Hi sorry just back from a trip. Yes ronnie was magic and my grandaddy had some wonderful stories about him but bad ones too. When i was little my daddy would'nt play you're so right for me incase it scared me lol.
@wildcattamergirl I actually like the band backing Ronnie up on this one, they are very professional .
The drummer is excellent with that 1950s "running wringer washing machine at wash" steady beat.
The lead guitarist is very tastefull with those sweet clarinet tone sparse and well timed leads.
The steel guitar and the amplified fiddle add a bizarre feel to this Carl Perkins classic, unusual for the time period and ahead of its time in some ways.
@boerborn Hi how r u. Great that u like it, i was speaking from second generation on that in an artist like ronnnie 2 have had a live album ( as these recordings were meant 4 ) with a less countryfied band would be an incredible moment in rock history. Not saying it's bad but maybe b cause i have presley way of looking at things. have a great day. xox.
@wildcattamergirl, Although this is a 1950s live recording most probably at the start of his career. I do not know if this was recorded as part of a live album, at least not in the ones released in 1950s as it was not popular to do that back then. There are other contemporary artists to Ronnie Self that had live period recordings placed on album compilations that came out in decades later, Gene Vincent comes to mind .
It is a shame that Ronnie Self self destructed at such a young age.
Five *, at least from me. Ronnie did another great one called "Houdini" (yes, THAT Houdini!) but can't find it on YT. Anyway thanx for this live stuff. Great.
