  • I know the best-selling horror book currently in the market is the Bible.

  • Comment removed

  • I don't get it, the title says "modern horror novels" ? These books are all old. Can someone please explain

  • @Togle08 Well, most of this novels were written in the 20th century, some of them in the late 20th century.

That's why they are considered "modern".

They were written after the 19th, 18th century, when some of the very first gothic/horror novels and stories were written. Which would be the "classic" novels.

  • @makidtrej Ohh thankyou :)

  • My #1 is the legendary Dracula by Bram Stoker.

  • While I still like The Books of Blood today (and loved them when they first came out), The Damnation Game is, I feel, the best Clive Barker horror, period.

  • Good choice. I thought the Exorcist was an amazing book. I haven't heard of The Doll That Ate Its Mother...it sounds good though

  • Scariest thing about this video was the pic of Stephen King.

  • I'm not saying it's good enough to be in a top ten list, but Black House by Stephen King and Peter Straub is a pretty good horror story.

  • @Legionbass19 I just started reading the talisman. Seems like it's gonna be awesome.

  • @thedon420333 That's a good book.

  • @Legionbass19 Oh shit, I didn't even realize it was you! Anyway, is black house any better?

  • @thedon420333 It's pretty boring for awhile (in my opinion, anyway), but it really picks up. I heard King and Straub are going to write another one to make it a trilogy soon.

  • @Legionbass19 That's cool. I like balls.

  • lol i am legend isnt horror, its action/comedy :D

  • @OmgFtWoW Whatever are you talking about?

Zombie and vampires are NOT HORROR?

Yes, i get the comical part but it is definetly a horror novel overall, considering the subtle comedy in zombie stories and all.

  • @OmgFtWoW The movie was totally different from the novel. The novel was definitely horror.

  • all these writers are geniuses.

  • Horror novel see video book trailer

  • Are this guy have fine mental

  • All subjective-but a solid list.

  • Cult Horror Novel - redcenturystoreDOTcom

  • Cool, but my #1 would be The Road by Cormac McCarthy

  • @BleedingEnglish It is a rather good novel but it would fit in the post apocalyptic sub genre, with JG Ballard`s and John Wyndham`s work.

  • See The Dare Island Enigma book trailer

  • a scary book you should read is neverland by dugg clegg it is the only book that made me so scared I had to sleep in my parents room :)

  • I love horror books/movies/games

  • top ten horror movies

idk but 2 girls 1 cup is no.1

  • Despite everyone thinking otherwise, I find The Haunting of Hill House to be both not scary and boring. To each his own I guess. Hell House by Richard Matheson, however is the scariest book that I have ever read and many people consider them similar.

  • The Haunting of Hill House Shirley Jackson is, IMO, the scariest novel of all time bar none. "Whatever walked there, walked alone..." Fantastic.

  • I read Shirley Jackson's bio a few years ago. Apparently, she was a practicing occultist. She was into voodoo dolls!

  • 3 are not horror, they are thrillers and one is factual.

  • Why the hell is there no way to find books 4-6 of The Books of Blood. Has it not been released yet or something?

  • have u done top 10 crime novels?

  • @u7alll the westies by t.j english

the iceman:confessions of a contract killer, by philip carlo

all the chopper reed books haha

    the guv'nor lenny mclean

killing pablo (don't know author) it's about escobar.

there some good true crime novels i've read, mainly go for bio's. iceman is d best(haha it probably should be in the horror list too, he feeds people to rats while thier still alive :(

  • i LOVE richard laymon!

  • Right now, Stephen King's "Bag Of Bones" is my favorite book. But now Richard Laymon's "Endless Night" is slowly becoming my new favorite :)

  • If ya like stories about the Devil then my new book called Tales of terror from the Irish Hellfire Club by Jason Stanbridge which is out now and availabe to purchase online at most online bookstores. It contains a true tale about the Devil. if ya wanna be scared all night then read it.

  • The exorcist was originally a book? I have to read it! If the movie is amazing the book has to be just as good or even better!

  • @LovelyStrangeWitch2 I have the book and it is very good i love the bit about Regan following a women around the house with her back at a 90 degree angledosent sound to bad but that creeped me out for ages

  • Brian Lumley is TOPS on my list. The Necroscope serious is just too good not to list!

  • Richard Matheson, Stephan King, and Clive Barker are my favorite horror writers. I have to say The Shinning is better then anything book you've had on this list. I've read all the books on this list too. I am Legend is the best on this list. The scariest is either Salems Lot or The exorist novel.

  • Like most of your picks. But I never much cared for Campbell' s novels, do love his short stories though.would have put Matheson's "Hell House" and Straubs "LOST BOY,LOST GIRL" on the list

  • Ghost Story by Straub was fantastic...A great ripping gothic horror!

  • Sorry to arrive and be Mr. Negative but as much as I love his short stories, Ramsey is hugely over-rated as a novelist. Try Incarnate if you don't believe me. I thought it was just me until I read some reviews describing it as scary as a playful puppy. I also remember reading IT as a young man and being transformed and terrorised. We had a killer at large in my hometown when I was a kid and add in a scary clown (arent they all?) and the novel terrified me. I agree with most of the rest thanks.

  • Great list, though I think the Cthulhu mythos should be number one ;P

  • @julianking93 I would have put it as number one but i read The Haunting Of Hill House and i found it quite groundbreaking, a bit more than the Cthulhu Mythos IMO.

  • @makidtrej Fair enough. I actually haven't read The Haunting of Hill House before, but I just love the Cthulhu mythos.

By the way, have you done a list of best sci fi novels?

  • @julianking93 Yes i have. Must be in my videos.

  • @makidtrej - you found 'Haunting of Hill House' more "GROUNDBREAKING" than the Cthulhu Mythos?!? Considering that the Mythos were written in the early decades of the 20th century and contain more dark fantasy imaginings than any writer who had come before, I think I'll assign the 'groundbreaking' tag to Lovecraft and his Mythos. 'The Haunting of Hill House' was certainly a good horror story but by no means 'groundbreaking'.

  • Good list. Some of my personal favourites are on it! Well made video.

  • <3 clive

  • Good video.

I shall be honest, I don't know many of the books.

But what important is...the master of classic horror is there ;)

  • Whatever happened to clockwork orang?

  • i mite hav seen salems lot if i did i lovd it and i saw the exorcist that scared me and my sibs

  • SEEN? Horror N O V E L S.

You READ them, not see them.

Your spelling is atrocious, text talk is suppose to for sending texts messages.

You are killing your mother tongue.

  • Where did you find this first pic, the one of the ruined city?? I want it :D

  • sorry for the late reply i know i took ags to answer yo but you know... school... anyway i just typed post apocalyptic images on google and i found it there

  • @makidtrej..

    No worrys, nice one :D

  • Good list. I also likeThe Other by Thomas Tryon.

  • Good list, I agree with almost all the books. I'm not so sure about number 6 though, I think "Dark Feasts" was a better Campbell novel.

And I know you can only have 10, but some other goods ones are "Something Wicked Comes this Way" and "House of Leaves"

  • decent list :)

  • Thank You...

  • Magnificent. What music did you use?

  • I really don´t know... i used the audio swap here in youtube and chekd the ones who had the same time as my video and i found it on classics it was something about suspence precisely. It fitted perfectly so i just added it. I uploaded it at 1: 30 am, haha i didn´t really cared about music and since they changed the audio in some of my vids, i decided to play it safe this time.

  • I don't find it. Never mind.

Rosemary's Baby is great. I like how evil slowly sneaks into her life by harmless looking family Castevet. Ira Levin is very versatile by the way. He also wrote "The Boys from Brazil."

  • Yes. I haven´t read that one i did read Stepford Wives and i did liked it but i coudn´treally find a genre for it i don´t know... It´s between sci-fi and thriller. I did liked it though.

And yes, Rosemary´s baby is WAY better than the movie and most horror novels.

  • Can't believe you put laymon at 10. Especially the stake which is probably one of his best.
