you are correct in stating that it is 7.62x39mm (i think its x39) but i think cheezit was trying to say that the reverberation of the sound off the walls would make it sound more like a .50 caliber. and surprisingly. ive shot or stood next to everything from m249 to 155mm howitzers and they are not as loud as made out to be (no plugs)

Wow I must have been very tired when I wrote that. Anyway. No your wrong lol. Well when I was trained on the 240-B and the M246 we were instructed to fire a controlled burst that lasted from 3-5 seconds. "Die mother fucker, Die mother fucker" You should fire as long and it takes you to say that. The firing technique described in the TM says to fire and then strafe the target not point and fire three rounds at the target. Anyone in the military will tell you this..He needs to hold it longer.

That's just ridiculous the inaccuracy and needless waste of ammunition would be mind boggling.

If I were an enemy and had a gunner (not that a 5.56 weapon is really a gun!) shooting like that at me with a Minimi from 100 yards I would be happy to stand my ground while taking a shot at you.

I don't know if that was part of your section/squad protocol in attempting to distract the enemy while your riflemen hit the target but in reality any hits on the target you had would be sheer luck.

in the British Army with the GPMG (M240) we are taught 3-5 seconds infantry in open , 20 seconds soft skinned vehicles

that's strange. in US military doctrine, (im clueless on British doctrine so please correct my mistakes) we are taught with the m2 to shoot 1-2 second bursts. with the m249 2-3 second bursts and the m240 2-4 second bursts. this applies no matter the platform or target, i wounder why the British military they do that, 20 seconds to soft skin

I am guessing mainly because we dont have the high volume of M2 Brownings as yourselves , so wehave to give higher rate of fire for the same desired effect. Just a guess mind :)
