This film looks like it will be a hoot. One thing though: in most streams of Buddhism, there is no compulsion to believe in anything, including God, and there are buddhists who do not. For some this means Buddhism is not a religion. It's certainly not about God per se. It's mainly Tibetan Buddhism that overlays supernatural beings, gods, animism etc on Buddhism and that is only one flavor. A true Buddhist has to find their own way, helped by a set of principles and a philosophy of life.

I feel sorry for this lady. She, as well as many others are so sure there is no God. They don't realize that they will give an account for what they've said against Him. I watched a little bit of this show the other day and must say she distorts the what the bible actually teached to a great degree.
Thinking about what religion does to people makes me so frustrated that I want to cry. I don't understand how someone can follow something so blindly. I thank her so much for doing this show. When I discovered it, I was kind of a self-hating atheist. I'm a 23 year old woman, and I'd had a pretty religious upbringing. (Though not Catholic.) I'd realized that I couldn't believe in god over a year before, but I had trouble coping, and I hated myself for it. But Julia's show made me realize that you can not believe and still be a good person... because she totally is! ;)
This woman's experience is a perfect example of someone who never met God in the first place. All she met was religion, which is the same as Islam, Budhism, or any other satanic religion. This is so sad. Sweeney's mother telling her to keep going to church even if she didn't believe really shows the poor testimonies she had in her upbringing. The "professionals" in Catholicism when it comes to Bible study are actually there to teach you; there's plenty of sources for interpretation, Church documents and so on. Of course, her faith was far beyond that - noone would really quite stop believing just because some parts of the Old Testament seem odd.

As a believer in God, I find the trailer pleasing. My experience is that most Christians really have no idea of what their speaking about nor their critics, too many word and very little understanding. If you watch the show, you'd know her family are not all that reasonable, and not always kind to her. You can't assume that just because you love your family doesn't mean that everyone is fortunate enough to have supportive families. Many "good Christians" have turned their backs on their family members simply because they express differing beliefs. But true Christianity is much deeper than simply attending church or being good. True Christianity is when Christ has revealed himself to you. He doesn't appear before you in the flesh. Thinking about what religion does to people makes me so frustrated that I want to cry. I don't understand how someone can follow something so blindly. The part that drives me up a wall is when christians say that god wrote the bible. God didn't write the bible, humans wrote the bible. And on top of that humans(Men) decided what should go IN the Bible. So its safe to say that the bible is a human interpretation of God and for her to be told not to interpret the bible herself is ludicrous.

I thank her so much for doing this show. When I discovered it, I was kind of a self-hating atheist. I'm a 23 year old woman, and I'd had a pretty religious upbringing. (Though not Catholic.) I'd realized that I couldn't believe in god over a year before, but I had trouble coping, and I hated myself for it. But Julia's show made me realize that you can not believe and still be a good person... because she totally is! ;)

This is so sad. Sweeney's mother telling her to keep going to church even if she didn't believe really shows the poor testimonies she had in her upbringing. The "professionals" in Catholicism when it comes to Bible study are actually there to teach you; there's plenty of sources for interpretation, Church documents and so on. Of course, her faith was far beyond that - noone would really quite stop believing just because some parts of the Old Testament seem odd.

Although this was interesting, There's a lot that Julia Sweeney still does Not understand therefore has to make jokes and make up her own explanations for. As a believer in God, I find the trailer pleasing. My experience is that most Christians really have no idea of what their speaking about nor their critics, too many word and very little understanding. But you bring interesting subjects that should be articulated and be discussed in context. I respect your bravery: to find God one must let go of God and discover ones own views on life. I loved this movie! She makes a lot of valid points. The Old Testament is violent and Christianity in the New Testament is cultish. Other religions have their flaws. Religion is merely an attempt to deal with the inevidability of death. Because I don't know what happens after death, I am an agnostic.

You'd go online with some videos - state your beliefs and policy plans. People either like you or they don't. The mind is formed not only in the brain but in the entire world - you see a flower and now your mind has associations with it - it was not before. Evidence? Observe your world. The evidence is everywhere. The golden ratio for example - repeating patterns throughout nature. Now one could argue that patterns emerge naturally. Well, patterns / order, are what we attribute to be intelligence - chaos, not so much. Pattern recognition is something that makes us better than computers at many tasks. @cruisersmusic No Science is not a religion, it's a physical or mental process whereby you hope to understand the world by presenting reproducible evidence usually based on prior work and peer reviewed. A disproven theory is readily discarded as only the truth as so far perceived is important, not egos not what has been invested in the past. You dont get than in any religion. I know the scientific method. I was a cognitive science major in college. Too often after peer review and acceptance of a scientific finding people become a bit religious about "the facts" found by science. Governments do use scientific findings to control folks. Unfortunately even scientific "facts" are eventually found to be less than entirely factual. Therefore it is important to not have a dogmatic approach to anything. "I know that I don't know anything so I know more than everyone else."

I like the philosophy of fractal evolution - look it up on here. Much is possible - but within the framework of nature patterns. All emerge from prior ones - all the way back (and forward again) to the dot, line, triangle, tetrahedron, opposing tetrahedrons in chaotic spin - forming dimensional vortices. With repetitions within and without itself - as this math is the observable language of reality / "god". The duplication and overlapping thereof give form to that which would otherwise not be.

the whole Moses story depicts a "god' who is jealous, easily irritated, prone to strike down his own people for insubordination and who likes to come down in a cloud and be waited on hand and foot by Aaron and sons while he relaxes in his "tent of meeting" In the end he didn't even allow Moses to enter the promised land. Moses gave "him" 40 years and get's a pink slip in the end

If you watch the show, you'd know her family are not all that reasonable, and not always kind to her. You can't assume that just because you love your family doesn't mean that everyone is fortunate enough to have supportive families. Many "good Christians" have turned their backs on their family members simply because they express differing beliefs. You should step outside of your obvious naivety and learn that the world is not very kind to atheists.

I understand that not everyone has a family like I do, when I heard this I was thinking Family, like husband and kids. Who wouldnt't want to be with there kids. You assume that I mean like Mom, Dad, Uncle, Aunt, SO on. Anyways thats what I ment.

People believe that all chrisians are Gay hating bible beating phyco's and its not true. I dont think Ither would, I would hope that America would have the common sence to know there is a difference between Atheists and Satin Worshipers. I see Atheists attacking christians on TV all the time saying we are stupid for believeing in something that cant be seen. When was the last time an atheist was attacked on tv for not believeing in God?

That was actually my point, that the atheists would get hassled before anyone else. My wife wants to put a bumper sticker for a local atheist org. on the car. Well, I like my tires when they're not slashed, so... I don't want some unstable person deciding that society would look the other way if they assaulted my wife, known atheist. But, put on "support da troops, faggot!" stickers and the villagers would hunt down the perp!
