You know what, I believe in God myself, but I really don't blame this man for becoming an atheist. The Christians have done SO much damage by presenting misunderstood, confused, and contorted portrayals of God and Jesus. In my opinion, organized religion is one of the greatest dangers to spiritual and our relation to the Creator.

This is heartbreaking! She (Phelps' wife) allowed that devil to hurt her children! She chased him into the arms of the devil! What it must be like to never see your children or grandchildren. Those people are simply mad.

I am very sad that he became an atheist. But, it just goes to show how insane his family is. They chase their own kin away with their madness. It's a shame it sent him completely away from a true, loving God.

Wonderful, amazing. All the very reasons I find issues with all religions. Thanks so very much for speaking up.Actually the Westburo Church is following to the letter the bible...this is what one gets when humanity does this. They seem to lose compassion and morals just as in the OT stories.

I cannot imagine the kind of courage it takes to transcend such severe abuse and grow into a person so rational and compassionate. I am inspired and strengthened by this testimony. I don't know how one might prevent the Westboro Baptist Church from continuing to inflct emotional harm upon the world, but I think Nate Phelps' calm, honest, reasonable presence is one antidote.
