We tried to sleep in the car the nite before, but the fireworks were insaine, My first time seing AC/DC and when Bon came into the audience we were right there. became an instant fan.
I took some cool photo's at this concert. Truth is it was a great show with Molley Hatchet, Steve Dahl, The Babies (actually flipped off the crowd) how the Babies accepted a gig between AC/DC with Bon Scott...and the hometown boys of Cheap Trick is beyond me. I am actually in this video at about 5:37 plus or minus a few seconds taking pictures near the right edge of mid level.
I've seen Cheap Trick more times than I've seen any other band(Ramones a close 2nd).
And SO lucky to have seen AC/DC before Bon checked out. Shows like this were huge after 1976 Superbowl of Rock series. Was at the Aerosmith, Jeff Beck, Rick Derringer show@original Comiskey Park, 7/10/1976.
Damn, those were the days! Probably left a couple of brain cells at each show, hope
The first time I saw Cheap Trick was at JDs White Elephant in Monroe Wisc. 1975 I was 15 the drinking age was 18 and had a ID that said I was 18 remember the paper licsense? Went there with my favorite cousin Steve Stockton in his 354 Oldsmobile
awesom! This is the 1st time I've seen this video. This entire concert was as good as it gets and it was only 25 miles from home in Wis. Wow! what memories, I actually can remember a good portion of this concert believe it or not.
@dickwyss I posted before I recognized the grandstand. D'oh! I worked a demolition derby there about 10 years ago. Was the announcer's stand along the fronts stretch then? Where was the stage? Just curious...
Cheap Trick took the stage six hours after the gates opened. Also playing were Steve Dahl and Teenage Radiation (disco demolition fame), Molly Hatchet, The Babys, and AC/DC with Bon Scott. Awesome, awesome show from the cornfields and rolling hills of far northern Illinois in the summer of 1979.
@tutty449 it was my first concert i was 14 it blew me away rock n roll hall of fame have there heads up there butts they shouldnt have that say it should be the peoples choice
It was one hell of a concert. I was there also. I think Head East was there too? Saw Bon here and in Madison. I'm glad I can say I saw him twice. I still live 25 min from Pecatonica in Monroe.
@dickwyss No Head East that I can remember. I loved that band too!I think it was The Babys, AC/DC, Molly Hatchet, and Steve Dahl's crap. I remember wearing white pants and getting them all muddy. hehe.
One of the MOST MEMORABLE concerts I have EVER been to was Cheap Trick at the HecEd Pavillion in Seattle, U of W campus, on August 2nd 1979. This video was shot just over three weeks before that so it captures CT just as I remembered them the very first time.
What's rare about this recording is that Rick Nielson is playing the same guitar on the first three songs. I've seen them 5 or 6 times and he changes guitars literally every song.
...i'm embarassed to say that i just got chills....my youth was sooooo defined by this band. thx 4 posting. (chills are good for someone who is old enough to have hot flashes! hahahahahha!)
@pseedie o...m...g! that made me lol!! too funny! i can so relate! i looooooved these guys and i looooooved robin. hung out with some of their guys after the show back in '77 but didn't get to meet the band!! :( i was so close. lol thanx for the giggle!
@sgtpepper1138 I agree that the quality is good, bit I find it curious when people are surprised that there are quality recordings which are several decades old. In fact I am not sure if the quality of recordings has really improved much since 1979.
There are excellent concert movies from the 60's and 70's.
@EdiblePlanets I'm just surprised that the video hasn't degraded over the years. And yes, over the years the cameras and recording technology have gotten MUCH better, back then it was like 240 lines of resolution, now we have 1080. I have a RUSH Blu Ray and you can see the grey hair Geddy Lee has, and you can see each guitar string on Alex Lifesons guitar. Granted these are great gems from the time, so I wouldn't expect any better, but i've seen MUCH worse.
I was at this show, too. Molly Hatchet with their wall of Peavys rocked. Did an encore. AC/DC with their wall of Marshalls rocked. Did an encore. Then came the Babys and the crowd just died. No encore. Babys should have come out first. But Cheap Trick got the crowd pumped again! Loved 'em then, love 'em now, got 'em on my iPod.
@sunsetsandrises i saw cheap trick this year. they were spectacular, o my best concert i have been to, they played this song but i for got what its called....can u help me out?
