  • Altered beast was on the t16?

  • hehehe KOOOOL!

  • only system to get street fighter 1 and splatterhouse, not counting download or on a remake of the games disc

  • hate to spoil the love fest here, but tg-16 sucked in 1989, and it sucks now. i had it for 8 months, and after being a true believer for a while, finally gave up and traded my tg16 and 10 games for a genesis and 3 games.

  • "YES DUDE!!!! I just got my ass kicked" *Hand Five"

  • Fighting street?

  • @TheLokiFace Otherwise known as the first Street Fighter.

  • Are these systems worth millions yet? cus I've still got 2

  • I liked the part where the vid was retro

  • @KSWR500Z In a few days there will be a news story about some guy that strangled his parents with a nintendo controller wire.

When you see it - remember this post.

  • In 1990, I was the only person I knew who had a TG-16. It was awesome because, since they were not selling there were all these ridiculous buy 1 get 1 free sales for games. I think there was even a buy 2 get 3 free sale at one point. I had a ton of games due to that. Even though I had the other systems at the time, everyone always wanted to play the TG-16 when they came over.

  • flash back my mom had worked for NEC in Hawthorne CA. and got me one free like in 91. but none my friends wanted to play more hung up on SEGA now 33 yrs old I feel like going to my moms house and looking in the atic on put on Ebay... for some gas money lol.

  • @ondezws damn thats sad.... dont even play her anymore.. lol im 23, played it when I was 4 and I cant let go of the tg-16

  • What the hell man! Why wasn't this ever shown on TV??? I so would of asked my parents to buy me a TG16 if I had known this thing even existed before it was on the verge of dying and you could buy this thing for like $50 at Radio Shack cause it was discontinued!!!

  • @sylvur They did ran shorter ads on TV, but this tape was meant to be played as a demo in stores.

  • what is that game before 1:51? please i need 2 know i played it 24/7 when i was 2 and surprisingly i still remember the same sound effects and everything!!!!

  • @ShabooMaster the legendary axe

  • @RD400D78 yeah i got it on my psp now

  • "only the best"-JJ and Jeff and Deep Blue lol.

  • Who is the narrator of this video??

  • lol they even show the flicker in the games.

  • @123doomdoom This is way back in the late 80s. People don't care and know what flickers are back then. This may look horrible today, but not to people back in the days!

  • @2:10 are they cheering and high fiving each other because the guy lost at Fighting Street? Because they totally lost that match.

  • LOL some one should send them a letter to that address

  • This console is pure win. A must for any retro gaming fan and collector.

  • 1:44 UNBELEIVEABLE SOUND AND VISCOUS PICTURE!! *8-bit audio chirps*

    XP

  • @ 1:27 these two asshole faking like they are playing need to get their asses kicked.

  • 4:00

    HOLY SHIT!

It looks like HE'S REALLY PLAYING!

I've never seen anyone act like they're actually playing games instead of just mashing buttons and shaking the controller.

  • when did this system come out, 1989?

  • I Wish I Could Buy A TurboGrafx-16 On eBay, Or Maybe A TurboDuo, It's Up To Me.

  • Fighting Street? lol... hmm that sounds kinda familiar!

  • That military madness looks a lot like famicon wars.

And furthermore, most of these games look sweet as. I wish I had a turbografx back in the day.

  • I wonder if it would've catched on if they didn't alter it so much from the PC-Engine

  • What was that girl doing @ 10:34? It looked like she was giving a sexual favor to the player in question. Ha!

  • 2:42 uhhahaaaaayeah! LOL!

  • 2:09 YES!! WE LOST!!

  • NEC failed to bring a lot of games from japan that would have done really well, specially JRPGs. then again sega made the same mistake with the saturn back in the day.

  • BULLSHIT

  • @sygo7g and I was only born when it came out

  • Sigh, I miss the good old days :(

  • I wish NEC and Hudson made another console...

  • @gshowguy They Did! The PC-FX was the 32 bit successor to the PC-Engine/TurboGrafx but it was never released outside of Japan.

  • @kidonlyle I know. I was just saying it would be cool for NEC and Hudson to get back in the console market like what Sega's about to do with the Ringedge.

Don't forget about the supposed "upgrade" known as the SuperGrafx-- that too, never saw the light of day outside of Japan. (And only five games were released! :-O)

  • Some many great memories watching this video over and over again before i got the system!!!!

  • So many great memories watching this video over and over again until i bought the system!!!!!

  • What is the game they show at the 10:43-11:07 mark? I guess it was Japan only? Would like to have that on Wii VC or my actual TurboGrafx if it's a USA release as well

  • 2:43... Haha oh yea!

  • 16 bit power/!??!?!?!? Thats like dividing by zero

  • It's so funny.. I remember watching these commercials back in the day and being like.. OMG the graphics look amazing.. little did I know that's nothing compared to gaming today!

  • they just dont make commercials/promo vids like they used to :)

  • I like at 2:09 how those idiots cheer at how they got their ass kicked by Mike in Fighting Street. (You can only play as Ken or Ryu in that game.)

  • LOL dude's expression at 2:40 made me laugh for some reason.

  • 2:41

    Too many funny moments.

  • 2:16

    Rock'n!

  • 'Unbelievable selection of titles'.

    Bonk's Adventure, anyone?

  • @marcusmalone Don't you dare slander Bonk. It would have been a much better pack-in title than Keith Courage.

  • @sadeviant hehe. This is true.

  • @sadeviant

They DID pack in bonk, after it was too late to make a difference.

  • @ddaynyc Too little, too late: the sad legacy of the TG-16 in America. Maybe if TTi had gotten a hold of the machine sooner, but who knows...

  • @sadeviant Certainly. They really needed a better pack-in title than that.

  • I love my turbo so much

  • 3:24

    "the evil place"

    LOL

  • Yeah, they really rushed Legendary Axe to release. 'What should we call the evil place?' "F**k it, just call it that'.

  • lol vicious pictures!

  • also, 4:15 lol

  • 1:58 "nearly limitless levels of challenge and excitement!" lol

  • Alien Crush is soooo cool!

  • No.

  • Hey, they showed a Super Grafx game. That's cheating!!!

  • lol 10 more colours xD

  • 10 TIMES more ;)

  • More colors with an aenmic processor that's slowdown city. THAT"S ALL WIN!!!

  • In the side scrollers you see the sprites partially disappear, this must be due to the INCREDIBLE 16 bit POWER, ARGH.

  • Wow! Are those kids having seisures?

Do you need a doctor nearby when playing this thing?

  • I don't think they said "action" enough times

  • i loled

  • i want the full system!

  • Those crazy kids dancin' to their hippity hop music!!!!!

  • They celebrate getting beaten at 2:08

  • Comment removed

  • Grafx for graphics.

  • The Dude got his ass kicked in Fighting Street (SF1) and he pretends he won LOL!! time 0205. Love this machine and the Turbo Express.

  • 3:23 Penetrate the EVIL PLACE!

    8:18 WTF?!

10:45 It's the opening cut scene of Zero Wing 2!

I have a feeling this infomercial is similar to what Time Share meetings sound like.

  • This commercial may be a little dated, but hands down, the TG16 is still my favorite system of all time. There have been many times that the likes of Halo and Call of Duty have taken a back seat to Bloody Wolf and Sinistron.

  • 2:42 Ho-Oh yeah!

    4:48 Sensational Sound! LOL

  • 2:19 EPIC LOL!!!!!!!!!!!

  • compared to nes, this was awesome

even some genesis games looked worse

  • 2:08 WTF?

  • classic. had this video sent to me after i visited the demo tent at the State Fair of Texas so many years ago. got the system not too long after that. sure, it was doomed but there were decent games to be played.

  • I never got a tape, but I remember spending most of a day at the Ca. State Fair playing TG16 and just being blown away!

  • I saw N64 VHS's that were much lamer than this, and that was a successful system/half a decade later. You just have to put yourself in the mindset of the time man. As ddaync says.

Imagine the only video games you've ever seen have been Atari, then NES and then THIS.

The graphics really would have been impressive. I'm just glad I didn't see this vid at the time because it would have made me want one. Does now anyway lol.

  • I understand that the TG16 had impressive graphics and on-screen action for the time. I got one soon after it came out. I wasn't criticising the system, even though it was a dissapointing peice of sub-standard garbage. All i'm saying is the promo video is really lame and did not address the videogaming ppl but rather their parents (who usually knew nothing about video games).

  • Ahh lol. Yeah it was sub-standard compared to systems that came soon after as I understand. Since it still had an 8bit processor. And well, you play to the people with money I suppose XD. I was an infant at the time though I did have an (already old but new-to-me) NES and then SNES as a kid, so I do know of the wow factor in 8 to-16bit transition.

And well selling things to kids so they can bug their parents into buying wasn't always as effective as it is today after all.

  • new systems are just to much its just not fun anymore, tomany buttons.

  • I liked how they high fived eachother even though they lost while playing in fighting street lol

  • If they saw todays graphics, the creators would smash the console

  • Graphics like these are featured in popular games for the world's number one game system.

  • try to look at in context with what came before it. Atari 2600, nes, all that stuff. If THOSE systems were what you were raised on, you'd be as amazed as we were when this system came out. At the time of its release, it was the best looking system on the market, and the closest experience to actual arcade gaming, which was the benchmark for graphics until systems like PS2 came out in the late 90's and 2000's.

  • at least the graphics, not the gameplay

  • Graphics worse the flash? You do realize that this was the first true 16-bit console :P, you should have more respect for our video game ancestors.^^

  • It's 8-bit, what a scam.

  • @TekmonX You said it bud!!

  • 2:20 you really get a sense these guys hated doing this commercial.

  • Oh my god! I actually had this VHS tape as a kid. Had the system too XD

    Thanks for posting this up!

  • Anyone know where to find the song from the "No-Ri-Ko" game at 09:56? It's kinda catchy.

  • It should be CD audio, so you can just play or rip it right off the disc. It sells for like $1 - $5.

  • I think that's like some kind of weirdo jap dating sim for otaku shut-ins.

  • i also like in the beggining how they walk into the room like indiana jones style and act like they've never been there IN that room before and the system just came out of no where like a freaking pot of gold

  • i remember the time.....))))

  • Funny jackwilcock96. A mint TG16 is worth more than your PS3.

  • 01:59 Fighting street

    they bastardised my childhood

  • In all these promos, they promise the moon LOL!

  • wow now im guna trade in my ps3 for one of them lol

    only jokin

  • 2:53-2:54 look at the baseball player's name on the right!

  • TOAST

  • Bonk's Adventure was a great game and i still think Bonk's character has selling power they should look into making it for a current gen system i know it would sell because there is no more mascot games so the market is open.

  • I think I might write NEC now and tell them to import the PC engine golf game! Cutting edge!

  • God, why don't they make simple, fun games like these anymore?

I still have this promo video. I always loved how at 2:00 they lose in Fighting Street and act like they won. Classic.

  • @KarateCop

ahah...maybe theyre happy because MIKE was a connational...lol:)

  • HAHAHAHA 2:22 HOLY SHIT!!!!!

  • we bought one of these for my brothers birthday in '89 the year it was released and me and him were floored by it's graphics, sound and colours. Little did he or I know that someday we'd be emulating (and stealing) these very games on our PC...wow how times change.

  • Wow that military madness looks an awful lot like Advance Wars.

  • Fighting Street! ROFFFFFFL

  • lol@ 2:19

  • wow!

  • For a system that came out in 1989.. this was very impressive and ahead of it's time!

  • neutopia is a copy of zelda

  • Thanks for clearing that up! :P

  • he called street fighter fighting street

  • That's the title of the console port.

  • actually, that is the name of the game

  • lol 2:20

  • omg 2:42 .... he looks like he's having so much fun that taking a shit can wait! also... those some nice "f**k faces" they r making as they play

  • 5:08 looks fun

  • I LOVE the dance choreography lmao!!

  • This is actually very informative for being a vhs advertisements, yes its cheesey, but I loved how at the end it explained where the tg16 came from and pce, now I know all about the pce and such already, but I thought in the end this was just a good informative commercial!

  • yea, I find it strange why products from other manufacturers try to find a branch product's origin. Like how chevy won't let you know the camaro is made from holden, and Toyota won't let you know the GS300 in Japan is called aristo and has twin turbos

  • Hmm... Altered Beast doesn't seem to look or sound as good as its Mega Drive cousin there! =P

  • I'm not sure which of the two PC Engine ports of Altered Beast that was from, but the boss fights in particular are nicer looking on PCE than on MD and that particular bgm track also holds up well on real hardware.

  • That was a neat piece of video game history.

  • Can you still listen to the sound effects/music without the Turbo Booster?

  • The Turbo Booster just gives you composite and stereo out instead of just RF.

The Turbo Booster Plus also provides backup ram like the Turbo-CD, Sega-CD, Saturn, etc.

  • 0:50 TOAST!

  • 4:50 what was tha game Please help me !

  • Keith Courage, followed by Legendary Axe.

  • "Turbo Grafx entertainment super system" Kinda gets on my nerves when he saids it on 0:23

  • Fighting street is a total rip-off of Street Fighter. It even has the same font and one of the characters looks like Ryu No wonder this thing failed.

  • Fighting Street IS Street Fighter. They just changed the name of the port. That's why it says 1987 CAPCOM on the title screen.

I guess you've never seen Street Fighter before, because Fighting Street is an almost identical port.

Fighting Street was a CD game made for the japanese TG-16. "This thing" recieved over 700 games and was only surpassed by the Super Famicom (SNES) that generation.

Meanwhile the Megadrive (japanese Genesis) trailed behind and in the end wasn't any competition.

  • Man I had a TurboGrafx 16 and I did like some of the games. I loved The Bonk's Adventure Series. Order of the Griffin was decent. Final Lap Twin was a really fun RPG/Racing Game and a few others WITH CD QUALITY SOUND haha...

  • MIND-BLOWING CD QUALITY SOUND!!!!!

  • Starting on 8:29 and ending on 8:31 is one of my favorite HUCARD games ever released on the PC-Engine. It is called "Benkei Gaiden" and it is developed and published by Sunsoft for the PC-Engine in 1989. It is Sunsoft's very first RPG.

  • 0:43 Raider's Of The Lost Ark! 0:50 Toast? 1:14 A kick in the dick! 1:18 A knee to the tit! 1:21 Another dick kick! 1:28 A punch to the dick! 1:59 Fighting Street? is that near Sesame Street? 3:04 Victory Run looks alot like Outrun. 3:13 Alien Crush. This does not have anything to do with Loving The Alien by David Bowie. 3:15 In the top left corner, there is a scrotum with a little penis under it. 3:25 Legendery Ass more like, penetrate more than the evil place.
  • Lol@2:21

  • One question I have about the Turbo Grafx is, is the system 16 bit or 8 bit?

I know it has a 16 bit graphics processor, but what about the other processor, I read that it has an 8 bit CPU, but I'm really not sure.

  • Technically, the cpu is 8-bit, but for all intents and purposes the console is at least equal to the Genesis and SNES in overall performance.

The cpu speed is more or less equal to the Genesis cpu, it's double the SNES cpu speed and it can do twice the mips of the Genesis.

Just the same, the Intellivision has a true 16-bit cpu, but it's nowhere near as powerful as an NES.

In the end, the bits of a console's cpu back then weren't a measure of overall performance or class.

  • was "fighting streets" an intentional rip off of street fighter?

  • It is Street Fighter. They just changed the name. You can see the Capcom copyright on the title screen.

  • Why they change the name? Street Fighter sounds way better. Fighting Streets sounds retarded!

  • The most legitmate sounding story I've heard was that at the time Capcom couldn't license out it's games to Nintendo's competitors or something and that a name change was a loophole in the contract.

  • "penetrate the evil place".. sounds painful

  • You mean like "Satan's Alley"?

  • Don't know if this is already mentioned, but when they showed Fighting Street the kids cheered when they lost.

  • I noticed that too...

  • LMFAO

    'LIKE IN FIGHTING STREET'

  • hahhaha the music CD feature XD

  • 16 bit power,arcade graphics,dam we come along way

  • Wow, I'm amazed such a system that came out in the late 80's to early 90's can handle voice acting, CD-support, and such great Japanese games. Awesome! They should bring games like this AND Rondo of Blood, to the VC!

  • This is much better than Sega's advertising.

  • how so?

Sega's advertising was hilarious, plus it displayed other companies for what they really were.

  • I like Sega, but I thought their advertising was different, I do have quite a few Sega systems such as the Genesis, Nomad, 32X, Saturn, and Dreamcast, but their ads were different.

I guess it's good to be different if everyone else does the same thing.

  • this is so 80's i love it

  • Wow, the dancing at 2.20 is just....wow gotta love this stuff

  • now when they show the game for PC Engine none of the game were never made for the Turbografx-16 except Bloody Wolf,Power League Baseball, and outrun for the Turbografx-16 but it would have been weird if they made Topgun for the Turbografx-16

  • well the system didn't make alot of hits back then but you can get them now on the nintendo wii which is awesome

  • they look like normal 8 bit games

  • Someone's never seen an eight bit game... :)
