  • I've got two tickets to see Judy Collins in the Spiegeltent in Melbourne Australia, come March 2012.

My daughter had never even heard of her so she is in for something really special.

  • I just went to listen to this Joan Baez song and thought, that would suit Judy Collins' voice so well, and lo and behold, there's a duet...

  • @Orblingz: Not much of a duet. Collins is clearly in the lead now. She still has a great voice and plays guitar with vigor. Baez is pretty much over. I loved Baez but these are the facts. Collins also has kept up with her appearance whereas Baez looks exhausted. Nothing wrong with a little plastic surgery. I think Baez got it after this. I saw her at the Oscars recently and she looks years younger since this video.

  • Gives me goosebumps

  • Well at least you apologized. lol. Suggestion...buy a tripod then if you need to scratch or turn around or whatever, then you will still get the shot. OK? Another tip is to try to get close to one of the speakers and that will improve the audio.

  • @exenrontexas If one were to openly display a camera or recording device at any festival like this, that person would get the bum's rush by security. Discreet cell phone video is about as much as can be expected.

  • @apcesq Perhaps although I have seen so many cellphone camera used that they are obvious. The promoted doesn't care since the quality is so crappy that they will never be sold. I suspect that most artists DO care since it make them look bad. These two are at an age and there whole careers were made for different purposes. Back to video technique. I have seen bean backs and small monopods used to stabiize cameras to avoid the herky jerky effect.

  • @exenrontexas My basis for that comment was having attened Newport several times and other festivals.

  • oh...legends once again..it brings back good memories way back...and still they got the voice...blending each other and harmoniously supplement each other...

  • I just saw Joan last year and she sounded great. Not quite as powerful, but the clarity was still there. Great show. I think, in this case, she was just thrown by the unrehearsed nature of the duet. Collins still sounds incredible. She will be in concert at the Homer Center for the Arts in the spring of 2012. Check it out.

  • What happened to Joan' voice? Gawd!

  • TWO LEGENDS, NOW AND THEN AND FOREVER.

  • They are amazing together I would love to get a good recording of them doing this tune

  • What might Bobby think, hearing these wonderful voices singing words once dedicated to him- sadness, lost and sweet bitterness,? I`d like to know.

  • @bowedmyhead Actually there is an answer to this question, at least in part: Dylan declared he love the song and the fact he was the subject; he completed that the memories about those times still presses him (the movie "Joan Baez: How Sweet the Sound").

  • @twentyyearsafter Funnily (or possibly sadly), when Dylan mentioned the song to her, she told him it was about David Harris.

  • Joan has such a great smile...

  • fantastic, thanks for uploading, peace and light ;-j

  • When you become an icon, and for such worthy reasons as these women have, you have only to be in "sync" with yourself--and a lamentable few people are. I heard somewhere Judy Collins was Bill Clinton's favorite singer, understandable.I grew up in beautiful rural Kentucky where most people have very small, static minds, and these singers, along with Buffy Sainte-Marie and Joni Mitchell, made life more meaningful.

  • Damn!!!... Great Music is really dying... in 50 years this kind of music probably won't be play anymore... Oh those days were singers wrote songs using their blood as Ink and their skin as paper... Technology is slowly killing what was once a real talent.

  • @demoniosolitario Music isn't dying. Look up Cat Power. Jenny and Jonny. Bright Eyes. Gilian Welch. The whole indie folk scene beats the crap out of everyone of those mainstream retards. You'll love them all, trust me!

  • Those are 2 of the most most most talented.... An encounter of 2 stars..

  • I was there that day as well....shed a few tears for our collectively lost youth....

  • In 1976 my husband proposed to me playing the song "Diamonds and Rust". What a great memory for such a great song. Two great outstanding women!!!

  • Just saw Joan in concert in October. Can't get those high notes anymore but still incredible.

  • incredible thank you!

  • If angels exist... you're lookin' at 'em. Talent that mortal humans should not possess!

  • If I could organize a threesome with these two, I promise to keep my mouth shut!

  • What a priceless and golden moment...to see two of the great divas of folk music singing together!

  • This is a terrific version of Diamonds& Rust. Both ladies have beautiful voices. And they blend. I love this version.

  • Just Great! Thanks.

  • Hi fans,

Have you noticed how not a single comment dares to venture into the comparing ground?

This is the way forward people...

    Sophia.

  • Wow. What pro's. What prose.

  • Wow just wow.

  • I'm sorry for those seven who gave a thumbs down to this video, they obviously are missing some senses. 2 awesome talents.

  • Perfection. Remember, this is about Bob Dylan.

  • Wise Women make my heart sing

  • I love them both, they reach inside my heart and rip it open. My life is so empty without this music...what a gift to share with all of us.

  • wonderful,they sound great together

  • They sound VERY simillar, always did. When I think of Judy Collins, Joan Baez immediately comes to mind as well. Excellent.

  • Absolutely exquisite.

  • Think about this...Judy is 69 years old in this clip......talk about knowing how to get old with grace and style.

  • Wow...and they're how old?! I want to be like them in 20 years!

  • Unbelievable - I was loving every moment. I wish I'd been there. Joan Baez was my absolutely favorite when i was growing up. And, of course, Judy Collins is awesome too. Thank you for posting this.

  • Here's the ultimate folk trio..Joan Mitchell, Joan Baez, and Judy Collins.

  • Amazing! She has an amazing voice! :o

  • This is a piece of folk history - love you Joan.

    Saskia

  • They're not even in sync!

  • @atyler7353 it was a last minute decision for Joan and Judy to sing together-they didn't have time to practice.

    Saskia

  • @atyler7353 judge much? u perfect kabbalah matthewshepard

  • judys version isnt much different than the original and thats fine with me a classic

  • Soryy, but I just can't stand the way Judy Collins sings this song!

  • Knowing the background of the song an interpretation as a duett of women looks strange, or did I miss something wbout Dylan?

Nice voices for sure, Joan Baez I admire since many years.

  • i was here, anchored on a boat in the harbor... they were great !!

  • i love it when Judy goes all chatty kathy.

JC does a great job on this song but

I have never liked this song as a duet.

Judy & Joan on OH HAD A GOLDEN THREAD is the ultimate folk girl duet!

  • They have from gone Judy is still as good as ever

  • Judy's phrasing and vocals give an all new dimension to this beautiful song. Love the sound quality on this. Thanks for posting!

  • Two incredibly beautiful talented activist singers. Where have the flowers such as these gone? Thank u for posting this. It's legendary.

  • There was hardly a better era than the 60's-70's, where faith and ingenuity sang along with bravery and honesty.

Thanks for this video! it has brought many memories.

  • I am not saying that AJ isn't doing something good. You miss my point. AJ is the type of activism we have today, but it certainly doesn't come cllose to what JB did. JB spent many many nights in jail, saw her husband go to jail for the sake of their cause, etc...totally different types of people. And I miss those types of people. Now it is all very neat and tidy, while people are still being blown to bits.....same story, different era. That is my point, and it it true.

  • Makes me sad to see this. A great time period will end when these people leave the planet. We need some to replace them. We need a LOT more than Angelina Jolie adopting kids and speaking out once in a great while. We need a champion like Joan Baez....for this time period.

  • Joan Baez is in Angelina Jolie's mother's era. We all have different ways to reach out to the world. These are all activists of their time. Memories are made of diamond and rust ....

  • @ddviolinist There are many in the music and movie industry. Sean Penn, Bono. Join them in their humanitarian efforts. Also Michael Reynolds, an architect. See him on you tube/Garbage Warrior.

  • Thanks so much. Absolutely wonderful!

  • im going to play at newport and do a bob dylan lol

  • Gosh - Diamonds and Rust is one of my faves, well captured Friend.

  • Awesome duet of two folk-ladies with beautiful voices!

  • Joanie and Judy - two national treasurers.. Should Baez have to read the words to her classic song to Dylan's narcissim :) :)

  • @BlindBoyGrunt77

Hi there. I believe this is due to the fact that when you are used to singing and playing a song at the same time, the moment you try to sing it without the mechanism of the guitar playing, you need a support not to loose the words.. ..At least, I feel so as a singer (check my music out if you wish..(sophiasebastian)). It might also be emotion as this is a very special and unrehearsed event...

    Sophia.

  • Love seeing these two great iconic folk divas together as they are good friends as well as magnificent singers. While Judy's voice has maintained its purity and clarity almost intact, Joan's has aged considerably, though still beautiful. No matter, they are both head and shoulders above any other female singers of today. Thanks for sharing this event.

  • Thats AMAZING! My two favorite singers! Brilliant!

  • Yeah, they're both good friends... Judy Collins sang at Joan's wedding...

I just saw Joan at the Santa Monica Pier... I was soooo blessed.

  • Wow what a treat to hear two of the most beautiful voices in the history of folk music together singing one of my favorite songs of all time. Thanks so much

phoenixrisingftm for uploading this song for us to enjoy!

  • Thanks for sharing, they still have great voices, Diamonds and Rust Joan's song about Bob Dylan...

  • Folk music icons together -- what beautiful voices & such a hauntingly beautiful song.

  • I left before they sang this! I thought Joan had finished her bit. She was so wonderful!

  • I was in Newport that day. So beautiful!

  • Thanks!

  • This was incredible to see live. I was so lucky to be in Rhode Island for school this summer.

  • I was there, standing in the rain, with the foghorns blowing in the distance. It was an incredible, unforgettable moment and I thank you for giving me the chance to relive it.

  • What must have been good to be there. Very good sound and image, but above all, the magnificent Joan & Judy sang that song in 2009. Congratulations and thank you for my favorite song. Anentien, from Argentina

  • @marshauer I was there too. Wouldn't have missed it for the world.

  • so wonderful. thank you

  • Absolutely stunning

    Saskia

  • The Betty and Veronica of the 60's folk scene-- together once again. They sound and look great!
