange gathering of freaky over dramatic actors?

    3. Strange floppy guy dancing music?

    4. Goths hate fitting with mainstream mainstream?

If only these reporters could see us now around 30 years later...Is this a real news report or a mocumentary?

  • it is a genuine news report from 1987!

  • It looks like a parody. Something on the Today show or SNL. It's so gay and sadly pathetic. I love Goth. But this is hilarious. Besides, The Damned were comic geniuses! Teally not goth, just funny as hell.

  • If it wasn't for David Vanian and his first wife there probably wouldn't be the 'Goth' phenomenon as we know it now.

  • I agree with you. As I have been a fan of The Damned since 1977. I still have their first record on "Stiff Records". I still think this documentary smacks of a funny mockumentary. Long live Dave "Transyl" Vanian!

  • This Is SPINAL TAP!!!

  • hee hee he's all lispy!! lol

  • Hilarious

  • This was a really good find! Dave looks so young here!

  • "...dracula...telephone!!"

  • yes the phone was ringing i remember that lol

  • @julieanddavid it was me who rang

  • A Goth with a lisp, lol

  • it was 87 laurie looks lovely and david looks smsahing

  • yes it was 1987, and laurie vanian helped set up Skin Two

  • She did? Thats cool!

  • I looked up full moons, 1987 is right :)

  • funny you mention 1985, its says this was filmed in 1987 but for me this looks like around 85

  • Now I may sound DAFT but WOT happened to Laurie Vanian... just curious there...

  • Laurie went back to NJ where she was from originally and I believe she goes back and forth to London too.

  • So I am assuming she and Dave didn't work out.. I find it interesting that she and Patricia Morrison look quite alot alike... hmmmm another american gal..

  • I noticed that a long time ago X3

But i didn't know she was american, Laurie, I mean.

Davles goes for the same kinda of girl I guess. X3

  • shes still artound

  • I couldn't quite place that clip in time 'til A-HA and Duran Duran were mentioned. Dave looks older that I'd have expected for something filmed around 1985. Pity he couldn't have been onscreen for longer, though. We fans don't see nearly enough of him!!

  • Thanks for that! It's nice to see Dave Vanian actually being interviewed for a change, rather than lurking in a dark corner, leaving the others to do the talking... :)

  • This News guy soundS Posh. Good video, Thanks for putting it up.
