@katcabrera4 Well, technically the part is supposed to be played by a black woman. Aida is nubian and so were the slaves in the play...all from Nubia.
Aida has a great voice...the last note was really good, whether she belted it or not. The quality of the sound and the video wasn't the best though, so I'm sure it would've sounded even better if the quality of the actual video was a little higher.
hey great job! i've seen this done many times professionaly and highschool level. In comparison to most it was really good. I don't agree with "Tyaldo22" it was appropriate for HS level/voices. Also, most theatrically or musically educated people that are black will tell you that you don't have to be black to sing gospel or to sing with soul. Who can define soul anyways? haha. well this is just youtube so I won't go all philosophical but keep it up Milford!
Wow tyaldo22 has the nerve to call her fat, everyone should go to his page and see him try to rap about soap, not thats funny! PS she might be fat but your a fugly skinny little boy who thinks he can rap, seriously some people are so lame and act all big on the internet
woah there tiger, my raps make this play look like 3rd graders trying to do shakespeare. This little aida...i mean this big aida and the rest of these actors are not supposed to be doing this play cause its for black peopleand egyptians, or people who look black or egyptian
do you know how seriously hard it is to belt that?
and how seriously dangerous it is for voices of singers who aren't as trained and haven't had as much experience as the professionals? she sounded great, but they need a better sound system. the end sounded like a mix between a nice voice and a tv that's not working
Um, yes, I do know how difficult it is to belt that last note. I also know that it's possible to be trained to do it... and it's not like it takes years to learn how. I've seen plenty of productions, even in high schools, where Aida has belted that note without harming herself.
for the record. it's belted. the sound system on this thing is down the shitter. and if they didn't turn it down you probably wouldn't have heard the note as much. yeah. it could be belted louder. but deal with it? haha.
everyone knows what a belt sounds like. why don't you do it and post it if you're so classy. rachel did it fine. and probs. better than any other teenagers would.
dude you have no idea what your talking about. First of all there are a lot of girls who cause damage to there voices because they dont take care of it,and yes it takes all great singers years to fine tune there voices. Second many women who played Aida on Broadway did not belt that last note. Michelle Williams and Toni braxton did not belt those notes. So if your so into belting go watch some Wicked clips and leave her alone cause she was great.
Maybe you should go read the reviews for Michelle Williams and Toni Braxton - both were panned for their awful interpretations of Aida. And as someone who is studying voice and theatre right now, I think I know what I'm talking about. Yes, it takes years to "fine tune" your voice. But you are not going to do permanent damage to your voice by belting a note like that for what, 3 nights? Is that how long a high school show runs? I'm entitled to an opinion, and at least mine is an informed one.
Dude this is a school edition, the music does not have to be the same, my school did Aida and we were selected out of all the high schools to go to ITA and alot of the music was changed in our show. And if your studying voice then you would know that most high schools do a 7-14 day run not 3 and that requires months of practice, so yes you can damage your voice. And you would also know that in Dace of the robe the last note should be sang in the Head voice not belted!
Why would studying voice make me an expert on the score of Aida? Or why would that entitle me to know about the performance schedules of high schools? The schools in my area do ONE weekend. Oh, and take a little listen to the cast album - Heather Headley belted that note. The local high school girl I saw, not a professional by any means, belted it. Others on this site belt it. Now stop arguing.
i dont really know why you're still going on about this. i am this effing 'aida' you keep going on about. i appreciate your so-called opinion. but i wouldnt go as far as to say that it is informed and assume that i havent listened to the cast album or other highschools. i have. so thanks for your opinion and get off your high horse. you're not the only one studying music and theater.

OH all of you that dislike the sound of aida's voice... i'm sympathetic towards your poor ears they must be under alot of presure!
i understand that the quality of this video is not the greatest but if you over look that she has an AMAZING voice...
if you listen to her sing anything other then aida you will realize that she does have an amazing voice!

Aida was an amazing singer, but the microphone quality made the whole thing a bit difficult to listen to...

umm No that note is not ment to be song in chest voice!!!! and it is ment to be belted!! u fail twice.
turf09 3 years ago
@turf09 i think it's best to do a mix voice for that note, but she didn't do that either. even so, it was still a decent job.

Supposed to be for people who are egyptian huh? It's a musical. Musicals have acting.
Acting- the art, profession, or activity of those who perform in stage plays, motion pictures, etc.
Now let's look at what you're doing...rapping. About soap.
Really?

the note sounded fine when she sang it. and yes. it sounds like crap on here, but if you were there, you'd know it sounded great.
and there was more dancing on the side, it just wasnt shown here.

To add to this argument,
who cares if rachel BELTED it or not, she hit ALL of the NOTES!
That's mainly what's important in this song.
I don't care who knows what the hell kind of a score the music is, or who got what in colledge, I love this song, and the way rachel sang it.
the end!!!
