My father was in Nam with the UTT(Utility Tactical Transport "first with Guns") in '63 during the upgrade from 1a to 1b. Was maint. on the 1b XM system and flew door gunner. Can't wait to show him the Video.
No, the ah-1 is the one with the 3 barreled 20 mm cannon, but the huey had one to but it wasnt two barreled, mounted on the nose, if you see it , it looks like a ball on the nose of the huey. I do have footage of it, but thats the ah-1 not uh-1, the ah-1 was the first of the helicopters actually designed for one purpose; killing, otherwise known as the gunships. The huey was more for transport, although there are gunship variations.
I personnaly think that a 40mm Grenade Launcher on a ball turret mount and 2 of them on fixed forward fire controled by the pilot is a wonderful weapon for the UH-1H along with 2xM261 19 shot 2.75" rockets and 8-12 TOW/Helfire Missiles.
Yea , i put this video together with everything i have on the huey, it was a legend, and a weapon on mass destruction. I love hueys, it has been named the best helicopter of all time on about every book, show, even the discovery channel lol, but really its revolutionized the battlefield.
Do you also know of experimentation with putting 20mm cannon on the nose turret of HA(L)-3 squadron? I think the Army and Marine squadrons experimented more conservatively.
Though I like the Uh-1h Huey the best, this is an awesome video. A huey is a huey after all. You should check out the americanhuey369 website if you are interested in hueys.
Mine's a hog too. It looks fantastic if I do say so myself...i customized it with extra details like microphone headsets in the crew's helmets and looping comms cables connecting the headsets to the ceiling. Theres even used shell casings by the feet of the door gunners. Best of luck with the loach; u should post progress pics on a website for real. Regarding ur 40 chopper diorama..is this is the inspiration? *grin* youtube*com/watch?v=I-1wmt_odDU
ahh its possiabl that it might be right now its not even close but we are going to try and get it to fly again.the cool thing is it was in nam at 1 point in the war its got repaird bullet holes up around the cockpit.but yeah were gonna try and get it to fly
wow 3 months must look real nice man! every now and then if you look in some walmarts ull see the huey hog marine corp huey gunship witch i buy every time i see them and make diff models out of them right now im working on a huey thats being shot down in mid air.and trying to make a nice set up for a huey war with like 30 40 hueys coming down sounds sorta laim lol

do you have any footage on the UH-1E?
Do you also know of experimentation with putting 20mm cannon on the nose turret of HA(L)-3 squadron? I think the Army and Marine squadrons experimented more conservatively.

Also, later on, the m197 3-barreled 20mm cannon was fixed on the nose turret, do you have any info on this?
This was all experimenting, so info is VERY scarce. Thanks.
