Wonderful indeed. He performed this at the Regal theater before it closed on 47th Street in Chicago. Having experienced Mr. Stewart and many of songs at that theater, I can say that he was one of t he best that ever graced the stage. Had his own band, singers, he was smooth as silk with diamonds sparkling and sharp as heck. Awesome. I am happy I had those experiences. Peace and RIP Mr. Steward. :D
And so, just when you might think he only had "a few good ones", Billy Stewart reminds us once again just HOW FANTASTIC he truly was. This one is among the greatest recordings every made in music. Perfection when it happens in the world....so rare, but it does happen. Every aspect (every part of the vocals and band work) of this song, this recording, is flawless perfection. It's mind-bending.
Thanks so much 4 this. I haven't heard it in a long time since Jerry Blavat dances in Philly !! I loved this fat boy from Baltimore , man could he sing and sadly die so young.
i have never even heard of this song until i heard the jay elect. sample. now, i love this song just as much as jay's song. thats part of the beauty of hip hop, sampling makes you go dig up other artist and in some cases bring old artist back.

@johnmayes04 Sampling is horrible. Its stealing somebody else s creativity. Back in the day they played their instruments and sang and they had no technology. Today music is a joke for the most part. Hip hop rap even most of today's jazz is a joke. Rock too. Seriously who cares who sampled what. What matters is who played and sang the original tune. Who wrote it etc.
@MikeHF you must be completely deaf, listen to this song sampled in Exhibit C by Jay Electronica and tell me it's stealing, because it sounds nothing like this. the idea of sampling isn't to steal its to build upon whats already there. theres no way you can imitate the sound of sampling because its the unique sound of so many instruments and sounds being chopped up and re-arranged. its the basis of hip-hop and most original jazz cats disagree with you.
@FKRAPCITY I have been a musician since the mid 70s. Most if not ALL jazz cats agree with me. Hip hop and sampling is a slap in the face to soul music and the musicians that played it. And no I will not listen to sampling or should I say stealing classic melodies and chop them up as most non musicians and computer geeks are capable of doing. Listen to Miles Davis Four and more and if you have the capacity to understand it you will get more enjoyment out of that versus sampling.
@MikeHF i enjoy listening to Miles Davis. and i doubt they all do since i don't think i can name a (good) famous hip-hop musician whos father or mother isnt a famous jazz musician. for someone whos been a musician for so long, you sure do have a narrow-minded and unenlightened view on the matter.

You've got it backwards,Trello. Billy Stewart was the original singer on this song. It was recorded 33 years ago in 1967. Jay Electra is copying a song that came out hefore he was even born!
@claafrica Sampling has gotten lame. What really offends me is not so much the sampling,But the young people who have NO USE for these Great Artists& these Great Tunes until one of their Hero's sample it, Then all of a sudden is has 'credibiltiy' as a song.
@Nickcat5 well most of us dont know these songs because they aren't been publicised out there so if anything those who sample them keep the song alive!
@Adjei88 R U Serious? Do you really believe they, the sampling artists, 'keep these songs alive'. It is not even remotely their intention to do so. I ,along with many other jocks, will play more Billy Stewert songs in a month than these 'samplings' will do in a year. & That goes for alot of other tunes & artists. You want to learn something,Do some research,. There's nothing wrong with covering a tune or to a lesser extent ,'sampling' it.Just don't let it end there.READ up a bit!
@Adjei88 You don't read well.Do you? How do you suppose these artists you favor found out about these tunes they sample?? RESEARCH!!!! And who do you think was really keeping these tunes alive?? I'll tell you,the DJ's on certain radio stations, not the artists you favor. We ,as I said before PLAY MORE of these tunes that the artists could possible produce. Now I ask you,Who do you NOW believe keeps them alive?
@Nickcat5 You just have to face the fact that the yong generation today aren't gonna go and RESEARCH old music if it aint being played, they will only be aware of music like this through either their families or through sampling.
@Adjei88 You STILL don't read well,Do you? Me,Myself & I along with countless other jocks throughout this country,PLAY the MUSIC!!! You have obvious tunnel-vison about what you're willing to listen to. Over & OUt!!
You still don't read well,Do you? Me,Myself & I along with countless other jock throughout this country & probably overseas PLAY THE MUSIC.We are in RADIO,Ever heard of it? You have obvious tunnel vision about what you're willing to listen to. Over & Out!!
@Nickcat5 i think what adjei is trying to say is by artists/producers sampling classics it helps spread awareness to todays youth about old artists and singers like billy stewart. And yes you and countless others are keepin it alive by playing the music but that doesn't necessarily mean the youth will be tuning in, They'll be too busy listening to the trendy radio stations and without having heard the sound in the first place how do you expect them to research?
@jvtillinfinity in addition it's normal for producers to research music to add flavor to their sound because that's their job. normally you would not expect a kid listening to soulja boy or lil wayne to research some nat king cole or billie holiday songs.
@jvtillinfinity And unfortunately, I can't tell you how many times I've seen young people turn away with "EEWW,I don't like that!!" As though they just tasted MUD.There was life before the internet & MTV. I used to read liner notes,& I heard songs say ,The Rolling Stones did by Solomon Burke or Otis Redding & it made me curious about these artists,I learned that Otis Redding's tunes extended far beyound 'Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay'. I used to read alot also
@Nickcat5 well this generation is more tech based than yours. Unless it's on the internet, people don't read as much as the last generation. There are also plenty of young people who would jump on these types of songs if given the chance to hear it. Whether it's remixed or sampled, if people hear some version of it, it can make them curious enough to find the orginal version. I'm living proof of this.
@ChromaticEagle Tech based yes, creative NO. You've got the cart in front of the horse. I learned that a great many Rock n Roll tunes from the 50's & 60's were out of the 20's & 30's & not by another artists 'sampling ' them. Cover versions, yes and Mostly alot of reading. And we did have radio's then. When I learned that the Beatles, the Stones,Hendrix & others worshipped,Bo Diddley,Gene Vincent,Chuck Berry Little Richard & Jerry Lee Lewis (& others) I did my own research on these artists.
@Nickcat5 not agreeing with the creativity of this generation's music =/= lack of creativity. I have also learned that a number of songs i listen to are influenced or sampled by/from older songs, mostly through comments or internet searching.
@Adjei88 You don't read well.Do you? How do you suppose these artists you favor found out about these tunes they sample?? RESEARCH!!!! And who do you think was really keeping these tunes alive?? I'll tell you,the DJ's on certain radio stations, not the artists you favor. We ,as I said before PLAY MORE of these tunes than the artists could possible produce. Now I ask you,Who do you NOW believe keeps them alive?
@bankman58 Right you are bankman58!!! I graduated in 1966 and this song...came out shortly after. A REEEEEAL party song. If I was in a bad mood this one...or any by Mr. Stewart....could get me out of it. ummmmm love this.

@claafrica Sampling has gotten lame. What really offends me is not so much the sampling,But the young people who have NO USE for these Great Artists& these Great Tunes until one of their Hero's sample it, Then all of a sudden is has 'credibiltiy' as a song.
Nickcat5 8 months ago
@Nickcat5 well most of us dont know these songs because they aren't been publicised out there so if anything those who sample them keep the song alive!
Adjei88 7 months ago
@Adjei88 R U Serious? Do you really believe they, the sampling artists, 'keep these songs alive'. It is not even remotely their intention to do so. I ,along with many other jocks, will play more Billy Stewert songs in a month than these 'samplings' will do in a year. & That goes for alot of other tunes & artists. You want to learn something,Do some research,. There's nothing wrong with covering a tune or to a lesser extent ,'sampling' it.Just don't let it end there.READ up a bit!
Nickcat5 7 months ago
@Nickcat5 if it wasn't for sampling who in todays generation would have heard of billy stewart, the whatnuts, the sylvers and all these old singers!
Adjei88 7 months ago
@Adjei88 You don't read well.Do you? How do you suppose these artists you favor found out about these tunes they sample?? RESEARCH!!!! And who do you think was really keeping these tunes alive?? I'll tell you,the DJ's on certain radio stations, not the artists you favor. We ,as I said before PLAY MORE of these tunes that the artists could possible produce. Now I ask you,Who do you NOW believe keeps them alive?
Nickcat5 7 months ago
@Nickcat5 You just have to face the fact that the yong generation today aren't gonna go and RESEARCH old music if it aint being played, they will only be aware of music like this through either their families or through sampling.
Adjei88 7 months ago

And yes you and countless others are keepin it alive by playing the music but that doesn't necessarily mean the youth will be tuning in, They'll be too busy listening to the trendy radio stations and without having heard the sound in the first place how do you expect them to research?
jvtillinfinity 7 months ago
@jvtillinfinity in addition it's normal for producers to research music to add flavor to their sound because that's their job. normally you would not expect a kid listening to soulja boy or lil wayne to research some nat king cole or billie holiday songs.
jvtillinfinity 7 months ago
@jvtillinfinity A point I've been trying to make along with the I've made earlier/ Thank-You for your input!
Nickcat5 7 months ago
@jvtillinfinity And unfortunately, I can't tell you how many times I've seen young people turn away with "EEWW,I don't like that!!" As though they just tasted MUD.There was life before the internet & MTV. I used to read liner notes,& I heard songs say ,The Rolling Stones did by Solomon Burke or Otis Redding & it made me curious about these artists,I learned that Otis Redding's tunes extended far beyound 'Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay'. I used to read alot also
Nickcat5 7 months ago
@Nickcat5 well this generation is more tech based than yours. Unless it's on the internet, people don't read as much as the last generation. There are also plenty of young people who would jump on these types of songs if given the chance to hear it. Whether it's remixed or sampled, if people hear some version of it, it can make them curious enough to find the orginal version. I'm living proof of this.
ChromaticEagle 7 months ago
@ChromaticEagle Tech based yes, creative NO. You've got the cart in front of the horse. I learned that a great many Rock n Roll tunes from the 50's & 60's were out of the 20's & 30's & not by another artists 'sampling ' them. Cover versions, yes and Mostly alot of reading. And we did have radio's then. When I learned that the Beatles, the Stones,Hendrix & others worshipped,Bo Diddley,Gene Vincent,Chuck Berry Little Richard & Jerry Lee Lewis (& others) I did my own research on these artists.
Nickcat5 7 months ago
@Nickcat5 not agreeing with the creativity of this generation's music =/= lack of creativity. I have also learned that a number of songs i listen to are influenced or sampled by/from older songs, mostly through comments or internet searching.

@claafrica It's not all that creative anymore either. The term was made up in an attmpet to avoid paying royalties for the creative efforts of many.

Great song here. Just Blaze didnt even sample the best parts of it. The beat he made was still real tight though...Again, this is a great song.
