  • So I'm not the only one that thinks this album was better than illmatic.. So grimey and greedy.. I have no words to describe the lyrical dominance this guy has over any other rapper ever.. Style, flow, criminal slang, story tellin.. It has everything. I'm starting to believe this to be the greatest hiphop album of alltime.. And it took 16yrs of listening and analyzin

  • @Ma08C bro ive felt like that since back then, this album is genius, its miles above reasonable doubt, i used to listen to all the classic albums back to to back in my walkman and anytime i put on it was written i knew the shit had a genius to it that nothing else could come close to, lyrically the shit is a masterpiece, visually its mind blowing, dude could tell a story better than any movie director in this century lol, pure brilliance

  • This album is such a classic record. Never gets old.

  • best rapper of all time, im so ready for his new album.

  • Love NAS

  • "Hey Me No Worry Hashes Keep My Eyes Chinese Roll Two Phillies Together Make Blunt Siamese" This Guy Gotta Be One Of Best To Grace The MIC

  • IT WAS WRITTEN was underrated even when it came out. Many critics doubted Nas' sophomore effort because it lacked the selfless and visceral street intentions of ILLMATIC. However, IWW is far superior lyrically and beat-wise.

And although the concept was geared towards NY gangsta, Nas never over-played his role and mostly spoke about the harshness of street life.

Take a moment to listen to this Lyrical "Goodfellas" epic from start to finish.

    Favs:

    1. SUSPECT

    2. I GAVE YOU POWER

    3. LIVE NIGGA RAP

  • @theFRACTALREIGN my favorite is (take it in blood)

  • Why tell?!!

  • Hey, me no worry, hashish keep my eyes Chinese

Rollin two Phillies together make blunts Siamese

Decipher my deceiver make him a believer

Bond is my life so I live by my word

  • I genuinely wonder if Nas is aware of how good the second verse is XD

  • Man the other night on Premier's radio show, a caller asked Premo for a trivia question- Premier said "name two songs off 'It Was Written" and the caller couldn't do it! My jaw was on the floor y'all!

  • it was written is just as good as illmatic heres why. this was pure street poetry while illmatic was just pure poetry. It was written has more songs 2. suspect, the set up, take it in blood, if i ruled the world, the message, and affirmative action can compete with illmatic on any day of the week.. pce

  • nas sucks

  • @somepass1 Are you stupid who's your fans dont tell me Lil Gayne please i think you need to commit a suicide.

  • @GoldenHipHop4Eva ill catch lil gayne slippen and nas

and ill cock slap the teeth ou your mouth trick

  • @somepass1 Fucking internet thug do you think that you are cool when i see you face to face i'll fuck you. Why you're hatin on Nas because Pac had a beef with Nas don't joke with me please. They made up before Pac ''died''. Anyways Pac wouldn't be glad that you said that and do you think that you're a Pac fan more than me? Now im wearing i Pac T-Shirt and he's straight lookin' at the screen what do you have to say now? I have 2pac wallpapers and everything go to the park and rebirth yourself!

  • @somepass1 you the dumbest nigggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggaa.

  • dont get crazy, NOTHING was and will ever be better than Illmatic. It was Written is still an amazing album with great tracks, but Illmatic is just on a whole new level!

  • @phonebookmr

how? it was written is better lyrically and has more topics and deeper subject matter. people just say illmatic's his best album because everybody else does.

  • @RelaxednCaIm people say illmatic is his best album because it is....

  • yeh nas is one of the greats better lyricaly then any of these new whack ass rappers like waka or gucci mane and wiz khalifa

  • i love this track God son killed it

  • Wow nas literally just blows me away his flow and lyrics are so amazing its unbelievable how his music makes me feel, so mellow makes me just nod my head and how beautiful his words come together. His vocabulary skills are off the charts he puts it to good use and manages to rhyme like a beast at the same time. I dont care what anybody says the best rapper alive IS nas

  • "Hey, me no worry, hasish keep my eyes Chinese

Rollin' two Phillies together make blunts Siamese"

I can't even express how ill that was. Anybody who ever puffed knows that shit is ill.

  • Lil Wayne is only a sapless spec of dust compared to eternal galaxy of greatness that Nas is.

  • L.E.S on the beat.

  • I'm blunted up listenin to this song in the dark.

  • they said this album is when NaS sold out. But I still think this is a Good follow up to Illmatic. Though I don't know what happened to the next 2 albums after this lol. But nonetheless they still had good bangers.

  • @RuthlessCriminal408 This album didn't get NEAR the credit it deserved. Bottom line, if anybody else except for the guy that made Illmatic had done this album, it would have been universally praised. It's like how Casino doesn't get love cuz it's the same guy who made Goodfellas.

  • @Antrizzle2009 thats exactlyy whatt i saidd, soo trueee, for me i like it more than illmatic, andd i love casino prob as much as goodfellas

  • "Slaughter, Nautica'd down, frames look petite, Ten millis, mix designed just for my physique, I keep a low pro as if I owe, bless the flow lovely, My pants hang low while I'm dancing, sipping the bubbly" So ill, man.

  • nas aint underrated anyone who knows hip hop not rap knows he the greatest

  • my eyes chinese

  • 3 people are suspect.

  • @TaintedDrifter 3 people got their shit pushed back

  • @big ben i respect your opinion cuz illmatic and it was written were both dope ass albums but it was written is better from a creative, production standpoint plus nas lyrics were more on point.

  • OMG !!!! 3 peoples deserve to get shot in public

  • Nas. Top 5 rapper..

  • @NationWideification Nas #1 rapper

  • ill nas=underrated

  • i'm the type of ni@@a that'll shoot ya leg just to get my name known!

  • ARE u the type..... is what he said.

  • illmatic+ It Was Written equals hip hops Bible

  • SUSPECT NIGGA DONT COME OUTSIDE..... U MIGHT GET YA SHIT PUSHED BACK TONIGHT!!!!!!

  • illmatic vs it was written+ both of them was great albums but i'll go ILLMATIC

  • thats a beat and a half man

    plus da lyrics... damnnn!

  • Nas is in the top 5 easy...Now all he has to do is sign with my label High and Mighty Entertainment to get into the #1 spot!!

  • escabize.....

  • uggghhh. Forget how hot this track was. The lyrics came back to me after all these years

  • these niggaz is gettin my money yo!

  • i agree w/ thareeldoc

  • this is nas hottest album!

  • it's close between this one and stillmatic. That was the come back album but this is still one of my favorites.

  • true that

  • a check out that prod dude freenarm from bklyn he got this joint 2010 suspect this joint is bananas

  • Jammin'... pretty crunk too...

  • man... hip hop is mostly a culture than a music gender, rap is a part of hip hop's culture. surelly some1 is goin to insult me and try to start an argue about this so i dont care about anything else than wat i said.

  • my favorite cut on iww is shootouts and watch dem niggas

  • It was written was a grimey nyc classic album

  • Nastradamus was hip-pop, not IWW. There was a few songs that had some singing on it but you can't name one song on there that sounded as commercial as You Owe Me, the most mainstream song was If I Ruled The World, and even that 100X more hip-hop.

  • @LChris6 nastradamus was trash still is trash period

  • @masterbmh u smokin crystal meth wit that shit u talking

  • @masterbmh Yeh I hated Nastradamus, but it had a few gems on it...like Life we chose.

  • illmatic is better but this album is amazing too nice song

  • Illmatic was way more powerful then this. This is Hip-Pop compared to his first album. Yet and still it's far superior to lots of other albumz.

  • Hip Pop? LOL

The only thing Illmatic had over this is beats.

This could have used a reflective song like memory lane of The World is Yours though.

  • Take it in blood is my fav on this album! i love this album but i love illmatic equally!

  • take it in blood is amazing but affirmative action is tight tho too

  • yeah defo ! im feelin the beat too ! wish the firm did more!

  • nas tells a story through every song

  • IT WAS WRITTEN is an album thats underrated this album was better than ILMATIC.Just because it was more complex and longer and it seemed like he just strait up got better lyrically, and a different state of mind and New LIFE as an artist.

  • naa but close its not as versitle its a straight poetic hood storied CD ilmatic had the switch up of immortality from song to song best chemistry ever

  • @compaqmakk not better den illmatic but it was better then most thought.

  • @compaqmakk you re crazy lol listen to both albums and really study thier dynamics

  • nas is the illist and it's sad he's not getting the respect he deserves. and these whack ass rappers don't even know it.

  • only people who don't know shit say nas is anything but one of the best ever

  • i like nas because he has musical talent. now its all southern rappers being hillbillies. this cd is from when rappers really smoked weed. you can tell nobody uses weed anymore because the songs are so shallow and obnoxious.

  • @benjie414 ? ????? WFF? " you can tell nobody uses weed anymore because....." what in the**** does that mean and dont try to explain yourself cause it was a ignorant statement. these m*****fuckers didnt smoke weed to write an album, they were smoking cause thats what they wanted to do. ill jump out and say even though drugs have influenced manys music, rappers dont smoke to write " deep songs" they smoke cause they like the high and they kick rhymes cause thats what they do

  • @benjie414 so true ,the weed is what is missing good observation been wonderin whats wrong im not feeling this new ish

  • @benjie414 all southern rappers arent hillbilies do some research

  • @imisrael92

compared to ny rappers, they are.

  • "Are you the type of nigga

to shoot a leg to get your name known?"

    damnn.........

  • yes i am...no matter wat it takes in ma hood its all bout fame kid and shortys

  • queens all day

  • It Was Written was progression/improvement, but NOT better if that makes any sense to y'all like it does to me. Ready To Die brought the East back so there's no comparison. Reasonable doubt is a CLASSIC(5 mic delight), but u can't forget The Purple Tape, Low End Theory, Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik, Business Neva Personal, Criminal Minded, etc. Remember 80's and 90's babies HIP HOP did NOT begin after '92

  • @longsufferer2 The purple Tape by Raekwan? Neva herd that. I remembered that from Jay-z's song a star is born. Cant even find that on youtube.

  • @051290ma the purple tape was called "only built for cuban links".It was called the purple tape becouse the cassette was purple.

  • @Kabrion8 Yea the purple tape was a classic. The "chef" killed that

  • @051290ma Only Built For Cuban Linx was also called the purple tape cuz back then when you bought the cassette tape it was purple.

  • "I keep a low pro as If I owe. Bless the flow lovely. My pants hang while I'm dancing sippin' the bubbly. Hey, Me no worry. Hashish keeps my eyes Chinese. Rollin' two Phillies together make blunts Saimese."

This is my favorite Nas song ever.

  • could i say, that this was the best rap album of all times???

  • yo whenever I hear this song, just the beat alone illustrates niggas just chilling outside their projects smoking blunts on the benches within that NYC orange streetlight glow reminiscing on wild shit. The beat alone just speaks New York essence

  • '...nautica down (goose jacket), frams look pitie (slim in design). We did'nt were expensive clothes because we were stupid. On the contray, it went the absolute reverse. We, had class and taste, thus, our own culture.

  • You have to Jones on these stupid fck's to keep from cying. Shit's that bad , for real.

  • 'cherish' def. got that one right

  • real talk i think this lp was better than illmatic cuz it was more creative...think about it then disagree my top 3 albms are

    1 reasonable doubt

    2 it was written

    3 illmatic

  • that is true yo

  • wrong, illmatic is by far the best album ever than ready to die than maybe paid in full by ra or wu tang 36 chambers learn your shit it was written is sick but not top 3 dumbass

  • No. What you failed to do is you didn't give your reasons as to why Illmatic is better than It Was Written. I think Illmatic is better yea, but I'm starting to feel that It Was Written was a more complex LP. More creativity, more organized lyrics from Nas, and definitely more stories. Now explain your reasons.

  • This album was robbed of a 5 mic rating from The Source.

  • f#$# the source

  • "Are you the type of ni**a to shoot a leg to get your name on?"

  • haha 3:31 "stupd mothafllukkas"

  • that second verse is crazy

  • chaaaaaaaa the man badd as fuck *****nas*****

  • Str8 Classic

  • real shit right here i bet real hip hop will be back ppl gonna get tired of this new rap dance shit

  • fuck no this shit is not coming back this shit has to stay underground!

  • nas most underrated song either this or take it in blood!

  • Hell yeah Take It In Blood is my shit off this album.

  • My favorite song from It Was Written.

  • shit is so sinister. nas is effortless

  • 1 of my favorite songs on my favorite hiphop album of all time... scientist, able and reckless...

  • nas got some stories b

  • I blaze my shit to this, this niggas storytelling abilities is plain immaculate.

  • This song represents TRUE emceeing....Nas' flow on this track is absolutely untouchable. This displays the true essence of lyricism in hip-hop and shows why Nas will go down in history as one of the best emcees ever.

  • Nas' best tune I reckon

  • a this album might be the single greatest album.... too many classics... listen shid............

  • This CD had no bad songs. My favorite album!

  • @JMFAJK It's a classic. dude's were just bugging of how good Illmatic was, which is understadable so this didn't have AS much impact.

  • rebel to america's civilization caught ya sleepin.

  • who says the second verse...i think nas comes in half way through but who sings first?

  • this track is everything and anything

    "niggas getting MY money yo"

  • Dear God, I want the riches...

  • My favorite Nas shit, Illmatic was that uncut stone fresh out the earth, while IWW was that polished stone in the tiffany's glass case "desipher my deciever make him a believer, spittin gemstars words in mic type reciever" C'mon mayne.

  • Comment removed

  • @shonha1 real shit

  • @shonha1 i agree completely. and this song is another slept on.

  • @shonha1 lol I like the way you explained illmatic and this album. If i was yo English teacher, you would get an A for that shit bruh lol

  • Nas Is God.

  • Whoa you need to think b4 you blaspheme against His holiness, Nas is nice but he is NOT God. Show the proper respect.

  • this soulja boy shit is just to get a reaction....we all know Nas is the greatest

  • soulja boy has talent? wat da fuk

  • soulja boy gone lose his deal cus da way he rap aint gone be wat niggas gone wanna listen to in years to come

  • u crazy??

  • this song is way overlooked,, classic!!!!

  • straight up... favorite track on the album..

    this track is so over-looked

  • yo, this track is dirty, fuck the new school hip hop, its WEAK! Nas represent kid, you kick some real knowledge, let these other fools know man

  • in complete seriousness, i need to know what possible reasoning you have for thinking soulja is capable of being compared to Nas in anyway. what really makes you think that soulja boy is of the same or even close to the same caliber as Nas? i just dont get it, the math doesn't add up...

  • son was just bugging yo. he was just tryna get cha attention. and he succeded

  • Best song on the album.
