  • if i take one more drinkkkk .. im'a end up f****n youuuu !

  • Thumbs up if Cholera Ninja's Suckphite video brought you here.

  • que de souvenirs!

  • Cholera Ninja.

  • @PlatinumGroovesRadio OMG...lol....Now I'm laughing so hard...lol....didn't think I'd get a response on this one...lol....that's definitely the cut though...lol

  • lol...this was always the cut...at the age of 7, my crazy self used to sing "Take that tooga back"...like I knew what was happening....lol....This is STILL the cut...Love Shalamar....Gerald Brown could blow.

  • Howard Hewitt was NOT with Shalimar when they did this song!

  • yup this is the jam right here....shalamar all day

  • This was the jon't - about 1978 or so - the first Shalamar cut that I remember - I instantly fell in love with this group!

  • @shalamarman your pride and arrogance shows the fans exactly why you never received that call and missed your window of opportunity. The way you went in on the person commenting, trying to analyze his life, for giving you good advice is just childish! He took the high road I'm not!

  • One of the best disco bands that was around....Check out our own 70's disco band "FREAK OUT Disco Band"....our mission is simple to keep 70's disco alive and carry on delivering great arrangements of the classics.....check out ......freakoutdiscoband.co.uk There is a link to Facebook and under "band profile" you can download the tracks....Enjoy and "Like Us"....Thanks!

  • Great song that has stood the test of time :-)

And you can take that to the bank !!!

  • A Classic Disco tune.

  • Loooooove! This Tune!

  • Hewitt's lipsync and Mumford's picture on the cover here were just some of the tactics used to hide the facts . Solar Records had no agreement to release the product containing the voice of Gerald Brown . Therefore ; the use of his picture would also be illegal True Shalamar fans knew the truth .

  • @Shalamarman What are you talking about lip sync? Do you even recognize hewitt's voice?

  • classic!

  • and get a whopping 1% interest.

  • dear lord who produced for them... every shalamar song i'm listening to on youtube is smooth as fuck

  • @trancearmstrong i feel u

  • hands down the best sounding band in the history of the world

  • ludacris sampled this for "one more drink" but icant tell

  • I heard MJ sampled this for "someone put your hand out". but i cant hear where he sampled it!

  • Jr. High School Days.

  • SHALAMAR WIT FINE A-S JODIE WHATELY N SHE CLD SING EAT UR HEART OUT BEYONCE!!!!!1

  • this song is just riddled all over with metaphors! makes banking seem all more exciting :)

  • LOVE ME SOME SHALAMAR. This groove takes me back to 1979. From that time forward, I was a Shalamar fan.

  • produced by niles rodgers and bernard edwards of chic

  • @nicklong1981 U're crazy! It's produced by Dick Griffey and Leon Sylvers! I've got this single right here!

  • @Elisabeth1903 you must a misprint cuz niles and nard did this you can hear that chic sound all over it

  • @nicklong1981 Nile and Nard sound totally different! U're wrong. I'm sorry!

  • @nicklong1981 Something may seem so, but doesn't have to be!!

  • @Elisabeth1903 I am so so sorry it was produced by Dick Griffey and Leo Sylvers please accept my apology

  • @nicklong1981 I admire you that you dare to admit!! I accept your apology!

  • My,my.....if there were such a thing as a time-machine...

  • Today is my payday. Taking it to the bank...booyah!

  • Hmmmm . A single (of mine) recorded after my Soul Train Gang/Shalamar days sold on E-bay for $83.00 . I don't know who sold the copy of " Good Morning Sun" . But , I have about fifty more . LOL . It makes me wonder . Should , I put the Shalamar/Soul Train Gang wardrobe pm E-Bay ? I can still fit it . But , it's not like I'm ever gonna wear it again . What do you guys think . Should I sell it . One of the STG Jackets cost $800.00 in 1978 . It's just like Morris Day's Purple Rain Jacket . Hmmm .

  • @Shalamarman Is there a /funk/disco museum anywhere? They would make a great exhibit

  • @Shalamarman WOW. This is the best thing about Youtube, a chance to interact with legends. Mr. Brown a lot of us grew up with your music, and we still play them. Thanks

  • I have this outfit hanging in my closet with the other "SOUL TRAIN GANG " outfits . " Shalamar " borrowed them from us for this picture . Just another indication of how they were treated at Solar Records . Their treatment was one of the reasons I hesitated joining and one of the reasons I left . My biggest regret was leaving Jeffrey and Jody to the wolves . For that I apologize . I hope one day Jeffrey will forgive me . Jody has . But , judging from the Unsung interview . Jeffrey hasn't .

  • @Shalamarman Man all that's water under the bridge! Whether Jeffrey Daniels "forgives" you or not, is irrelevant. It's been what, 30 years? Just forget about it and move on...

  • @Shalamarman I'm very sorry, it was not my intention to judge or offend.. Again, I'm very sorry. I will keep future comments to myself..

  • Comment removed

  • @fisherlove11320q If , this is all ancient history . Why is your comment only two days old ? Why are you looking at a thirty year old video . Who asked your opinion ? (Whether anything is relevant ) Maybe . You're trying to use this to bring some relevancy to your own life . Maybe . You should move on !!! You might find some business of your own to mind .

  • Dick Griffey RIP

  • Love this song i cant believe i only recently found out Shalamar sing it.

  • scrumptious

  • Well, this is how I feel today.....Take it that to the bank!

  • This was my shit...the early morning school bus rides to Highland Ave. School #10 in Linden, NJ...I had the tape cassette recorder/player bumpin'!!! Damn...whatever happen to this flava of music???

  • @meechamaka411 I know...RIGHT! lol

  • fantastici un tuffo nel passato........un tuffo al cuore

  • what year this song came out? 76-77?

  • FIRE!

  • I was listening to this song at work with my headphones on....resisting the urge to throw down the plastic footprints on the floor and JAM!

  • OMGWTF? Beyonce is brillant? Yeah Brilliant for hooking up with Jay Z. Mariah was rehab skidding, she hooked up with Nick. In a time when things were stingy for non rock artist on MTV Jody held the record for the most Award nominees, that was broken by MJackson and JJackson when they made a video together. It took 2 Jacksons together, to break Jody's record. ALSO! Jody's "Friends" was noted as first R&B song to have Rap incorporated. And by who you ask? Eric B and Rakim. And Jody is 1 of 3 here.

  • Howard was always billed as the lead singer but now that the years have passed, I can not beleive how important Jody's voice was to the group. It is her voice that I remember the most. It would not be Shalamar with out her.

  • @corso02860 In this case (debut album) there's no Jody Whatley and Howard Hewitt. They came later. Some Gerald Albright was in the group. I forgot the name of the female singer.

  • @Elisabeth1903

This isJody Whatley. She's always been in thegroup. Howard Hewitt was the only replacement.

  • ................mmmmmm

  • peace out, son...

  • GETDOWN GETUP MOST TENDER VIBES THANKYOU SHALIMAR,LOVE MARIO

  • Love this song! Still has that special quality that casts a spell...even sweeter with time,Thank you Shalamar, Mario,,,,,,,,,,Funny how time marches on...Memories and new perceptions..

  • I'm getting a Chrysler Cordoba and I'm gonna jam to this with the windows down!

  • sexy boy mj

  • Ludacris sampled this with "One More Drink" and Michael Jackson sampled this with "Someone Put Your Hand Out". Great musical piece .

  • @MJJonasBrownLover ..Really..Mj song is one of my favorite stepper's jam..Dang let me listen to it again..I was sleep on that one!! Lol!!

  • GROOOOOOVE........a piece of heaven...I can still feel a part of me then! Man , time goes on , but we bring all that joy forever. Thank you Shalamar ...Your music is in my soul bank! Peace and love forever,Mario [fellow musician and groovester]

  • take out my bell bottoms and hit the disco floor o yea grow the afro

  • A true classic

  • account summary....

  • soooooooooooooooo cooooooollll. my youth in one tune.

  • I remember this song and the Loop Roller Disco Chicago great days

  • i love itt

  • Did you see the unsung special on Shalamar on TV1! It was really good!

  • This is such a brilliant song. Ahead of it's time.

  • Brilliant song!!!

  • Wow! Someone talking about Empire in Brooklyn. That's what's up.

  • I put my headphones on and turned up the volume. Dammmm, they jammed out so hard on this track, I forgot where I was. Not often can I do that. Get lost in music!! Empire Roller Disco, Brooklyn NY, 1977 - 1983 still lives on in my heart. Block parties, and fire hydrant sprinklers in the summer!!! Most of all neighbors that cared and could beat your butt too. Ahhhh, Memories. Still skating in the Carolina's!

  • @Sodampurtie1 LMAO...Empire Roller Rink in Bk...man, those were the dayz. Thanks for taking the memories back...and you are right...from the block parties to gettin into trouble by NYFD for turning on the hydrants to bum rushing the free lunches...ah, summertime in NY...nothing can compare, LOL.

  • @MrPrettyblack7 OMG, most lunches were destroyed by the time ya hit the block. Everybody swapping out what they didn't like. Dammmm, can I get me a nice game of skelly or handball going? Anyone!!!

  • I played a Festival with the Original singer on this track, Gerald Brown....Howard Hewett later replaced him.

  • Great

  • I know it.

  • i have this on 12`inch too great sound` soul city walking

  • this used to wake me up in the morning in the big freeze of 79 courtesy of Capital radio (a London UK radio station). 1st record I bought on 12 inch (still have it) Saw Shalamar in concert in 1982: they were pretty innovative but I still think the lead singer on this was better than Howard Hewitt who replaced him!

  • party baby!

  • Man this song was Black Bubble Gum but I loved it in 1978 and I love it now. It still sounds damn good. And the finance- inspired lyrics are great. Better-written than you realize.

  • Hittin the clubs every weekend... good ole days!

  • I Remembering Doing Disco Dancing With This Song! WOW!

  • Memories.....

  • Ludacris Sampled This Song In His Song "One More Drink" .

  • sometimes i wear that white jumpsuite and platform shoes... step into my gran torino flip off oncoming traffic and have me a car chase all to the sound of shaft...i am the man that would risk his neck for his brother man

  • disco music for ever !

  • Like it, not crazy for it, lot better than most today.

But who cares music today sucks, there is more then enough good stuff already. Bye.

  • @Geert365 I totally agree with you. Im 19 yrs old and I grew up listening to my father playing this music in his car. This music is much more peaceful than today's music artists.

  • Jody has a rare quality called talent. Not to mention beauty. Those almond shaped eyes and cheek bones are just beautiful. Really. All this with a voice like silk makes an exceptional artist under appreciated by todays "singers" Many a lady can take lessons from Ms. Watley. Beyonce are you listening?

  • AMEN!!!

  • @wvanderwahl What do you know about Beyonce your 41 and old...Beyonce is a great singer and a franchise she is worth millions cant say the same about HASBAND Jody Watley. JOdy is an amateur compared to Jody pleasse she aint even that good of a singer are you kidding me LMAO.

  • @Calomante reallY? in 40 years kids wills say they same about beyonce, hapeens to the best of the best get real

watley laid her own blueprint just like those before her did without having to rip off other artist she write her own songs style her own shizz no booty pop to get the biggest hit and so on not to mention the most fierce of all la watley wasn't the lead singer of her group so rare chile please

  • @stilettogroove Beyonce is a franchise she will take over the world she will never be a hasband Jody is not that successfull like Diana Ross or a Tina Turner or Patti Labelle or Aretha so chile please back to you. YOu are dumb Jody is a dried out she looks old and is wack Beyonce is way more talented and can do plenty other things besides booty shake honey.

  • @stilettogroove not to mention they are iconic like Beyonce will be Jody is not iconic shalamar is iconic but not her..so your dumb dont comment anymore.

  • @Calomante Showbusines is constant come and go and NOTHING is forever (Whitney, Mariah, etc). 10 yrs from now, see who breaks out a Beyonce album. They'll still be reaching for Whitney's first, Anita's first & second, etc. Cookie cutters never withstand the test of time...

  • @dholmes974excuse you old motherfucker im 26 not a child and you are not in my generation stay with your old peoples. Beyonce is brilliant unlike crack head whitney who threw her talent away and boring fat anita baker she will always be fit and she is talented gorgeous and smart unlike those two. YOu will see in twenty years when they have network named after Beyonce since you know what you are talking about! You will see if your old ass still is living .lmao!

  • @dholmes974 and as for Mariah my bitch is still fabolous dumbass and is Loaded with cash unlike Jody Hasband Watley.....wake up and come into the new millineum...Grandpa!

  • @stilettogroove Don't get into agruments with children. I know they can be very irritating...LOL

  • @dholmes974 I love gown folks music. It has now become clear to me that though Beyonce is somewaht talented our generation would never put her in the same catergory as say" Teena Marie" or "Patti Labell" because they belong our generation. How about some Earth, Wind and Fire? when hear their music we feel the movement and passion of what they are singing to us. Beyonce, Rahanna, and Ciara I hear their music but do not listen because their music do not move me. then again that's just me.

  • Great Comments...and all are so true

  • this is a fab classic.love it

"Ace" car from Detroit" , we used it alot to go to Fancy dress parties, as the blues brothers..lol Brill times with that Motta..!!.."cheers.. Spike.. the Jock .. (Freedom)

  • it reminds me of being a little kid in the backseat of the buick regal with a grin on my face. i love this song.

  • Classic!

  • Pour that hot chocolate on me, baby.

  • Especially at 2:36...

  • This sounds like Ludacris... "One More Drink."

  • i agree... most music is recycled

Luda most likely stole the basics of this song and made it "his"...

[we all know, however...old school is AMAZING]

  • How does this sound like Luda???!!!

  • This was one of my jams when I was in 10th grade! Excellent posting, thank you.

    Peace

  • oh wow, i remember that song!!

  • Smash!

  • this is true art felt creative art on an album that is felt by human and drawn by the music in the album too back the present day totally lacks the freshness of the human hand

instead of the crap from computers

and you can take that to the bank

  • Except that computers don't create art. Humans use computers to create art. Admittedly, cheap computer graphics really bring a movie down but, overall, such developments are positive for art.

  • Shalamar was the bomb back in the day!

  • What kind of music do you like? It is what it is for many of us, a beat you can dance to! And for some of us so much more, sorry you can't relate.

  • there's that sylvers trademark sound again.leon was a genious just listen to the bass line.often imitated but never duplicated

  • basically the same up, with Kevin Spencer on bass. I believe he co wrote this as well as Ice Breaker for Dynasty

  • @byrd1nypa Kevin Spencer wasn't playing on this song . Leon Sylvers played bass on all our tracks . Kevin is a good musician / songwriter . But , we never used him on any Shalamar tracks . He was ; however , part of Leon's songwriting team . Take care .

  • @Shalamarman Timeless music. I was dancing to this last saturday night in a club in Manchester, England. Btw, the best tunes ever by Shalamar, were, for me, "For the lover in you" and "Over and over". Funnily enough, I preferred the ballads. Then I went on to Howard Hewitt's solo stuff. This is you I guess? Still got the voice.

  • when i hear this song i am back in 1978 and i am 13 again and happy

  • One of the best written disco era songs. Well sung, well produced. Pure class!

  • @siasti: Try Evelyn Champange King's "Shame"

  • This was the JAM!!! Love this song!

  • Love whomever's tickling those ivories!

  • Off the Shalamar Disco Gardens album 1978.

  • Shalamar was a freash new sound another similar sounding group was Dynasty. WhereDIDallTHEreal music go?

  • ...keep savin, keep buidin, add interest to our love...

  • This is my Schilznit! I love shalimar! Then, now and forever..........

  • My earliest memory of Shalamar. Even though Howard Hewitt was not in the group at the time, the sound carried over well when he came aboard. With Mr. Hewitt's talents, the group went on to even greater heights. I appreciate all of the members' contributions.

  • Cool !
