  • Do u think is gone work on an ati radeon hd 4350 ?, i have same problems... when i try to play a game, after 20 seconds of plaiyng i get a freeze...and vpu recover pops up

  • my 4870 stays at 48 degrees in idle @ 28% fan, while in load stays at 75 degrees @ 42% fan. I'm using ATT e sincerly this is the best graphic cards software i've ever used.

ps excuse my bad english i'm italian ;)

  • My 4870 is getting dirty again so its temps are ~70c at 70% fan speed idle and ~90c %80-100 fan speed load. when it is clean it stays around 60c at 40% fan speed and 70-80c 60-70% fan speed load. I have the HIS iceq cooler and it sounds like a hair dryer when i pump it up. The heat in my case has been making my i7-920 idle around 50-60c when normally it idles 35-40c and maxes at 75c under prime95 load. Im waiting on my Sapphire 6950 to arrive. I hear they have waaaay cooler temps.

  • is the ati 4850 card really safe at 98 load moved my fan speed from default to 62% will this decrease the life of my card?

  • i need help :/ My 4850 temperature when i'm not doing anything is at about 80° WTF!?

When i'm playing something it goes up to 105° and my computer shuts down :/ I put extra FAN on my computer to cool down graphic but it's not helping at all :O Any help?

  • @damaoker The new CCC should have fan controls

  • @Kentalish i have fans at 100% but temprature on graphic card is about 100+*c

  • @damaoker i have the same problem!

  • cool thx man working for me.. ati drivers on automatic is so HOT temprture, and bad I think. But manually when you set it really works and cooled properly.

I have ASUS EAH 4870 ddr5, and thx man!

  • bro i buy xfx ati 4870 few days ago its normal temperature is 65 and it goes very hot 85 on gaming its is ok or not please help me and this profile method is not working on my pc my pc specs are Asus P7h55M-LX core i3 540 xfx ati 4870 thermal take cassing v4 450w power supply branded 4 gb ram ddr3 500gb harddisk
  • @anis5881 Was it new? Should idle around 40-50. 60-80 gaming depends...

Could be dust within the fan/heatsink. I cleared mine out went from 90 gaming to 50. lol

  • This card is too hot.

  • 60/70* Idle Dude seriously?!

  • This is not working for me. I will just have to buy another card.

  • my idle on my 5770 is 34 and load is 49

  • TY man it works great :))

  • actually the video is really good.but it doesnt work for me. The idle temp for mine is 38c and it goes very hot on gaming i think .I have an intel DG41RQ motherboard i think thats why it is not working. Someone help!!!........... nowadays it gives artifacts and within 10 min screen turns black and card is boiling hot!!!! especially in GRID ,lost planet colony

  • I did not understand everything you put in the video but I find nothing stays the same temperature 90 c should decrease but remains the same even if you do not hear any noise either the Restart and nothing was the same please help I have a 4850 hd ddr3 512 and my version is 10.6 ccc win 7 x32-bit I have 3gb ddr3 ram an intel i7 920

  • DOES NOT WORK!!!

  • Random question, I run games on highest graphics FINE with this card, I'm running an E7500 2.9ghz with 2 gig ddr2 ram and a 500 watt PSU, and windows 7 (32bit). It runs nicely BUT when I run any video in full screen mode (downloaded or streamed) the screen freezes and at the bottom right it says your ATI drivers had to be restarted..

I cannot for the life of google find a fix, any ideas? I'm going to try change the fan speed but as I can run games on full no problem I'm running out of options

  • wtf from 70 to 40 =O

  • lol the radeon 4870 is a OC version of the 4850, you make an radeon 4870 by your self easly

  • These cards are designed to handle 100C Plus. 60-80 is ok.

  • @mattg889 not for me...i am having from like 75-90 or a little bit more when im at desktop and when im at any game the game is running smoothly and then the PC crashes and I need to wait a few minutes until I can turn the PC back

  • @AliRemix2009 With my desktop it still has the temps I mentioned in my other comments. I dust it out monthly, I have a 120mm fan sucking air through the case along with a 120mm fan on the psu. Make sure you case is closed, the case needs to be closed to properly direct the air flow. lastly the room i have my computer in is usualy at between 70-75F. If your room is higher it may cause problems.

If any of these factors are different for you then you should look into them.

  • @mattg889 well now its rainy outside and its cold even in interiors so now its not the problem...im getting finally the PC for repair so i hope everything will be ok then...

  • If you have heat problem's with these card make sure your case has adequate ventilation!!!. I have 2 temp controlled 120mm fans on my case... I have a 4850 single slot card that I have never had a problem with. It Idles at around 60C and tops out at 80C in a 23C room...

  • I just downloaded the new ATI Control Centre and can't seem to find the overdrive button? Like i can click on the section however everything is blanked out and i can't select anything......

  • Ah never mind found it lol

  • do it destroy the graficcard fan becuse if it dont i would like to try this :D

  • My video card temps were always high in any computer I used until I bought an Antec 900 pc case. Whoo boy did the heat temps die down fast!

  • heh i still don't have the option to change the fan speed in 9.11..stupid 4850 -.-

  • wow you guys worrying about your cards hitting 70

my 4870 is at 68-70 idle, 82-3ish on light games, anything demanding games it goes up to 90+

you guys are worried. im shitting my pants, i need help/advice lol

  • @blackzerokl Make sure your case has good ventilation... And make sure you don't have any dust causing problems.

  • Hi guys i m planning to get a new XFX ATI 4870 1 gb card...would u recommend it?i mean r the heating problems serious???

  • @umair376 you wont have any heating issues

  • @umair376 i jus today got minee , and i have too heat problem is huge . Im so mad rite know , it got too much heat in upper level but the rest is cool im trying to find that help's me to fix it

  • mine goes 90 , it has not burned

  • will speeding up the fan cause any problems? will it use more power or shorten the life span of the card? cuz i could put as much as i need the noise doesnt really bother me but i dont want to risk putting the fan too high.

  • It will wear out your fan if you have it on high all the time.

  • i was a little bit confused it only reaches 60º of temperature... and it does work fine for me!

  • my hd4850 reachs 70º temperature when i play...is it fine?

    im also worrying...!!

  • no is need to be in 30 normal

and with hardcore games around 40-50

  • no ur specs are like melting with that tempature

  • maiden666acces your should really keep for 4850 under 75

    else it burns away

  • Thanks for the time and effort, Kent.

    This is greatly appreciated.

    -Ty

  • People, download newest catalyst software, enable ati overdrive + Manual fan controle and your done

  • Hey, I'm about to get a 4870 tmrw. So all I have to do is update the drivers in setup to gain access to fan speed? No need for "hacks", yes?

    Thanks,

    -Ty

  • Yes, go to the amd site, go to the catalyst driver , donwload the driver + the other software, otherwise you only get the driver.

    Easy as that :)

  • I had a dimond 4870 with there new gpu cooler with the heat pipes and my card was always running at 70 celcius.

I also had nothing but driver problems with mine.

  • my card is getting 47 degreese celcius on lowest overdrive.. but when i have full overdrive its about 57 degreeze

    are those bad?

    im worrryinggggg =(

  • no not likely mine are full i have amd phenom x4 nd 8 gig of ram and mine is 67 degrees and thats water cooled to so nothinbg to worry about ans please could u chech out my pc set up thanks

  • what about overdrive... i have it on overdrive and i end up having graphic errors in games.. like squares everywhere.. its so annoying

  • i thought that the 4800s graphic card the factory makes it handle 90° plus?

  • yea but its also not good to have a really hot card the colder the better.. plus you never know you could have you card at 90 then it gets hot in your room then you play a game like crysis at high settings and it goes up and you wont know what temp you have if you dont have a second monitor or a g-15 keyboard

  • It doesn't change for me! Speed of the fan and then temp stays the same!

I did everything you said i needed to..

    :(

  • i cant get good temperatures....

    idle around 60°

    full sometimes >90°

the VGA cooler is running at 80% (60% makes idle around 70°)

    what can it be? dirt?

  • Perhaps. Try taking out your graphics card and your VGA cooler and see if there's any dirt or dust in them that needs to be removed.

My CPU almost blew up because of that xD

  • lol blew up

    i thiink it'd melt wouldn't it?

  • 60 is still good... if u have the new driver you should be able to adjust the fan speed on the video card

  • the temp is normal for the card dont warry about turning up the fans just leave it on automatic cooling, like i sed the card was made to handle these temps and it will cool itself as needed.

  • Nice Movie Bravoo

My ATI Radeon Sapphire 4870x2 with Catalist 9.3 Is make alone the Spped fan or no i make manual my setings fdirect from Catalist.

My Videocard with 40% Spped Fan in Iddle 55 and Play or 3D aplication 75 degrees celsius but i love when i Turn ON the 100% Speed Fan will not be a big Diferance in to a Helicopter and my Videocard :))

    AMD-ATI RADEON Best Choice

  • Hello i just wonder. I getting meny VPU recovery errors latley with my ATI 4850. It says "VPU recovery has reset you grafics accelerator" It can't be from the other computer components. This is my specs

    AMD Phenom 9650 oc ~ 2.6Ghz

    790x DS4 mobo

    2Gb Ram

    800W power supply

    ATI 4850 oc 670Mhz 1138Mhz

Good case with good cooling. Everything is cool no overheating... I just keep getting this enoying errors when i playing games surfing on the webb....

Very nice for some good responses :)

  • Nice tutorial.

I keep my Hd4850 fan @ 29% and im idling at 54 degrees celsius. And when playing something like GRID i keep fan speed @ 42% and temps never go over 65 degrees celsius.

Thats pretty good for reference card i think.

  • thenks

  • get the mew driver and u wont need to do this

  • Where's the driver for the 4870? Link please i can't find it anywhere...

  • The new 8.10 drivers from ATI for teh 4800 series cards have a fan control right in CCC no no need to do this anymore

  • i bought a 4870 club 3d

i hate the idea to manually change fan speeds

    with nivdia everything happend automatic

is their a solution for this?

  • the fan speed automatically changes when it thinks it needs to.

manual fan speed'ing is just..you know, manual.

  • on automatic fans run at 64%

    which is very loud

i want it to stay at 35% and when needed/ like in gaming automaticly switch to 64%

  • it does change it automaticly, if it needs it will use 80% of fan, and Nvidia doesnt use full fan speed either.

And err... new ati drivers u can do everything to run as automatic or u just make the fan run at 50-80% all the time... but its good to have the temp at 60-80c

so the power of the card can really be max used

  • yea I got that today thank you so much.

  • Just update the Catalyst software, a manual fan control is included in the update!

  • can you link to the uppdate PLEASE!

  • manual is like a car u have to operate it your self.... automatic is it makes the fan go faster when it thinks it needs to

  • one question...

    your running on vista

on xp is the same procedure?

    oh

and the hd4870x2 software is the same?

i can adjust the fan of it like that?

  • Thanks very much, take a look where you change that fan speed I did it wrong the first time

  • thanks man!!! it really works

  • my friend has xp and he has the same types of folders as me

  • On my computer (Running XP Pro) the folder that the profile file is stored in is \Documents and Settings\Username\Local Settings\Application Data\ATI\ACE\Profiles

Where Username is the logon name for windows. The video had me looking for local in appdata instead of appdata in local which was frustrating since there are two appdata folders...but other than that this works nicely.

  • Kent, I added you on skype. I followed everything exactly and heard no change in fan speed, plus my temps were slowly creeping up as they were before. My skype is "adreamofspring" you don't need to call me just open a chat to help. I have a sapphire ati 4870 1gb video card.

  • thanks bro!

  • GREAT!!!! MAN REALY THANKS !!! i didnt have fucking clue how rise my hd4870 x2 fan under vista 64bit... THIS solve the problem .. finally :D THANKS !!!!!

  • I set the fan speed to 30% on my HD 4870 and the temperature went down from 79°C to 55°C.

  • the graphic card already comes with a cooler?

  • Yes...when i play Dirt the temperature of grahic card is 72ºC, if i put fan speed 40ºC is relly noice and the result is the same when i put fan speed 30ªC.

  • hummmm

    imagine a ATI HD 4870 1gb DDR5

can i play doom 3 in ultra quality easily?

    and Quake 4?

  • oh yeah deffinetly

  • yeah

  • but good? :P

    no breaks and all? :-D

  • It's the second highest single gpu card on the market now, so yeah you'd be good

  • :-D

  • good because im thinking of buying one :P

  • oki :D

lol someone marked you as spamm

    xD

  • :O

whats the best one right now?

  • he says make sure you have overdrive enabled

what does he mean by that?

  • It's just a setting in the catalyst control center that lets you change the clocking on the card and stuff.

  • You have to click that lock button to unlock it. Otherwise it won't take effect.

  • cant find this directory (C/users) on xp. i tried the Documents and settings/user name but there isnt the app data folder in there

  • lanksar try clicking on the lock that is on the overdrive page

  • humm speeding it up wont "hurst" too much wont it? :P

im a noob at this xD

  • Great tutorial!

Even a noob like me colud do it!

    thx again!

  • Hi great tutorial. However it doesnt work for me. When I go into the overdrive in the catalyst settings all of the options are greyed out. Also it seems that it isnt monitoring the temperature of the card as it just says 0. When I create the profile I have overdrive checked. Any ideas? Thanks.

  • Good and simple tutorial video =)

Already found this trick on the internet, but this video makes things more clear.

Works great on my Sapphire 4850.

Running at 45% keeps the cards temp. nicely around 52 degrees celsius. And still the noise aint loud at all at this fan speed.

  • Good video man! I love those easy tutorials...

  • Glad I could help

  • I set the fan speed to 40 percent on my HD 4850 and the temperature went down from 78°C to 50°C. Great tutorial!

  • and if this screws over your card... which it wont it doesn't void the warranty

  • no problem im glad i helped

  • thanks for the video, im getting my 4850 in a few days. will turning up the fan speed lower the life of the card? ^^

  • I have a feeling that was sarcasm but just incase anybody else doesnt know, nah,it should increase the life! ^^

  • lol no, no sarcasm ^^ was accualy curious, ide hate to buy a card then mess it up by messing with the fan speed =P again thanks

  • Im guessing it would use more power from your psu and cools your card

  • For the 3870X2 you have to edit the settings below aswell ............fanspeedRPMTarget_1 etc,not just the ones in this video, its because it has these same setting but has another set aswell for the 2nd core,i manualy edited both sets of them the same way and it worked!!!!Thanks again!

  • Thanks man!!!

  • Just found out this works with all ATI video cards

  • What about 3870X2?

  • fist mmmmmm taste the glory
