@MsAnnaAlmond Stop it. I love Elvis, but he could NEVER dance like MJ. Neither could JB, and he was a MUCH better dancer than Elvis. Elvis could sing better than both of them.
They were not the same. Elvis's music sounded, well, 'blacker' than MJ's. Michael was more of a polished product than EP was. Elvis was less of the seasoned pro. More of a from-the-heart type. Long Live The Kings--of Rock & Roll and Pop, respectively.
@slimmsayton Of course MJ was better dancer after all, because he was training and had talent, sure. But I mean Elvis was FIRST and NATURAL and he was an inspiration for MJ and I don't like when teenagers think that all those steps and behaviour were just MJ ideas. And Elvis wasn't focused on development of technique of dance but was cool anyway and I like it.
Elvis was the one who brought that brand of music to the spotlight, It took Elvis to do that, Bill Hayley kinda got the ball rolling, but it was Elvis that took it and slam duncked it!!! There has been no one since that has done what Elvis did. And Elvis was just being himself, mixing together all he was influeneced by, and singin his heart out!!! Elvis was the wake up call everyone was waiting for!!!!
@HipHop226: You are absolutely WRONG!!! The song "hound dog" was written by two white guys by the names of Leiber & Stoller! Its was actually big mama thornton who recorded a white composition composed by 2 white guys! You cant fight the facts! As far as elvis moves are concerned, show me ONE piece of footage prior to elvis which shows the moves elvis did! U wont find it, because elvis made his own style, sure he was influenced by blacks, but elvis was never a copy or an imitation!
@SupernaturalXtreme You're dead on. Elvis would tell anyone who would listen that Rock n Roll was nothing but rhythm and blues. He made what he considered good music. I agree he wasn't corporate, but the fact that he was a handsome white kid who sounded black was part of how he was packaged, and it worked. They started out playing his records with the 'race records', and gained a black audience. Then, when the brought him out publicly, his show and look changed the world. EP ROCKED!
I always think to myself what kind of Elvis fan I would've been if I had been fortunate enough to be alive back then. Would I have been the kind that weeps uncontrollably, screams erratically, or just sits there staring at him, speechless? I guess I'll never know...
Im' a very big Elvis fan, I have seen him several times in concert, and when I hear some people now saying wooow Justin Beeper or woooww Lady Gaga, then I say to myself "Ooooh goozze they don't know what they are talking about, they don't have a clue about good music". Elvis is more than 30 years dead and still he inspires a lot of people, even who has never seen Elvis alive. And that's great and make me so proud to be an Elvis fan. ELVIS FOREVER AND EVER!!!
@willpn100 "Elvis Fans do not know anybody"? Are you referring to John Lennon, Bruce Springstein, Buckingham, Don Mclean, etc., etc, etc.; all of whom were fans & inspired by him? Btw, telling people to read books to try & prove you're right to denegrate a person is crazy. When he died there were many many people who tried to make money off him by selling books to tear him down & build up others.Nobody needs to read a book to know whose music they loved and who insprired them.
@michaelfr613 Elvis fans do not know anybody that came before him, for instance: Bill Haley. Elvis was a big fan of Vaughn De Leaf who sang "Are You Lonesome Tonight?" in 1927. Buckinghham, WHO? Bruce Springsteen WHO? . Those persons you are referring to are not creators, but Joh Lennon. John Lennon sang "Be Bop A Lula, a great success of Gene Vincent and with the Beatles he recorded "Rock and Roll Music"; "Roll Over Beethoven"; "Long Tall Sally"; "Honey Don´t".
@willpn100 John Lennon "Before Elvis, there was NOTHING". Don't be so arrogant. You think that if someone appreciates Elvis' contribution he doesn't know music history? Long before Haley, there were MUCH more influential musicians (Benny Goodman's swing, Gene Krupa, Muddy Waters' blues, etc.). All were pivotal in the evolution to rock, much more so than Haley, who had a handful of hits, many of which covers. The best thing about his music was the guitar leads, which can't be credited to him.
@michaelfr613 Let me tell you a phrase you don´t know about the same John Lennon you are referring to:
- "I had no idea about doing music as a way of life until rock and roll hit me. What specifically hit me? It was ROCK AROUND THE CLOCK" - John Lennon.
All depends on how the question is asked!
While you deny "The Godfather of Rock and Roll" you´ll be also denying the tidal wave of rock and roll artists that followed: Elvis is one of them.
@michaelfr613 I do not want to prove that I´m right. If you want to know more about "rock and roll" music these books are useful. If you don´t want to read them, that´s your problem!. We better end this discussion here. I said all I had to. Now, I want to talk with Haley´s; LIttle Richard´s; Chuck Berry´s; Gene Vincent´s; Bo Diddley´s and Eddie Cochran´s fans. They´re expecting for me!
What can I say. If you think that Little Richard was the best vocalist in Rock (I do agree that he was great, but his range was very very very limited & repetitive) & you think that Chuck Berry was the best Guitarist, it's as if time stopped after 1956 for you. Every 10 yr old learning guitar plays Berry's rifs. Nothing sophisticated. Very standard. With all due respect to Berry, whose contribution was important, he's not in the same league as Page, Hendrix, VanHalen, etc.
@michaelfr613 There are no sophistications in terms of rock music but Chuck´s specialisation have been reached and the phenomenon has continued to spread ever since. Elvis can´t compete with Chuck Berry´s guitar force. Of course Berry isn´t in the same league as Page and others just because Berry´s technique is "riff" while the other ones is "solo". Do you like "rock and roll" cos talking negatively about Chuck Berry and Little Richard or Bill Haley you must be desperate!
For your info, the first song recorded by The Rolling Stones was Chuck Berry´s hit "Come On". They also recorded "Carol" and "Little Queenie". The Beatles (the greatest musical phenomenon) recorded "Rock and Roll Music" and "Roll Over Beethoven". Need more contribution? Do not underestimate his contribution!. What´s the contribution of Elvis on those bands works? I do not know any contribution!
@willpn100 The reason why those bands didn't do covers of Elvis is for one simple reason; you can't improve perfection. Can you fathom Jagger singing Heartbreak Hotel or trying to copy the echo on a remake of the Sun recordings? It would be laughable. They Quarrymen (Beatles), early Stones, etc. all initially dressed like Elvis impersonators, but they couldn't sing like him. Regarding "talking negatively" you know I also complimented them all. You're the one denegrating Elvis all over Youtube.
@michaelfr613 I do not denegrate Elvis. I only give facts that no questions of mine was answered!. First you denegrate Chuck Berry, Little Richard and Bill Haley, then you say you also complimented them all? Are you ok?
@willpn100 It is before everyone to see that I said Little was great (but of limited range & repetitive). I said that Berry's contribution was important, but that he wasn't in the same league as Page, Hendrix, Van Halen, etc. I acknowledged Haley as a founding father of Rock, but noted his repetoire was too narrow to be compared with Elvis. You sir, only denegrate, someone who without question, was the most influential figure in R&R.
@michaelfr613 That´s your opinion, not mine!. Let´s end this discussion. I said all I had and you did the same. Will you please, read the following books
1) "The Money Behind The Music"?
2) "Rock Around the Clcok" - The Record that Started the Rock Revolution.
hey,i can't watch or listen to anything else out there...ii's like a step down .but ELVIS is not dead, everybody carries a little piece of him in there hearts!!!!
Awesome footage here. Would be willing to bet that Elvis, with his self-taught guitar, has inspired more musicians than any soulless shredder ever could.
@SShinX2off Because the 50's was a very uptight time. All the young kids had was old guys like Sinatra, so they were ready to let go, and let go they did as brought out all their hidden passions and things would never be the same again. We loved the 50's girls they were not afraid to show emotion.
at :48 and :57 a brief glimpse of Gladys Presley, Elvis's mother. She was only in her mid 40s here but already was looking ill and she died less than a year after this. Elvis never did really recover fully from her early death.
Cause that guy was like freedom for the girls, he was kinda revolution. Was the first guy dirty dancing in public. It where the 50s man. You could listen and dance to what u would. A lot of parents called the police because they not wanted to be their children like him. That was a time parents had their children under control.
What you see is history being made. No singer ever got up and shook and gyrated the way Elvis did. Notice the audience reaction. They are practically on the verge of rioting. He was rock-n-rolls first rock star. They'll never be another one like him. He was and is THE KING OF ROCK-N-ROLL.
Never have I seen such charisma and energy out of an artisin my life. Nor the extotionate amount of frenzied women, no artist has, or ever will top that, it is just not possible to better what Elvis Presley accomplished. Elvis was and remains a true legacy, the amount of energy and magnetism he generated in his performances all through his life, was just phenominal. Rest In Peace, and live on in our hearts forever-Elvis Presley.
Wow it's true. Scotty Moore said that back in those days he couldn't hear himself play because of all the screaming. This clip is evidence of that, even the recording equipment had a hard time picking that all up.
@pills2103 Well done, that might be because it's from 1956, sound quality wasn't exactly the best back then you know. Also the fact that there are an extortinate amount of screaming women present, you ejit.
@loverofmusic702 because i's the feeling and energy that makes u move. for example if you win a lottary, or a project u made is a winner, u cry because of the joy and excitement. that's what elvis did and still does to us,to fans. When I hear him or see him on tv, dvd etc. the charisma and movements, voice makes you feel, u are in a special place not on earth and that thing makes you VERY VERY HAPPY. like alcohol, drug you may call it. ELV1S started the whole thing.
Great job of mixing the 1956 live version into the classic 1957 footage. I never really noticed that Elvis points his finger, a la Hound Dog, in this well-known clip.
@Smilinghippy100 Don't think Eminem is in the same standings as Elvis and Michael.. Bob Marley is great, but not worthy of the same legue as Elvis and Michael, either..
To all you Elvis fans, this is the king at his best and this is what shook the world and Rock 'n' Roll was born.....Long live the King............and for all those who ever douted Elvis, here is is simple message...................Look, Listen and Learn.....This is the King !!!
@willpn100 The so called flounce as you say, came from Elvis feeling and moving to the music. He was totally Unique and that's what people in the 50's couldn't understand. But as the world of music soon realised, that the King of Rock n Roll was born.
Try watching a few more old videos, you may like what you see ?
@TCBEAP1 He copied it from the black artists. Every artist is unique. So that the king of cover versions was born. For instance, will you please watch videos like: The Treniers and Jerry Lewis where they dance to "Rocking Is Our Business". or Abe Lyman Milenberg Joys 1932 or Earl "Snake Hips" Tucker and his eccentric dance act?
@ITILII No, you´ve made a mistake. Bill Haley was the "First Rock and Roll Star", so that if there is someone who invented and popularized it all over the world was Bill Haley. Elvis never toured world and never shared stage with other rockers!
@willpn100 Col Tom woudlnt let Elvis tour worldwide. Billy Haley had a couple good hits, but NO ONE holds a candle to the man who is responsible for making rock and roll popular all over the world, with the most powerful and versatile voice, its greatest performer, and most influential figure....ELVIS....period
@ITILII No, you´re wrong!. Little Richard has the most powerful and bombastic vocal of rock and roll. He´s the wildest of them all. The most outrageous perfomer too. Bill Haley opened the ways and he deserves this merit. Elvis is at the bottom of the list because he is not considered an inventor. As I said before, he is just the top model of rock.
@willpn100 Haley had only 2-3 songs of note. Elvis had over 711 master recordings,36 #1s(US/UK)sang rockabilly, blues, gospel, rock, balads, won 3 Grammys, was nominated for 14. Was recognized by Sam Philips- Sun Records as the originator of Rockabilly'53. Morever he was acknowledged by most icons of Rock as their inspiration:John Lennon ("Before Elvis there was nothing"), Bruce, Knopfler, Buckingham, etc.Not too bad for a "model". Richard's range was too narrow to be compared in terms of talent.
@michaelfr613 Like I said before, Elvis and Michael Jackson were created just for selling records. Sam Philips once said: Elvis had no good vocal effects. Bill Haley "Thr Godfather of Rock and Roll" was the first white artist to record the hit "Rocket 88", in 1951 and became the first "rock-a-billy" song. Moreover he also recorded "jazz", "blues", "ballads" and 'country-western' songs. The smash hit "Rock Around the Clock" is the best selling rock single of all times.
@willpn100 Bill Haley was the first rocker to tour all over the world. In 1956, B.Haley and The Comets recorded "Rock and Roll Stage Show", the first "concept album" of rock history. The smash hit "Rock Around the Clock put "rock and roll" on the screen and on the world map. Bill Haley was cover of "Down Beat Magazine", the bible of jazz. The smash hit "See You Later Alligator, by Bill Haley launched the basis of "American Grafitti". What´s left for Elvis, become an icon not an artist!.
@willpn100 I don't deny Haley's historical contribution to modern music. But 2 or 3 successful songs in one genre does not merit the title "artist". However, being able to span multiple genres (rockabilly, blues, gospel, rock, ballads, being nominated for 14 Grammy's), as Elvis did, attests to a true artist. You can credit Haley for being a founding father, but the one who truly inspired Rock's legends, brought it to masses on an unprecedented scales was Elvis. Give credit where credit is due.
@michaelfr613 Haley is beyond than anyother rocker in the beginning of rock and roll. LRichard has the most powerful vocal in terms of "rock and roll" and he is a great influence on "heavy metal" and "punk" bands, on the other hand, Elvis vocal isn´t an influence for those bands. In "rock and roll", we can look forward to a real change in the guitar paradigm, an his name is C.Berry. "Rock and Roll" is:
- guitar plus vocal at full volume. Elvis was not a guitarist and his vocal was too weak.
@michaelfr613 Elvis had more hits because he sang "ballads" such as: "Love me Tender"; "I was the One"; that were more acceptable for the "puritan" America. Bill Haley had smash hits singing "rock and roll" songs such as: "Rock Around The Clock"; "See You Later Alligator"; "Shake, Rattle and Roll"; "Corrine, Corrina"; "Rock-a-Beating Boogie" and many others causing all riots at his rock concerts. Bill Haley brought rock and roll to masses. Elvis only continued Bill´s initiaion.
@willpn100 Implying that Haley had better vocals than Elvis is absurd. Anyone who has musical training knows that Elvis had a much larger vocal range& power than Haley. You keep regurgitating the names of the same half a dozen songs. If I started to list Elvis' it take up pages. Haley's COVER version of Joe Turner's Shake Rattle & Roll was just a sanitized version. Corina, Corina goes back to 1928 with many artists predating Haley. You make it sound like he was the orignator of these songs.
@michaelfr613 I´ve never said that Haley had better vocal than Elvis. Haley like a musician is better than Elvis. Elvis art is rotate his Pelvis. The best vocalist in terms of "rock and roll" is Little Richard. The best guitarrists are Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley. Haley did "Corrine, Corrina" in a rock and roll style. The 1928´s versions was not "rock and roll". Haley´s creation are: Crzy Man Crazy, Rock-a-Beatong Boogie"; Skinnie Minnie; Lean Jean; Two Hound Dogs; Oriental Rock; and many others.
Richard's range was too narrow to be compared in terms of talent.
@michaelfr613 Sam Philips once said: Elvis had no goog vocal effects. Elvis may be the originator of "rock-a-billy at "Sun Records" but on "Essex Bill Haley did the first rock-a-billy "Rocket 88", in 1951, when Elvis was a spoilt child yet! . Moreover, in 1953, Bill Haley recorded the hit "Crazy Man Crazy" the first "rock-a-billy" song to pop the charts.
@michaelfr613 Michael Jackson; Madonna; Lady Gaga; Beyonce; Rick Martin; Menudos; Shakira are not artists. Like I said before, they were created just for S E L L I N G R E C O R D S. They are also mass phenomenon. They are all icons not artists!. Can´t you see what I mean?
He was "vicious" to quote Eddie Murphy.

The Beatles (the greatest musical phenomenon) recorded "Rock and Roll Music" and "Roll Over Beethoven". Need more contribution? Do not underestimate his contribution!. What´s the contribution of Elvis on those bands works? I do not know any contribution!
willpn100 9 months ago
@willpn100 The reason why those bands didn't do covers of Elvis is for one simple reason; you can't improve perfection. Can you fathom Jagger singing Heartbreak Hotel or trying to copy the echo on a remake of the Sun recordings? It would be laughable. They Quarrymen (Beatles), early Stones, etc. all initially dressed like Elvis impersonators, but they couldn't sing like him. Regarding "talking negatively" you know I also complimented them all. You're the one denegrating Elvis all over Youtube.
michaelfr613 9 months ago
@michaelfr613 I do not denegrate Elvis. I only give facts that no questions of mine was answered!. First you denegrate Chuck Berry, Little Richard and Bill Haley, then you say you also complimented them all? Are you ok?
willpn100 9 months ago
@willpn100 It is before everyone to see that I said Little was great (but of limited range & repetitive). I said that Berry's contribution was important, but that he wasn't in the same league as Page, Hendrix, Van Halen, etc. I acknowledged Haley as a founding father of Rock, but noted his repetoire was too narrow to be compared with Elvis. You sir, only denegrate, someone who without question, was the most influential figure in R&R.
michaelfr613 9 months ago
@michaelfr613 That´s your opinion, not mine!. Let´s end this discussion. I said all I had and you did the same. Will you please, read the following books
1) "The Money Behind The Music"?
2) "Rock Around the Clcok" - The Record that Started the Rock Revolution.
3) Little Richard - "Lifetime"

@SShinX2off Because the 50's was a very uptight time. All the young kids had was old guys like Sinatra, so they were ready to let go, and let go they did as brought out all their hidden passions and things would never be the same again. We loved the 50's girls they were not afraid to show emotion.

@TCBEAP1 You mean the king of the flounce. Nothing else.
willpn100 11 months ago
@willpn100 The so called flounce as you say, came from Elvis feeling and moving to the music. He was totally Unique and that's what people in the 50's couldn't understand. But as the world of music soon realised, that the King of Rock n Roll was born.
Try watching a few more old videos, you may like what you see ?
TCBEAP1 11 months ago
@TCBEAP1 He copied it from the black artists. Every artist is unique. So that the king of cover versions was born. For instance, will you please watch videos like: The Treniers and Jerry Lewis where they dance to "Rocking Is Our Business". or Abe Lyman Milenberg Joys 1932 or Earl "Snake Hips" Tucker and his eccentric dance act?
willpn100 11 months ago
@willpn100 Elvis MADE rock and roll. he popularized it and turned it into the success it has become. No Elvis - no rock and roll - John Lennon
ITILII 9 months ago
@ITILII No, you´ve made a mistake. Bill Haley was the "First Rock and Roll Star", so that if there is someone who invented and popularized it all over the world was Bill Haley. Elvis never toured world and never shared stage with other rockers!
willpn100 9 months ago
@willpn100 Col Tom woudlnt let Elvis tour worldwide. Billy Haley had a couple good hits, but NO ONE holds a candle to the man who is responsible for making rock and roll popular all over the world, with the most powerful and versatile voice, its greatest performer, and most influential figure....ELVIS....period
ITILII 9 months ago
@ITILII No, you´re wrong!. Little Richard has the most powerful and bombastic vocal of rock and roll. He´s the wildest of them all. The most outrageous perfomer too. Bill Haley opened the ways and he deserves this merit. Elvis is at the bottom of the list because he is not considered an inventor. As I said before, he is just the top model of rock.
willpn100 9 months ago
@willpn100 Haley had only 2-3 songs of note. Elvis had over 711 master recordings,36 #1s(US/UK)sang rockabilly, blues, gospel, rock, balads, won 3 Grammys, was nominated for 14. Was recognized by Sam Philips- Sun Records as the originator of Rockabilly'53. Morever he was acknowledged by most icons of Rock as their inspiration:John Lennon ("Before Elvis there was nothing"), Bruce, Knopfler, Buckingham, etc.Not too bad for a "model". Richard's range was too narrow to be compared in terms of talent.
michaelfr613 9 months ago
@michaelfr613 Like I said before, Elvis and Michael Jackson were created just for selling records. Sam Philips once said: Elvis had no good vocal effects. Bill Haley "Thr Godfather of Rock and Roll" was the first white artist to record the hit "Rocket 88", in 1951 and became the first "rock-a-billy" song. Moreover he also recorded "jazz", "blues", "ballads" and 'country-western' songs. The smash hit "Rock Around the Clock" is the best selling rock single of all times.
willpn100 9 months ago
@willpn100 Bill Haley was the first rocker to tour all over the world. In 1956, B.Haley and The Comets recorded "Rock and Roll Stage Show", the first "concept album" of rock history. The smash hit "Rock Around the Clock put "rock and roll" on the screen and on the world map. Bill Haley was cover of "Down Beat Magazine", the bible of jazz. The smash hit "See You Later Alligator, by Bill Haley launched the basis of "American Grafitti". What´s left for Elvis, become an icon not an artist!.
willpn100 9 months ago
@willpn100 I don't deny Haley's historical contribution to modern music. But 2 or 3 successful songs in one genre does not merit the title "artist". However, being able to span multiple genres (rockabilly, blues, gospel, rock, ballads, being nominated for 14 Grammy's), as Elvis did, attests to a true artist. You can credit Haley for being a founding father, but the one who truly inspired Rock's legends, brought it to masses on an unprecedented scales was Elvis. Give credit where credit is due.
michaelfr613 9 months ago
@michaelfr613 Haley is beyond than anyother rocker in the beginning of rock and roll. LRichard has the most powerful vocal in terms of "rock and roll" and he is a great influence on "heavy metal" and "punk" bands, on the other hand, Elvis vocal isn´t an influence for those bands. In "rock and roll", we can look forward to a real change in the guitar paradigm, an his name is C.Berry. "Rock and Roll" is:
- guitar plus vocal at full volume. Elvis was not a guitarist and his vocal was too weak.
willpn100 9 months ago
@michaelfr613 Elvis had more hits because he sang "ballads" such as: "Love me Tender"; "I was the One"; that were more acceptable for the "puritan" America. Bill Haley had smash hits singing "rock and roll" songs such as: "Rock Around The Clock"; "See You Later Alligator"; "Shake, Rattle and Roll"; "Corrine, Corrina"; "Rock-a-Beating Boogie" and many others causing all riots at his rock concerts. Bill Haley brought rock and roll to masses. Elvis only continued Bill´s initiaion.
willpn100 9 months ago
@willpn100 Implying that Haley had better vocals than Elvis is absurd. Anyone who has musical training knows that Elvis had a much larger vocal range& power than Haley. You keep regurgitating the names of the same half a dozen songs. If I started to list Elvis' it take up pages. Haley's COVER version of Joe Turner's Shake Rattle & Roll was just a sanitized version. Corina, Corina goes back to 1928 with many artists predating Haley. You make it sound like he was the orignator of these songs.
michaelfr613 9 months ago
@michaelfr613 I´ve never said that Haley had better vocal than Elvis. Haley like a musician is better than Elvis. Elvis art is rotate his Pelvis. The best vocalist in terms of "rock and roll" is Little Richard. The best guitarrists are Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley. Haley did "Corrine, Corrina" in a rock and roll style. The 1928´s versions was not "rock and roll". Haley´s creation are: Crzy Man Crazy, Rock-a-Beatong Boogie"; Skinnie Minnie; Lean Jean; Two Hound Dogs; Oriental Rock; and many others.
willpn100 9 months ago

@michaelfr613 Sam Philips once said: Elvis had no goog vocal effects. Elvis may be the originator of "rock-a-billy at "Sun Records" but on "Essex Bill Haley did the first rock-a-billy "Rocket 88", in 1951, when Elvis was a spoilt child yet! . Moreover, in 1953, Bill Haley recorded the hit "Crazy Man Crazy" the first "rock-a-billy" song to pop the charts.
