Smoke Genorators...... How exactly do they work and can they be left on whilst a train is standing at a platform or does the loco have to be moving? Just i think every steam train i have seen still has steam coming out of it when it is waiting for passengers to get on/off the train. Do they take some sort of feeding Like oil or something to creat the steam effect?
@DEEJAYDAVIDGE Hi Thank you for the interest and comments. I do some private work not a huge amount any more. If you want something done drop me a private email via youtube. Some of the hobby shops also watch the posting on my youtube account. You may be contacted by one of them. Cheers
I have never had any problems with any of my A4's. In saying that I have never purchased a railroad range loco. I think they are well manufactured plenty of detail and are great runners. Hope that helps.
hi nice train but what i like to know does anybody out there have problems with
the hornby railroad range ie a4 s falcon my train has fell to bits several times from new i thinck its china using cheep parts so the trains dont last to long
unlike my tri ang which is 50 year old and still going strong
read what i have to say in whats wrong with falon video comments
Typical steam sound ,good at slow speed, but once speed increases it goes out of sync. Even when sync swch are fittd , I think diesel good but they cant get steam to sound good once timing is taken into account. Not impressed enough to buy. Beeman.
@benjokazooie The nearest you can get to 'puffing' smoke was the old Hornby syncrosmoke. Small air pump driven by loco motor. Seuthe smoke unit are just a small oil boiler that causes the vaporised oil to spit out of a hypo sized heated tube. not bad at speed but dont 'chuff'. Beeman.
@Knowles87 Hi well spotted, I have asked plenty of people with English/Scottish accents if they would like to do some "oldies" for me but they all decline, so the next best thing is youtube.
Sounds soooooooo unlike the real thing. Essentially, DCC Sound does not work. The problem is the sound that you are trying to replicate compared to the size of the speaker fitted to the model. Its a little bit like using earphones on max volume as speakers for your TV.
Can I make a suggestion, Hornby have announced that they are releasing an A4 with DCC Sound. I can send you some photos on how to install the smoke and that should make it easier.
I built them myself out of plastic and LED's. I have just tested the new pre-production "LMS" loco lights which will be soon on the market. I believe they come in packs of six, pre-wired with resistors. I will post a LMS Jinty and you can see them. Thanks for looking.
oh boy, just shows how far model trains have come since i was a boy. jsut out of interest, can you please make a video of the trains running so i can see how the smoke works while in motion.
I have a 4 video's at the moment that I cannot upload. Something wrong my end I believe and I cannot figure out what it is. I have a nice one of a black 9f duel smoke running in a valley but until I can fix the problem......
My videos upload to about 45-55% and then lock up, any ideas?
depends. who is your internet provider? you may be exciding your upload limits, if so you need to get unlimited upload/download. sounds silly, but try uploading onto your acount from a friends PC
Thanks very much for the advice for that problem. The problem is my laptop as I did what you said on another pc and I was able to upload 4 times quicker. I will have to find out now what is wrong with the laptop.
They are an LED I got from DCC Concepts. Fitting I bend the legs solder wire to them and drill holes 0.5mm in the body. Put a resistor in series on the positive side and link up with the function of your choice.
Yes they are compatible on DCC but I suspect Hornby told you this because their decoders have a max output of 500mA. You need to use a no 22 as it is rubber lined. If you have a look at the Bachmann 9f I did I have also used a relay to control the smoke generators so I don't overload the decoder. I will post shortly another duel this time it has bigger generators, a storage tank and a pre-heater "for those who want a massive amount of controllable smoke" I will explain more on that post.
Ithink this is just fabulous. I was told (Hornby say so also) that smoke units are not compatible with DCC, since they can overheat and melt the body. How did you do it. And where did the lamps come from? Thanks. Great job.
Thank you for the comments. It is a Seuthe No 22 and it does require a bit of gringing of the weight to fit it. I also shortened the genny by 2.5mm and this is the real hard part.
wow fantastic!

Nice! The middle driver has nasty wobble though... I wonder how long the wheel plating will last. Maybe you should get a spare.

Are all those sounds coming from the A4 or are they recorded.?
Codenamebravo 6 months ago
@Codenamebravo Hi the A4 has a DCC sound decoder installed in it with the sounds recorded on the decoder so yes the sounds are coming from the A4.
