  • amazing tutorial, thank you =)

  • you have all my respect u are great

  • an american having chinese music in his video. im surprised

  • @mudkipzuzu Not an American :p and can speak Chinese .. if did it again would probably talk instead - that would just be worse for everyone o.0

  • @scottmeijing oh ok

  • This is an EXCELLENT tutorial and you're one of the only ones on Youtube to actually get the hand positioning right. This kick was originally devised in the Shaolin temples and used to kick men of their horses. It has no purpose today apart from looking flashy. It can be used to kick someone, though there are more effective and powerful ways to do this!

  • this is depressing lol theres nooo way ill ever b able to do this ugh

  • fawless best guide for now

  • acottmeijing where are you from???

  • @1panosman Great Britain :)

  • butterfly kick is very difucalt but i learn ho to do it

  • great song:)i learn how to do this well done!!!!!!!!:)

  • WILBER PAN! :OOO

  • very good buttefly kick: wushu style

  • song name??? good tutorial! =)

  • gonna try this

  • great! how long did it take you to perfect?

  • i can butterfly kick like you rly i learn than you

  • this is probably the most comprehensive video that i've seen so far.

  • very easy

  • i finally got the butterfly kick down! thanks, this and other videos have helped me

  • im working on a hyper twist.. that actualy is a hard move unlike this kick

  • nc song i cant understand...

  • make a video about the butterfly twist. I have problems with it.

  • huh? i always thought you do these things facing your feet =.="....time to learn it all over again wahahahah

  • omfg 1:32 what a butterfly kick

  • The dude in red at 1:32 has the biggest air time ever. His leap was at least 10 feet wide!

  • 1:25 lol

  • THAT 's the most beautiful butterfly kick i ever saw =')

  • would this kick actually be effective in a real fight

    or is just for show

  • just for show

  • it it not just for show

  • i have used it in a real fight but u have to be fast and make sure u do it when u know it would connect with the oppent

these are one of those kicks where if done correctly can win you the fight but if done badly can make u lose the fight

  • retard

  • fuck you buakaew88

  • in a real fight you would go try this the guy would grab your leg and you would be completely screwed over

  • you can us it in a fight!! I kicked him half way through in the side he was in quite a bit of pain. so was i but i tried not to show it }:)

  • its actual ground application is an inside kick to the face then step with that leg, pivot, and back roundhouse kick with the other

  • well originally it was meant to be an actual attack, but now trickers, and such use it simply as a move, in most martial however they still use it as an actual attack such as in the form of karate i do. if you have ever seen the butterfly twist, the kick is much more noticeable

  • thats so fucking cool

  • That thing with the broomstick is a good idea, I think I might try that.

  • I'm not sure if it was you or not but the guy with the strait sword was AMAZING. Thanks for the info!!

  • nice video, showed some extra stuff I didn't pick up elsewhere.

Learning this now and although I can perform a lot of air moves already that involve twist and somersaults, this one still is hard.. Guess I am not used to turning in this ehr, axis/direction, if you understand me :P

  • Does it matter which way you do it? like i do it from the left side, and for most other vids i see them doing it from the right side

  • not at all

  • how do you use the blocking method for this move?

  • In the same way, if you imagine in a back somersault the arms act as the blocking mechanism, so the first leg at the hip does here.

Also, to get much height you want to be thinking about 3 things:

    1. Your lower stomach area is the bit you want to get up in the air.

    2. Should be punching down with the second leg

    3. Should jump into the air - both legs same time jump - just one whips up before the other.

  • what is the name of the music?

  • yeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaa

  • eh.. i thought butterfly kick is xuan feng? not xuan zi?

  • xuan feng jiao refers to the inside jump kick..;)

Xuan zi is the butterfly kick..

  • do u have to be flexible to do this?

  • no im not nor do i do gymnastics or anything but all u have to do is be brave and ull get it in like 3 or 4 trys cus thats all it took me

  • It's not getting the mechanics though, it's getting it looking nice thats the difficult bit. Especially if you're a wushu practitioner

  • he is not

  • wtf this song i have this on my sis's cd LOL

  • hey please anyone reply

umm while diong this i started to develop this wear strain feeling in my left leg what is that?

  • first stop doing butterfly kick. 2: stretch 3: check your form: make sure your doing it right: if you have to get a spotter 4:don't try the b-kick fatigued-wait till your fresh 5: build strength in your leg(s) 6: if the problem continues consult a doctor!!!!

  • hey scott, whats the name of this song? its really cool. nice video.

  • just listen to the lyrics and do a google search "with the exact lyrics in quotes like this" and you will find your song 99.5% of the time

  • Excellent tutorial, unlike many of the other butterfly kick tutorials you spend the time going through each aspect of the kick, and then you finish it off with a very smooth kick that shows good control, you get good height effortlessly with a great landing. Thanks

  • 謝謝你

  • THHHX for the nice turoial :D

  • wats the song called?

  • gao shou by will pan wei bo

  • Thx dude thats great Tut.

  • I don't understand what you are trying to say. "it is so sick, it's chill though.. i stole it from you!! It is already on my iPod thanks pal. " What does any of that mean? Maybe i'm just not "hip" enough for you dogg.

  • you're just not hip enough...

  • Fantastic tutorial. No doubt, the best b-kick tut there is. Detailed stretches to help you start forming you kick and great explanations

    5/5.

  • best tutorial for this move ive seen

  • Why would you want to know?

  • Guuuuoooooooooooooo¡¡¡¡ q buen tutorial saben yo asi si aprendo a hacer esta patada

  • one of the best tutorials ever made, ive gotta admit, and definitely 11 out of 10. each point of the move is taken and analyzed to the extent of actually teaching every application and mechanics to the whole move. bravo , mate. bravo

  • eh i can barely do it now...i just need to get my body at more of a 45 degree angle...its more of a 38-40 degree angle i think.

  • ARGH this is so annoying. I cant do this for shit

  • I love this video it was incredibly helpful.

Are there more tutorial coming in the future?

  • =[ it was a mistake for me to quit kung fu. now that i started back up i have to gain all my flexibility back. but thankyou for the help. the best so far that i have seen. good work. =]

  • whats the song lol i'm chinese and i dont even know

  • Its Pan Wei Bo - Gao Shou

  • gr8 tutorial man got any more?

  • i tried doing the jumps at the beginning without using a support to lean on and jus like fell straight on ma face! haha i'll do the jumps with a support next time =]

  • This is a sweet tutorial. I like how you show which excercises to use to improve it. Make more tutorials!!

  • nice vid.. could help beginners a lot ^_^

  • Hey I was wondering how long it took you to get this move down because I'm pretty flexible but i never took any classes what so ever. Does having a high vertical help also?

  • i dont think your vertical has anything to do with it. the butterfly kick is super easy if you follow a good tutorial like this vid. with standard stretching and drilling, it should take you from between 2 hours to 2 days depending on your will power and endurance.

  • my instructor said that there is a mizong quan school in london, im not sure where though, 15 years nice man, your technique is really clean, hope to train with you sometime soon. peace.

  • where do you train? i do kung fu with ancestral mountains around surrey/hampshire,it is more traditional though but we do some wushu, my instructor is more into his internal stuff but is sick, do you go to chen wu kuan? nice stuff.

  • Yup ^_^ Been there for 15 years now haha...time flies so fast. I am at uni in london now though so I rarely get to do any training there.

  • i'll look forward to see you doing a butterfly twist when you fully recover :)

  • yeah we did both of those kicks today. he also had us do the lotus kick with two mid air kicks. it was pretty fun.

  • im doing wushu now and im kinda confused about some of the kick names. jump inside is tornado, and jump outside is lotus right?

  • I very rarely use those names now, but your right :)

The jump inside in the West is sometimes called a tornado, or a whirlwind, but its name is Xuan Feng Jiao which is literally jumping inside kick.

The jumping outside gets called a lotus kick all the time, but its proper name is a Teng Kong Bai Lien, or just Bai Lien =)

  • nice video. your tutorial is so right about the dipping and everything. thanks man.

  • Instructions were a little fast but overall great tut.

  • Thanks :) Yeh, I was worried about that. I am doing one today for the lotus kick, and the back somersault, and I thought I would try and narrate them instead haha, as long as my voice on film doesnt sound too bad...lol...hopefully that might be better

  • I didn't even notice scruffiness lol. looks great to me, thanks for this!

  • this is a nice one.

  • excellent vid, thank you!

  • cool vid.. almost as high as me ;)

  • Thanks.

There are a couple of tips in there that will really help.
