The only living animal i can think of that could be called a living dinosaur would be the Tuatara from New Zealand which actually belongs to the Sphenodontia order (from which lizards and snakes evolved from). A 500 year old lizard would look like a dinosaur to me, and the word dinosaur wasn't even invented until the 1800s, which simply means "terrible lizard". The human head also never stops growing, which easily if not passively explains heads found that don't look like humans or chimps but in the middle.

But I am hesitant to claim that they fall neatly within any classification we have today. It is easier to believe that they are in a class of their own, and had their own way of coping with survival - a way that was less favored than birds, mammals, and even reptiles... thats why we exist today, and dinosaurs don't.
