In my opinion.. All Irish Prisons are like Holiday Camps.. I've been inside Wheatfield and Midlands.. The prisoners have Playstations and TV's in their cells.. I don't see anything wrong with that. They're in there to serve a sentence and not be brutally kicked to death like the American Prisons.
The Mountjoy kitchens are iso 9000 standard...less than 40% of city restaurants a re....Mountjoy prisoners are allowed to have playstations, they are given T.Vs and stereos and the governors fund will pay for Nike, Reebok and Addidas runners, Levis jeans and brand name track suits. The females get make up, perfume, designer clothing and in cell plasma screens....I'm a prison officer... I worked in both jails....what a load of bollox!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mr. Lonergan's holiday camp was the biggest methadone camp in Europe. You did not have to score the dropsy was just lobbed in. No one gave a shite!. He was the easiest laid back governor ever and doing time under him was ideal! Mobile phones, drugs, weights, music great athmosphere. He was a great dude altogether and I will miss him but I will especially miss the food and want to thank the great chefs who served us up such great food. Look forward to it when I am back there again.
