  • I think this is the easiest Rush's song

    do you agree?

  • @Shadic159 Easiest is kind of subjective. It's not Rush's hardest for sure I agree with that. I usually say to people to try Here Again off of the first album if they want an easy Rush song, but that's because I found that one easy myself to start. Everyone is different. Limelight has that transition from 4/4 to 3/4 that can make it tough to figure out.

  • You have a black strap on a black shirt. The strap is invisible. It looks like the bass is floating in your hands! ;-)

  • nice ric! my dream bass, that i probably wont get till im at least 20! is it a 4001? or 4003?

  • @juliacurtis74 Thanks! It's a 4003.

  • I think this is the best cover I have heard of this song. You actually get all of those little in-between notes in the main riff that everyone misses. Cudos!

  • Hats off to you - great cover! To anyone that owns a Rick bass - hold onto it unless you're forced to sell. To those of you who want to own one - invest in one. You will be glad you did and probably cherish is for the rest of your life.

Yes, the waiting period is almost 2 years.. Be patient - it's worth the wait. In the meanwhile, their prices increase while your original sales price won't.

  • Spot on!

  • @superslappadabass No, they are stock.

  • @superslappadabass It's a Gallien-Krueger MB150E.

  • I don't play bass, but this is my favorite Rush's bass line.

  • Dude, that was AWESOME !!!!

(I played bass back in the day; had a Rick also! Rush was one of my influences).

I was laughing all through this video; you REALLY hit that thing !!!!!

    Great job !!!!

  • ah that is my dream bass

  • @astrosjake don't dream. make it happen. i'm buying a rick soon. got $1000 saved up already. i got tired of staring at pictures and watching videos. so i said screw it, i'm done saying maybe some day

  • @62593tm

I never thought of it that way, thats wise :D

  • good job!

  • you got every thing down good but you really gotta dig into it man, really pluck each note

  • Now play keyboards and sing while playing this and you'll be right up there with the best =)

    Well done!

  • hey man a bit of a question regarding rickenbackers. i've heard from a few people that rickenbacker have neck problems mostly i regaurding the fact that they have dual trussrods. i've played a rickenbacker before and it felt and sounded AMAZING and saving up for one but numerous sales attendants told me not to get one because of what i just discussed. if you can reply to me with some info about how your ricky is holding up and that i will be very greatful

  • @belial1237 I haven't had any trouble with the neck. I use the same strings always though. I think people have more trouble when they play around with different gauges and need to adjust the truss rods. I use Rotosound Swing Bass RS66 LD strings and the neck has been stable.

  • @fcbv thanks man, i better get a job soon to purchase one as soon as possible cause i really want one LOL.

  • @belial1237 i had a ric for a while i rarely had to adjust the neck, even Geddy Lee's bass tech said that when Ged took the ric out for the snakes & arrows tour he only had to adjust that neck once or twice for the entire tour. the only time you would have worry is if you left that bass in a 40 degree garage out of its case while you weren't playing it. they're wonderful basses, get one

  • @belial1237 I would recommend it. My dad has 3 ricks and he thinks they sound awesome. get the bass. you won't be sorry.

  • your bass is nifty

  • rush dude huh? awsome job. ( i learned to play the song from this cover)

  • awesome!

  • the rickenbacker is a thing of beauty.

  • nice bass dude!! i like it

  • I think yours is the closest to note perfect on youtube. You've noticed some of the minutia of the line that many others haven't picked up on. The solo section in particular. I fine rendition indeed.

  • one thing i'll never forget from geddy is he has alot of movement on the neck.... which is y all of his songs are the best!!!!!

  • one thing ill never forget from geddy is he uses alot of movement on the neck..... which is y all of his songs r DA BEST

  • dont those rics cost about 2000 sumthin bucks?

  • finally someone who deserves their ric i've been to alot of vids were they own one of these beautiful basses and are just really choppy players

    great playing

  • god i want a rick so bad ;_;

  • Damn that was good. So smooth and tight and the tone is spot-on!

  • Damn nice work. And on a Rickenbacker with Rotosound strings. Nice touch!

  • Well learned and well done. Geddy will teach us all a few things, huh?

  • that looks like the same bass geddy lee used in the albums during the progressive rock era and the synthesizer period of the bands career, although that was the Rickenbacker 4001.

  • LA MUSICA ESTA MUY ALTA Y NO DEJA ESCUCHAR MUY BIEN A ESTE SENSACIONAL BAJISTAAA

  • haven't heard a rick in a while...nice!! remember geddy's sound from the old days. now I think he uses a jazz mostly. by the way, his geddy lee signature fender jazz bass kicks ass! Thanks dude

  • This is fucking amazing, im 13 and im attempting this song, pree hard -.-

  • Nice job. And ricks are beautiful monsters of a bass.

  • hey dude what strings do you use just curious

  • They're Rotosound Swing Bass RS66 LD strings

  • @fcbv the best strings ever of course

  • nice

  • both you and your ric rock!

  • The bass is very good...

  • Very nice !!!

  • pretty good, a little sloppy and incorrect during the end though.

  • @GeddyLee211 Give him a break for god sake!

  • very well done, my sis likes ur bass the undenying deep!!!

  • Very nice bass

  • dude that is a sweet bass

  • how thin of a neck does a rickenbacker bass have?

  • the thinnest of any full scale bass guitar

  • Butiful bass

  • u should be happy ur bass guitar was reali used by geddy le during the exit stage concert

  • DUDE NICE BASS!

  • Did you learn this song by ear are do you have the tabs? If you have the tabs the way you played it Could you email them to me? I would like to learn this song but i can't find any good tabs for it. Thanks alot if you can help me.The Trooper

  • Sorry, I don't use tabs very much.

  • try a website called songsterr, it's really good

  • @thetrooper39 It's better to not use tabs since they're completely useless for anything other than learning songs.

  • nah it's actually fairly easy for a rush song I've only been playing for a year and I can play it fairly easily

  • i enjoyed this very much

  • slammin' again

  • i like how u play it

  • Excellent man ..good job..takes me back ..to my Black Widow that I sold for 100 bucks..makes sick..wish I had it back

  • Nice piece man. I miss my Rick.

  • your ricky is in pretty good shape, i got my this year and its already getting dinged

  • Ugh, I'm 100 miles from any store that sells them -_-

  • Nice playing, but why do you always use your bridge pickup? Use the neck pup once in a while, you get more ricky tone instead of alota mud that you get. But, your playing is pretty good overall.

  • I don't use effects much and use a little combo amp so I end up cutting out some of the highest end to avoid all of the finger noise. It doesn't sound good clean to me. I love the sound of a rick through a great amp or through great direct boxes though. Then the highest highs are magic.

  • Okay, I know what you mean. What combo do you have? I think you said ampeg or acoustic before, but I cant remember.

  • It's a Gallien-Krueger MB150E.

  • Okay thanks

  • beautiful bass

    nice playing

  • man ive been watching your videos and i must say your really good but i mean you have a ricky utalize it get rid of that real bass sound for rush and up your highs all the way, mids to about 7 and bass to about 6 or 5 and then youll be good but otherwise ...magnificent

  • haha.... nice... very good job... I played this song for a party with my uncles... great job man... keep it up... Rush is good

  • Great playing, but the "ad lib" mentioned previously is really a bit much. A good place to find inspiration is the Rush Tablature Project on internet, all songs very well tabbed. Hope to have a rick someday, thanks for the video (very good to see people caring about playing rush!!)

  • the only one i have had problems with from RTP is digital man

  • there is a music store near where i live that has four or five hofners, it is tall toads if anyone is nearby and looking for a hofner

  • I love the 3/4 time during the solo. Great job.

  • You guys are dumb haha, he has a strap!!! you can just barely see it

  • no good... you HAVE TO SING IT TOO!

  • hahaha very funny

  • Man your fucking great...love how you cant notice the strap

  • its hovering....duh

  • i dont think he has a strap

  • you added a little adlib stuff in there... Nice, but.. a little much, IMO. But I'm also a loser haha.

  • where can u get the notes for the song?

  • u played it great. Ill be getting a bass soon, i never een played one in my life. I cant w8

  • its a hell lota fun

  • that bass looks good in black

  • Rickenbacker's look like really nice bass guitars great playing too this song is awsome and RUSH is awsome

  • Nothing beats a rick. End of story

  • Is it only me who think that rickenbacker are shit.

    Nice playing dude

  • Sorry James, you're alone in this!

  • Dont appologize!!! Rics are the shit!!!

  • Yeah, only you

  • They are the shit if that's what you mean.

Talk about best bass money can buy. But if that's your opinion i have nothing wrong with that. peace.

  • But seeing the freaking hard to see strap just made me laugh.... Holding a Rickenbacker without a strap can be fucking heavy as hell!!

  • geddy uses his '70 fender jazz for this so but still i think that it sounds better on a ricky

  • geddy lee has a bass just like that one your useing

  • lol no way

  • Superb cover! And I love your bass! :D

  • this is my next bass! i dont mind the price but these days they arent easy to find!!! very irritating. im happy with my Jazz and P until i get my hands on a 4003 though

  • Thought I'd give you a pointer. Check out the stores that have a lot of floor space (i.e. Guitar Center) but aren't well known. There's a local place around here fitting that description, but if you have a Sam Ash, they're pretty much guaranteed to have a Ric, they stock up on a lot of the expensive basses and hard to find ones, even Höfners, which are very rare to see in a store.

  • great 4003 , i like the bass for m the best of the world

  • u gotta play with your right hand in front of the metal thingy. really pick and grab the strings hard to get the geddy tone.

i'm a bassist too and i know its its hard to play clean like that but its something u gotta do if yuor gonna play rush.

    gret job nonetheless :)

  • word

  • awesome bass man

    cool cover

  • Um...YA. I tryed to do this, and i did it

Suprising if you look at my vids cauz i suck like hell on camra.

    You scrwed up the ending

  • hey man play ´´ the camera eye ´´ ....

  • Rush is incredible. Great bass cover and bass by the way.

  • I'm blinded with music

  • No insult intended, but more treble please.

  • @ReneeNme for playing rush, more treble would be better. but my personal preference in bass tone is not the super bright and trebly stuff. i like this tone that hes got.

  • very good ...

  • YOU ROCK!!!

  • oh dude, NICE tone. ur a really good bassist.

  • Nice. But you gotta have a 4001. Kidding

  • I will be uploading a vid of myself doing this soon.

  • excellente interprétation,j'adore.

  • TIGHT!!!!!!!!!

  • the rickbass videos on here are pretty hit-or-miss in terms of good tone. you hit it.

  • Dude, I love Rush. Way to totally do them justice with this cover. And lucky you with the Rickenbacker.

  • Don't be frustrated by my question (I'm a bass player, too) but why you don't use your little finger? However, nice job.

  • I use my little finger more in some other songs but you are right I don't use it as much as some people. Check on Beneath, Between and Behind for example here: v=vo1UjK2BcqU

  • nice job i love this i just purchased a 4003 in jetglo it sounfs just like this

    awesome!

  • youu rockkk!

i play the guitar an di love this song

my brother pklay the bass he has been playng 15 years and play like you rush rockzz

  • I've been playing bass/guitar/drums for over 27 years. Geddy is one of my favorite musicians and I enjoy playing many of the older tunes note for note.

    You did an exceptional job.

    BRAVO!!!!

  • That's really great! - I think some ppl are judging you like a guitar player. A bass is a very difficult instrument to get a 'tune' out of really - Geddy is about one of the best around, and you do a fantastic job of following his complex melodies with just the 4 strings - super!... keep it up

  • man that guitar brand PWNS all and nice playing too! right on target!

  • Sweet bass, great playing

  • OH MY GOD! SWEET!

  • You are soooooo damn lucky to have this kinda bass!!!

I've got a squier... which is pretty good but I wish to have rickenbacker

  • same i got a squire too...there okay but if you play near the bridge its not a great bass to have...im looking to get a jazz bass...or get the rythm stick off my uncle when they come out [:

  • Rickys are sick. I especially like urs. I have a fender jazz bass and I like it. If any one knows my A string, whenever i play it it starts off with a metallic sound. I think it might be some thing in the bridge or its hitting the first fret. if u no please respond

  • that happens on my jazz bass... try adjusting the bridge height, that solved my problem

  • Been trying to learn to play and sing this one. The chorus is driving me nuts and my voice is flat to the recording all the time. Great job.

  • You're missing a slew of notes and the feel is out the window. This isn't played like it should be, but great effort.

  • I agree you have to add some feel to it

  • good job, now try singing in the same time! next challenge!

  • so good

  • Nice and smooth.

  • vischop is right. I complemented you on "barchetta" but here you are much better. You are more confident and you plat it like you mean it. (like your in the band rather than playing along). VERY GOOD!

  • much better than "red barchetta", congrats

    :)

  • tricky feel, I know

  • Excellent job on this song! I'm learning this next.

  • one word, fantastic

  • awesome again

  • my uncle has this exact bass got it when he was in his teens

  • Take off the silly pickup cover and play between the pickups and you'll sound ridiculously better on this song.

  • why would he take it off? i thought that cover was supposed to help the vibrations resonate into the pickup better. correct me if i'm wrong (i played a marcus miller bass at a local music place that had the same thing)

  • i saw my first rush concert when i was 12, and im going again in 2 days.

  • i am a 15 years old who likes rush since 12 XD

Btw i got a version of me playing Limelight on bass, check it out if you want

  • What does that have to do with anything?

There are people that have liked rush since 1968.

  • i am a 15 years old who likes rush since 12 XD

Btw i got a version of me playing Limelight on bass, check it out if you want

  • i am a 14 year old who likes rush too

  • i swear im the only 14 year old who likes rush lol, good job, i saw a video of a guy trying to imitate geddy lee's voice and it was horrible o.O

  • i'm 14 and i love rush! my dad used to listen to them all the time and i picked up on it and i have loved them since

  • im 13 and there in my faves.

  • No one sings like Geddy; his voice is unique.

  • i completely agree, he's very original

  • WHAT THE HELL! this video shouldint be 4 stars man! i swear no1 gives 5 stars anymore sheez!

  • ur rickenbacker is absolutely gorgeous

    i just started bass

and i hope to get one just like yours

  • Good luck. I found out the current price for this bass is $1,599.99 not including tax.

  • im getting one for my second bass

  • It almost seems as is camera trickery was involved. I'd like to see it slower because I suck and could use the guidance it would provide!

  • Nice job, that song's a bitch to play smoothly.

  • where did you go to learn how to play this?

  • I mostly learn by ear.

  • Hey, I'm an aspiring bass player, and I really really LOVE RUSH to death. They are my favorite band. Any tips to playing Rush bass lines? It's hard! but I'm self taught, and I'm keeping to it.

  • The best advice I can think of is to practice as much as you can. Practice by playing along with a CD and realize that you will play the same song over and over and get better at it gradually. If you can't play every part of a song then just getting any part right at first is good. Seeing yourself progress is its own reward.
