  • My wife is allergic to Sucralose and all the of "ose" sweeteners. It puts her into anaphalaxis and off to the ER we go. So while it does not bother me, i do not allow it in the house. EVERYTHING... almost... now has sucralose in it. even toothpaste and mouthwash. We have to check labels on anything that might go into the mouth or lips.

Her allergist said that she is starting to see problems from sucralose more often.

That said, great vids you have here thanks for the info.

  • splenda (sucralose) is not good for you either, but of course this vid is 2 years old lol. Stevia is the healthiest and xylitol is ok too.

  • @Hseegee I agree Splenda's probably not the best in the world, but you could certainly do worse (NASTYTAME!). Stevia and the erythritol/stevia blends are awesome.

  • Is the lax effect from the Maltitol the only thing bad about it? It does not have that effect on me. So does that make it ok??

  • There may be some glycemic effect on your blood sugar as well.

  • Publix brand diet sodas are sweetened with splenda.

  • i can't break my diet soda addiction!!! i have even tried green tea as a replacement. and then bam i get a craving for soda. but...i'mma try hard

  • I still love my diet soda, too. :)

  • Great information! I'm still in induction, but already looking forward to the occasional sweet treat that won't break my carbohydrate bank. I'm heading out now to find Diet Rite soda and Fuze Slenderize.

    Thanks again...Jack

  • Hello Sir, what do you use to substitute Wheat Flour ? I mean, I traied Gluten once, but to my surprise, I tested it with Iodine and its contamined with starch, so I cutted it. also , aspartame with moderation is OK. I drank some 2 liters of a aspartame filled soda however and my hunger came back as if I wasn´t on the diet anymore, I just couldn´t stop eating. but I think if I drank half a litter this wouldn´t happen.

  • You might try coconut flour or almond flour instead.

  • Thanks, but is it coconut THAT low carb ?

  • Coconut FLOUR is. :)

  • is isomalt okay?

  • Isomalt is just another name for maltitol. The food companies realized they needed to do something when people started complaining about the sugar alcohol maltitol, so they changed it to the inconspicuous-sounding isomalt. SAME THING! So, no it's not. :( Sorry!

  • okay what about sorbitol ?

  • Sorbitol is as bad as lactitol and maltitol. I don't eat it. The only sugar alcohol I can tolerate is erythritol because it is high-quality. All the other "--itols" are AWFUL!

  • Christine can't tolerate your trying to be silly sometimes... lol

  • Tis true, tis true! :D

  • I still think sugar is nastier than any sweeteners ...

  • AMEN!!! ;)

  • whats the problem with aspartame ? you know, there are some things Atkins said could put some people off of Ketosis, but it varies from person to person. I drink stuff with Aspartame every day, and nothing like this takes me out of ketosis. Its just like caffeine. it gave me cravings only on the very first days of induction.

  • There have been several studies showing it is linked to various health ailments. For me personally, I get headaches when I consume NASTY-tame--so I avoid it and recommend others avoid it too.

  • well, all I can say is that is has been proven that the link between aspartame and cancer is pretty false if it worries you. the amount of aspartame that could cause cancer is far bigger thahn any person will consume in a day.

  • It's not the cancer research, but more the research on the brain that has me concerned.

  • Sucralose (main ingredient of Splenda, along with dextrose - sugar!) was "discovered" accidentally when lab workers were inventing a new pesticide -- it's chlorinated sugar (i.e. poison)! Check out the book Sweet Deception by Joseph Mercola. Us Stevia instead, it's all natural!!!

  • THANKS for sharing your opinion, ginavoce25, but nobody has proven Splenda is "poison." I agree stevia is an alternative, but the bitterness is not conducive to the palates of most people.

  • Splenda being a "poison" is as unfounded as the supposed ills of a low carb lifestyle. Mercola would have us all eating grass and living in bubbles if he had his way, lay off of the Snake Oil salesmen.

  • Your comments are also unfounded. Splenda has never been proven safe over the long term, either. The FDA's motto seems to be "safe until proven unsafe" --gambling with our health, while it should be "unsafe until proven safe." White sugar is bad enough for our health, but combine it with chlorine and it's suddenly okay? Nonsense.

  • Is he the one who thinks everyone should eat raw meat?

  • Yes, Dr. Mercola believes that.

  • Hi guys - i love your show, it's really great!

But I do have one concern about sucralose (Splenda) because some people are very allergic to it.

So if you encounted anyone having hives or weird symptoms, have them try quitting sucralose (if they are using it) for awhile to see if that helps.

    Thanks!

  • I've never had an issue with Splenda, but feel free to stop using it if you think it is the culprit behind a strange symptom you are having. No studies have found any such side effect, but you gotta do what's right for YOU! :) THANKS for watching!

  • you guys are in the south? :D What parts are you from, eh? ^_^

  • How could you tayell?! LOL! We live in South Carolina. :D

  • I guess Maltitol can effect everyone in a different way. My husband and I like the sugar-free dark chocolate Dove candies a lot. We do fine with them, but we ALWAYS stay within the serving size. I will have to try and order some choco perfection some time. They sound delicious :)

  • ChocoPerfection is AWESOME! Even a little bit of maltitol for me causes BAD problems. One or two pieces of Dove candies would have me writhing in pain for hours.

  • ooo, doesn't sound too fun. Well, everyone is different.

  • If maltitol does not cause you gastric distress, then it means your body is absorbing the carbs in the sugar alcohols. Test your blood sugar after eating the Dove bars to see.

  • Oh, so it may be making my blood sugar go up to high?? I don't eat very many, but I am wanting to order some choco perfection instead. Your new bar sounds de-lish!

  • Yep! Just keep an eye on it because the extra insulin production can stall your weight loss. You're gonna LOVE my chocolate bar, I promise. :D

  • Ok, thanks for the info. I was actually beginning to think that something may have been making me lose weight at a very very slow pace. It seems almost like a stall. Perhaps if I lay off those, I will see better results. Oh I KNOW I will love the your new candy bars.

  • acesulfame k, or say acesulfame potassium, saying ace k highlights your ignorance

  • Actually, enzyme20056, the term ACE-K is the acceptable shorthand name for acesulfame potassium. Look it up! :)

  • Good info.. I had seen fuze but didn't know what it was.

  • Make sure you get the Slenderize line of FUZE. They're not all low-carb, so be careful. :)

  • I've tried some of the sugar-free chocolate and low-carb ice cream (Blue bunny). I would not say it had a laxative effect on me. No, instead, it had a flatulent effect on me! I never had so much gas! The last time, it seemed to start within 30minutes and lasted for 24hrs. That was just the ice cream.

  • One word--MALTITOL! Try to avoid the ones that have a high amount of this sugar alcohol. NOT GOOD!

  • Hey you two :) I just found Fuse at Kroger :) Down here in the South :) It's GREAT!!! I think my daughter will like it too. Thanks for the great videos...they help A LOT!!!

    Peace ^_^V

  • Hmmm, I wish we had Kroger here in SC. I'm still looking for a place to get my Fuze. :D THANKS for your comment and for watching our videos, V.!

  • what about Stevia as a sweetener??

  • Actually, KLConBFL, I mentioned stevia in the original version of this video, but that part had to be deleted since the raw footage exceeded 10 minutes. If you can take the taste of the plant-based supplement stevia, then it's an excellent sugar alternative. The FDA is causing problems with approving it as a sweetener. This will make a good future video topic! THANKS! :)

  • Coca-cola and Cargill are going to introduce a stevia derived sweetener they're calling Rebiana and they are working to get the research needed for FDA approval.

  • Yes, I've blogged about this previously. THANKS for sharing!

  • You have given me more great ideas. Thanks

  • SUPER! Feel free to share them with me anytime at my blog. THANKS, MrNiceGuy28431!

  • Maltitol is like a swear word to me.

  • Kinda like the Tazmanian Devil, right, Doug? #^$E&Q#Y&*(E#Q*&(^

  • THANKS pickll63! It's great to have Christine join me in these videos too. She REALLY enjoys being a part of this fun new way to share about the amazingly healthy low-carb lifestyle.

  • why not aspertame does it prevent weight loss on a low carb diet? will it cause stalls?

  • THANKS for asking about NASTY-tame! It does several things, not the least of which are the headaches. But, yes, there are people who report weight loss stalls when consumed in higher quantities. I've never experienced this with Splenda.

  • Jimmy, these videos are just as informative as your blog! Keep the low carb way of life going.
